“I have been to many fine dining restaurants however the experience at Marilena Cafe with Josh was phenomenal and next to none. He had great hospitality, recommendations and attention to detail. We tried oysters, sushi, pasta, steel head, chicken and desserts. Couldn’t find a single dish that i didn’t like. They have great vegetarian options as well.We were so happy that we visited the next day as well and had the best time. Highly recommended.Vegetarian options: Great garden sushi and pasta“
“Fishhook is TRULY a Victoria staple, the food is unique, and the staff is incredibly friendly. If you’re ever visiting Victoria, this is a MUST eat, the food is so tasty! On top of that, they are very accommodating with special diets, the Fish n Chips is celiac friendly, which is incredible! One of the best places in Victoria! They also serve one of the best fries I’ve ever eaten, it is a superb experience.Dietary restrictions: Celiac/Gluten-free friendly“
“I am floored by the amazing service at this restaurant! All the staff are sweet and very helpful. I am a very indecisive person, but with the recommendation of the staff at Ono Poké it made making my own bowl a breeze! Let's just say the day I went to Ono Poke I left satisfied by the amazing taste of the marinated Shoyu salmon and have been craving poke since I left the restaurant. There is no doubt in my mind this is the best Poke place on the island, and I bet its the best in the whole world!“
“The food was amazing. I'm really used to sushi and other Japanese food. Yua was next level. I ordered the okonomiyaki having had and made great okonomiyaki before. Yua's really reset my standards. They have a wide selection of sakes that have to be tried.Vegetarian options: I have an eggplant oshi and it was amazing.Parking: The food is fantastic. It's a shame that the parking situation in Downtown Victoria is artificially poor: expensive, hard to find and likely that you'll get a ticket. Still, it's worth the risk to come to Yua for dinner and drinks.“
“Really cozy atmosphere, lovely staff, and the most accomodating bathroom we have ever seen. Lovely food in gigantic portions--we got almost 3 meals out of our $20 meal.Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options, asked if I was ok with fish sauce and egg --> likely vegan accomodating tooDietary restrictions: Checked in for allergies“
“Tried it out for the first time yesterday, and it has rocketed into my top recommendations for Victoria. Nice, unpretentious vibe. Definitely laid-back and hipster, not fine dining. Would be a great place to meet with friends for drinks and happy hour. The food is absolutely spectacular. One of the best selections of oysters I’ve had in a restaurant (including places like Araxi) and reasonably priced (I will definitely come back for their two dollar happy hour oyster shucks.) The absolute star was the Wu-Tang clams. My wife loved the lobster roll as well.Cocktails were well thought out options that pair well with their dishes, but I think I would stick with their reasonably priced wine and beer list.Almost everything on the menu is seafood. If you bring someone who doesn’t eat it or is allergic there is a salad and a cheeseburger as options for them but that’s it.“
“First time visited during happy hours before the pandemic, food was excellent, service was good, and loved it that it was actually quite quiet, got special menu with discounted food on happy hours menu. All good!2nd & 3rd time visited during the pandemic period but when restaurants are allowed to open. Went for dinner early evening, got top quality service, limited options for gluten-free choices but the server made a point to customized my friend’s dinner, top notch professional service! All the food (appetizers and entrées) including sushi were excellent.Yesterday, went during happy hours, ordered something but the server said the menu has changed. We ordered different steaks and lobsters, unfortunately, both lobsters didn’t taste fresh, the steaks were only okay. It seemed like they had new chefs. I will still give it another chance!“
“We were visiting from Kelowna and celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary dinner at Fathom. I had the scallops and my husband had the octopus. The levels of flavours were delectable! We enjoyed the Brick French Toast at brunch the next day. Our server at dinner was Ryan and he was very attentive!“
“Ainsley was a great server. I come from years in hospitality and if I ever have standout service, I leave a review. Food was great, everyone in my group enjoyed it. The beef burger was so good (delicious house made bun!) but our service is was stood out to all of us. Thanks for the great experience Ainsley, we will back eventually and asking for you!“
“They serve generous portions of chips, easily sufficient for three people with a small size. I wish the chips were a bit more crispier though. The coleslaw was delicious, and the halibut was exceptional. Although I'm not usually a fan of salmon, it was surprisingly good. With its reasonable prices and ample servings, it's definitely a great place to visit!“
“Best happy hour for oysters on the planet. I’ve tried both upstairs and downstairs as they act as different venues.Heidi was my server downstairs on the outside patio. She was super fun and her bubbly personality made my dinning experience better. The first thing she offered was a bowl of water from my German shepherd. Smart. Her service was the best yet after about 10 visits over 6 years. The oysters are great. What makes them even better is their horseradish. It’s super strong and tasty. The upstairs venue on a separate trip wasn’t as good. They don’t offer horseradish and did it offer to grab some from downstairs. They use medicine type droppers that ruined the experience for me.My concern over the droppers is food safety. I was worried they might have been used by someone before (maybe days) and with shellfish I was out of my comfort zone in regards to food safety. For now I highly recommend sitting downstairs and asking for Heidi as your server you won’t be disappointed.I love this place and will be a regular.“
“Amazing food, great service, generous hosts and social and fun atmosphere to relax in while having a satisfying and delicious meal.Basically everything you'd expect from a 5 star restaurant. Thank you to all working at Panda. Hope to be back soon.“
