I'm honestly surprised I haven't written a review about EastWest yet, as they are easily a top 3 restaurant in Bham for me. From the dim lights creating a moody vibe, to the Mr. West cocktail, to the fantastic menu items, this place is a must visit! For COVID purposes, I recommend making a reservation as it is a smaller restaurant. They offer seating at the bar and they also have an event space (with a bar!) located upstairs. I've been here for corporate events, wedding showers, date night, -and girls night and am always pleased with my experience. An added bonus is the specials they run through the week - whiskey and wing Wednesday can't be beat!
I was in Birmingham for the Hurricane Ida evacuation and needed a drink after the long taxing week I had along with many others; so I randomly found EastWest on Google. I was on the hunt for fresh local food to see what Birmingham had to offer. This place was super cool! The decor was fire; the street lanterns were a nice touch. For appetizers the table had char-grilled short ribs, fried cauliflower, and the west wings. The wings were tasty, the short ribs had good flavor, but were maybe a little thin, the cauliflower was my favorite of all the appetizers you'd never know you were eating a vegetable. For the main course I had a Fried Shrimp Tempura Rice Bowl and a Osaka Spritz. I could eat the rice bowl all day everyday, it had great umami the balance of the salty soy sauce and fresh cucumbers were a match made in heaven. The Osaka spritz had good flavor, I love the taste of lychee my only critique is it could've used a bit more alcohol. Overall would recommend. 10/10. Sad they don't have one in New Orleans.
Great experience. All the food was awesome but the wings were the best. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. Highly recommend this place.
Ugh!! I wished I would have learned about this place sooner! The food and drinks are amazing! I did try the jalapeño drink, which I didn’t like, but it was no problem to switch it out! Great hospitality for me and my girls!
I came here with my Husband to celebrate a special occasion and we had a fantastic time! The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. It was "Tapas Tuesday" so they had $5 apps. We got the Kamikaze Tots, Gyoza, Chicken Tostadas and Duck Nachos. (The duck nachos are one of the best food items in town, in my opinion) As or main we got Soft Shell Crab boa buns and Soft Shell Crab Rice Bowl, both delicious. My husband got the East 75 cocktail which he enjoyed. For dessert we split the key lime pie (pictured) Everything was well priced and the service was great! Highly recommend a visit!
Impressed. I'm from Los Angeles and have had some really good Asian fusion, I was very impressed with the quality and freshness. In downtown near bars and other food options. Small menu but makes it easy to choose. :p
Really good food!!! Service was perfect!
I don’t know the name of the male bartender that was “serving” us: It wasn't Mason. He was incredibly rude: My husband agreed. One star is a star too many. I can’t stand it when people in the service industry “bite the hand that feeds them”. In addition, the hostess was almost as off-putting. Twice. I say that because we actually returned once the crowd thinned out. As far as the food: It has a lot of sugar added, reminiscent of an overpriced and trendier version of PF Chang’s. Step it up!!! There are too many great places, with service that treats people like family, to dine in Birmingham.
Been here twice and the food was great both times. The service was good as well. my only complaint would be that for the bit on the higher side price of the dishes, the quantity seemed a bit on the smaller side. In other words not really a bang for your buck so to speak. Thats the only reason for 4 stars vs 5. Not a deal breaker though...will visit again when in the city.
Had a great meal with work colleagues! We had a table outside which was really nice. Whiskey Wednesday was a great deal as well - can’t beat that Old Fashioned for $5! I ordered the burger and it was outstanding! Perfectly cooked and was so delicious. Will definitely be back again.
Excellent food! The seared salmon was perfect with a lemongrass butter sauce that was delicious ( not too fishy). The salad with ginger dressing , scrumptious. Will try this place again during our stay! oh and the rice , perfecto
First time patron. Really enjoyed the duck nachos and wings. Cocktails were tasty as was the spicy garlic shrimp entree. Nice ambiance. Felt comfortable in my casual attire, but atmosphere also lends itself to a more dressy ensemble
Delicious meal. Fun decor. The spring roll appetizer and the cauliflower appetizer were fantastic. Loved the shrimp bowl entree. Fresh and flavorful food. Interesting cocktail menu as well. Glad we made reservations as it was packed.
Love the food and drinks. The staff are generally very nice. Love the outside seating areas... just always enjoy the decor and ambiance of the entire venue. There is a great upstairs where you can throw an event, though there needs to be some updates to the a/c situation up there. Nice spot for a low key dinner and/or takeout.
Dinner was amazing! We had a wonderful time and everything I ate was delicious, and I tried a lot of stuff (Korean fried cauliflower, duck nachos, wings, pork belly bao buns, and coconut bread pudding) and the drinks were on point! I can't wait to come back!
