“Best Izakaya type restaurant hands down in Richmond.Must visit when in Richmond!Parking and LocationVery easy to find on No.3 Road. The parking is plentiful with the parking lot directly in front and back of the mall.AtmosphereExtremely great decor that is of a typical Izakaya eatery in Japan. Reminds me of Tokyo and some other in Japan. There is also a big screen TV for those who wants to watch sports. There are a few rooms for more private spaces but floor space is plenty.FoodThe food is excellent! From the uni sushi to sashimi, to the robata of beef tongue and chicken knee, everything taste excellent. There is a wide variety of choice in sake, both hot and cold. The beer is great, especially the Okinawan draft beer, which has a clean taste and goes down quite easy.ServiceThe best if all is the service. The owners, Glenda and Spencer, may also join you for a quick drink! Their hospitality is the best of the overall experience. It reminds I me of Izakaya places in Japan where the owner joins you in chatter and drink. Definitely a great experience overall.Geanbei Izakaya is highly recommended for both a place for excellent food as well as a place for a gathering. Will definitely visit again whenever I'm in town. I would say this is my local hangout whenever I'm in Richmond to see family and friends.“

“Stopped here for lunch while driving from Seattle to Vancouver. The location is in Richmond and there is plenty of parking. It was my first time here, but the inside of the restaurant felt like I was in Japan. Although it was lunchtime, there were seats available and I was able to sit down right away, but then the place was full.I had a hard time looking at the menu, but this time I decided on the hitsumabushi.Because when I went to city of Nagoya last year, I missed the famous conger eel hitsumabushi. There are three types of Hitsumabushi, and I chose the "Unagi Hitsumabushi Gozen" ( Unagi Don, Pickles, Seaweed, Green Onion, Wasabi, Mini Assorted Sashimi, Kobachi, Chawan Mushi. ) Hitsumabushi can be enjoyed in four ways. “I had a lovely lunch of Assorted Oden at Gyo-O recently. It was a simple meal, but Oden isn't something that I see often around here so I was very happy to be able to order it at Gyo-O. There's another restaurant in Richmond that's supposed to specialize in Oden, and I had tried it one time but found it quite disappointing. While there was a wide variety of Oden to choose from, we weren't very impressed with the food when it arrived at our table. Oden is meant to be a hot wintertime stew but the broth that was served with our oden was not at all hot. This Oden at Gyo-O was much better. The broth was hot as it should be, and the size of the food was impressive. The tofu and daikon were both massive! Such humungous chunks of tofu and daikon. I'd had Oden in Japan not too long ago, and the daikon there was also huge. This daikon at Gyo-O was quite comparable in size. Possibly slightly larger even. If I have a craving for Oden, I don't think I'll bother searching for any other place in Vancouver to have it. I'll come straight to Gyo-O again! My friend was with me and she ordered a Tendon bento box. She said the rice texture was a bit off, and ended up pouring soup over her rice to moisten it. The tendon though, according to her was very nicely crisped.Service:  GoodParking:  Plentiful and freeLocation: #2137 - 3779 Sexsmith Rd., Richmond, BC“

“Very good place for izakaya and sushi as they have a good variety of skewers, sushi rolls, appetizer, and some specialty dishes. The mentaiko rice was very flavorful, creamy and we would definitely order this again. The ton Ttoro and shiso chicken were juicy and had a nice charcoal taste. The beef tongue and chicken gizzard were good too, they had a hint of the charcoal fire taste and my wife liked them. The imperial roll was good as the salmon was fresh. The salmon was velvety soft and not like firm wlike when it's been on the fridge for too long.We also got the garlic butter clams as an additional dish because if we just ate skewers, our bill would have been huge. LolThe service was great. They came around and filled our tea so often that our cup was always full. Whenever we needed something, they were there. The food came out quick and when it got very busy, they did advise that the skewers may take longer as they can only make so many at a time. The parking lot isn't too big and it fills up quickly but we were lucky and got a spot right away.“

“We got the Crab Cream Croquette which tasted so perfect. The softness and crunch of the croquette was immaculate; plus the included sauce was yummy too 10/10. Wagyu Beef Carpaccio was alright- I’ve tasted better but it isn’t bad here 7.5/10.The Scallop Uni Cream was my favourite that was 10/10. The flavour of the Rigatoni Miso Bolognese wasn’t that good. The sauce was a bit watery and it just didn’t have a special flavourful taste to it 5/10. The Shimeji Wafu & Bacon was my family’s favourite. The texture of the noodles were pretty good and it wasn’t overpowering with flavours so it’s good if you prefer lighter tastes 8.5/10. Personally, the Pulled Pork Ragu was pretty similar to the Bolognese, but my brother really liked it 7/10.Dessert was my favourite part of this meal. We got the Matcha Kinako Tiramisu which came pretty fast. It was so delicious and soft, it wasn’t too sweet or heavy so it was so perfect. The matcha powder sprinkled on top had the perfect bitterness too. Toffee Pudding w/ Matcha Ice Cream was very good as well. It was sweeter than the Tiramisu which was no problem. The combination of the cold matcha ice cream and the warm toffee pudding was very very yummy. The wait time for the food was around 10 minutes or less which was pretty good, but I think it is because we also came at a later time (7 pm).“