“We were only in Victoria 2 nights, but were so impressed by the food here we came back for seconds. There’s a good range of seafood with 5 different fish for the fish and chips, steamed clams, scallops and crab, fish tacos, wraps and sandwiches. They were superb with gluten free options, even having a separate fryer.Even on a busy night with a long queue we were still served in around 20 minutes, and there’s plenty of seating directly opposite on the wharf. There’s paid parking across the street, or it’s a short walk from town, but be careful if a cruise ship has just docked, as this is right on the walk from the port to town and can get overrun quickly when that happens.Dietary restrictions: Superb gluten-free options, with a separate fryer for fish and chips.“
“I have to say, the servers Scott and Juanita really knew their stuff ??. They provided attentive service that was above average, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The view and overall vibe of the place were also really nice, creating a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy our evening. To top it off, the staff surprised us with a cute little birthday cake for my friend, which was a really thoughtful touch. It added a special touch to the dining experience and made the occasion even more memorable.Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the food. The steak we ordered was a letdown. We asked for a medium, but it came out well done. That was a big disappointment. We were hoping for a juicy, perfectly cooked steak, but it just didn't deliver. ☹️The squid dish was also underwhelming. It lacked the flavor punch we were expecting. It fell flat and didn't leave a lasting impression. However, I have to give credit where it's due. The batch of oysters we had was a saving grace. They were fresh, flavorful, and really saved the meal from being a total disappointment. We thoroughly enjoyed the oysters and they were definitely the highlight of the dining experience. In conclusion, while the service and ambiance at Vista 18 were great, the food didn't quite live up to expectations. The overcooked steak and lackluster squid were major letdowns. The oysters were the only shining star in an otherwise mediocre culinary experience. Hopefully, the restaurant can work on improving the consistency and execution of their dishes to match the level of service and atmosphere they provide.“
“I used to go here quite a bit of time when I was in UVIC I brought my daughters back for the first time in over 25 years and overall was a great experience and nothing has changed whatsoever really impressed at how things were the same. Thank you.“
“This is a lovely fun restaurant setting with exposed brick and art on the walls. We ordered multiple small plates which were beautifully presented, unique and delicious. The service was top notch from our server who was attentive and even brought us extra baguettes to soak up the delicious sauce from one of our small plate dishes. A lovely evening.“
“We had a super time at happy hour. Justin, our server, was lovely. We were in comfy chairs by the fireplace. The food was really among the best we have had. Mussels are in a very tasty sauce and the toasted focaccia bread was really good for dipping! My husband loves dark chocolate and their house made chocolate lava cake with housemade brittle was to die for. Thanks to Justin and the talented kitchen crew!! We will be back.“
“Great place to get Thai food! They were apparently the first Thai food place in Victoria, according to the introduction on their menu. Happy to stumble upon this place.I got the chicken pad thai from lunch menu, and my husband got some sort of red curry. He was used to food places not being really spicy even if it’s the highest level, so he got a 4 out 5. It was REALLY spicy, so this place is legit spicy lol.Lunch menu comes with a spring roll.Parking: We parked at a nearby paid parking garage and walked over.“
“Nestled in a hotel, it would have been easy to miss walking by but the service and food was amazing. The team behind the restaurant is super friendly and accommodating. Back home and I’m still thinking about this mushroom pasta they have on their lunch menu. 10/10“
“Pros:- Fresh and Local Ingredients- Great Service from waiter that explained backstory of the dish- Good portion, me and my girlfriend were both stuffed by the end of it- Small, Intimate Atmosphere- Allowed Wine Pairing to be split into two cups (we are not big wine drinkers but wanted to try it)Not so Good:- Since the kitchen is right around the corner, the girlfriend did not like the smell and got a headache (I forgot about the smell after a few mins)Review:In general, the food ingredients were fresh and I liked hearing the backstory to each dish. The server was great at explaining each dish and also the wine pairing which really enhances the dining experience. Be prepared to spend the full 2 hours in there for all the courses, this is not a quick dining experience. Menu will change every two weeks ish time (slowly replacing item after item). Great for a one time experience, but not keen on returning“
“Fantastic restaurant in an *amazing* location - what a view!! Our server was so knowledgeable, helpful, and kind, and the food, of course, was outstanding. Cocktails were delicious and creative. We had an absolute blast. Cant wait for our next visit.“
“Once again, TCR exceeded expectations. Its always a wonderful treat to get to eat at this establishment - whether its breaky, lunch, happy hour or dinner - the food is always interesting and tasty. This restaurant is highly recommended and a must-visit when I'm able to be in Victoria. The most recent dinner was the tasting menu, which I would say is not to be missed. A secret culinary adventure that strikes all the right notes and offers a wonderful sampling of Vancouver Island focused delicacies. The chef is not afraid to push the pallet, which makes a blind menu all the much more exciting! The wine list is incredible - and uniquely, offers a multitude of local Island and provincial vintages if staying regional is important. Or follow along with the somm's astutely paired offerings. In short, you can't go wrong with The Courtney Room! Love it“