“The sushi at Tsukiji, while decent, did not quite live up to the standards set by other Japanese sushi houses I've visited. The flavors were somewhat lacking in depth, and the freshness of the ingredients was not as pronounced as I had hoped. The selection was adequate, but it didn't offer the wow factor that I was looking for in a sushi dining experience. The service at Tsukiji was average, neither exceptionally good nor bad. The staff were polite and attentive, but there wasn't a sense of warmth or personalized attention that can elevate a dining experience from ordinary to special. The efficiency of the service was commendable, but it lacked the personal touch that can make a restaurant stand out.Overall, I would rate my experience at Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant as a 5 out of 10. While it provides a satisfactory dining experience, it doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of the exceptional food quality and service that I seek in a Japanese sushi restaurant. It's a decent option for a casual meal, but it may not satisfy those looking for an authentic and outstanding sushi experience.“

We thought we might need to order more since we had 3 adults but we were actually quite full! I was impressed by how thick the sashimi slices were cut and they were all so tasty and fresh. “Great sushi spot in Richmond if you're willing to spend a few extra bucks! We ordered the following for two:- uni cream udon- volcano scallop roll- red n blue roll- hamachi sashimi (6 piece)- aburi sushi combo (2 orders)- ube puree ice cream (2 orders)- x1 beer for myselfEverything tasted great and the quantity was just enough for 2 people. The only item I wasn't a huge fan of was the uni cream udon, to me it just tasted like mac n cheese sauce on udon noodles...but it wasn't too bad.My favorite was the Red n Blue roll. It was fresh and delicious! ? I also enjoyed the ice cream dessert with the ube noodles thing on top of (matcha flavoured?) ice cream.Service was good as well. We got seats as soon as we walked in on a Friday night. Surprisingly this place wasn't busy on a Friday night, perhaps it was the price of their menu, but either way it worked out for us! Servers were attentive and friendly.Only con would be the location. The assorted sushi set at $38 (2024) showcases local and Japanese imported fish, fresh and well portioned for each piece to be eaten in one bite, non lock-jawing bite. The saba battera is a little different than other restaurants since it showcases much more redness and has a lot more fish flavor. Some may be a little overwhelmed so try if you truly like Saba :), but dive in if you love it.Other standouts are the ankimo and tako wasabi and their uni tasted really good too (not sandy nor bitter).I really enjoy the intimacy in which it feels to dine here. “Up close and personal??Been to the old location a couple of times a lifetime ago but first time to this new location. It is located on the ground floor on the corner of Garden City and McKim Way. There is a parkade at the back and paid street parking along the street (if you are somewhat lazy like me after a long day, it’s $3/hr right out front lol). The inside is greeted with a fish tank of koi fishes, bar and sushi bar along with the kitchen to the right and tables to the left as you walk in. A small but comfortably spaced out dining atmosphere.Upon arrival and told over an hour wait but sushi bar is available. Opted out at first but my friend didn’t mind the UP CLOSE and personal experience so sushi bar it was. Here were the food I ordered;1. Unagi tamago. Decently okay, nice little appetizer to begin the meal with. Usually if just tamago, I prefer it at the end as almost like a dessert.2. Tako wasabi. Nice texture but lack the wasabi taste (actually I can barely taste the wasabi).3. Soft shell crab. Very nicely done and the crab was of good size plus came with a nice fresh salad!4. Oyster motoyaki. Nicely cooked and tasty. Finally a place understands how to cook a straight to the point good motoyaki.5. Foie gras toast. The foie gras was seared nicely but the toast was over toasted, the sauce was too much and overpowered the beautiful buttery taste of the foie gras.6. Kimchi mentaiko yaki udon. Added the kimchi sauce while pan frying it, good! Didn’t add the masago too early good! Ingredients were generous and didn’t over cooked, good! BUT cooked the kimchi cabbage together, resulting in nothing but warm sour cabbage, not good!7. Deluxe sashimi added Hokkaido uni for $58 extra. Everything was fresh and tasty. Bite size as I preferred them (some of you who preferred over sizes then you will be disappointed lol). But I am bit disappointed with the selection for $65. The uni was fresh but $58 for 9pcs whereas the each of the uni nigiri has 3pcs in them for $16. The uni nigiris are perhaps a better deal than the uni sashimi?!?8. Engawa nigiris. Lightly torched and a nice light sauce, very tasty.9. O-toro, kinmedai, shima aji, chopped scallop nigiris. Everything was fresh and tasty but wish the O-toro nigiris were just a tad bit more generous in portion especially for the price. This is a nice little place with a warm and cozy vibe. They do have a selection of creative dishes that most likely you don’t find at other places, but the price tag is a bit higher here than your average Japanese restaurant. I assume the goal is quality over quantity. The food was fresh and of good quality, no doubt about that. All the sushis were bite size just the way I liked them but like I said earlier on if you are those who prefer bigger portions, this may not be for you. I would put this place on an option to repeat if I am in the neighbourhood but for the same price, there are similar or better options throughout the lower mainland.Overall the service was friendly and attentive, but I did wish I got a table instead of the sushi bar because there was an empty table throughout the duration of my time there. Nevertheless, up close and personal once awhile is okay at long as good food and good company.“

“Seto is a authentic, family style Japanese restaurant which serves both raw and cooked Japanese food. It has a sushi bar as well as quite a number of booths like an izakaya. We ordered a sushi boat for two ppl, a pork gyoza and a negitoro roll for sharing asking three of us. All the food tastes good, especially the sushi boat. Besides sushi, it also have some thick cut salmon and tuna, rolls, prawn and veggie tempura, oysters, salad and fruits. It also came with soup and ice cream. It is absolutely amazing to the eyes and the palate.Though the food Seto served is nothing fancy, it is just the way I like it. I will definitely visit again.“

“Takeya Sushi is like a cross between a typical sushi joint, and a Japanese "Konbini" (the food section).? - They have a menu with a large selection of freshly made-to-order choices, consisting of sushi, curries, noodles, rice bowls, etc.❄️ - In their coolers, they carry ready-to-eat meals, desserts, snacks, drinks as well as more sushi, rice bowls, etc.?️ - The prices are very reasonable, Takeya has always been a more affordable option than other sushi restaurants around. No in-store seating, but there is a park nearby where food can be enjoyed in the hot summer months.“

“Incredibly fast service. I ordered and within a minute the rolls were on my table. Super tasty food. Servers were nice. I am amazed how fast they are. I parked, walked in, sat down to eat dinner, ordered takeout, and left all within a span of 10 minutes. I’ve never experienced such quick service before. I’m impressed. “- HOT DAMN!! The biggest Nigiri sushi I have ever eaten. Not just the meat is bigger but also the rice. Each is about 50% bigger than its competitors or each is between 3.2 to 3.5 inches long. It's amazing!!- Those who don't like wasabi in their nigiri will love it here. They don't put wasabi in between the meat and the rice.- The prices are also cheaper than most too. To take its big size into consideration, that makes BanZai's nigiri the cheapest, no doubt.- I didn't have the chance to try their sashimi this time, but seeing my neighbor's orders, each piece is big and at least half an inch thick too. And each plate has 6 or 7 pieces. My wife said it reminded her of a sushi restaurant in Wan Chai, Hong Kong called "元神" where their sashimi was 3/4 to 1 inch thick and people were willing to wait 2 hours in line to dine there. We were one of those people, several times ?- My wife ordered the $12.50 "Beef Teriyaki Donburi." She liked it, but she said it reminded her of the "Golden Island Pork Jerky" you find at Costco, as they both have the same taste. The bowl of donburi was too big for her to finish, so she had to doggy bag it.- Looks like BanZai will be our go-to sushi restaurant from now on, even if we have to Uber there. ???.[Update: March 25th, 2024]Finally tried their Toro sashimi. $19.75 for 9 pieces. That works out to just $2.19 per piece. That's quite a bargain considering Toro nigiri costs $2.75 each. Not only that, Toro sashimi pieces are thicker than Toro nigiri pieces. In the future, I will order Toro sashimi over Toro nigiri for sure. The only complaint I have is their "Cash Only" policy. Having to calculate tips in my head, I almost always over tip them, much more than the 15% any establishment deserves. Annoys me a bit..“

“We came here on a weekday evening for dinner. The restaurant is operated by Japanese people. It looks small and homey but the food was so fresh and delicious. Service was excellent and food came quickly. This is like a hole in the wall type of restaurant and I will definitely come back again.Parking: You can easily find parking on weekday evening but good luck with weekends.Kid-friendliness: The seats are comfy and well spaced out if you sit at the booth seats“
