“Toro is a very beautiful restaurant. It looks and feels like you are under the sea.Had a very amazing Bento boxFood was fresh and beautifully presented. Green tea was also wonderful and beautifully presented. Will definitely return and suggest this place!?❣️“
“I come here the second time while I am giving a review. I am a fan of Japanese food and I found that this place outstanding from where I went during 3 months in Victoria (love it) salmon is fresh and amazing takoyaki. even chocolate mint after bills is amazing to.“
“I love everything about this place BUT if I could please suggest one minor thing: PLEASE stop using that lemon-pinesol table cleaning spray. After almost finishing an amazing meal, the table next to us gets cleared and sprayed but the lemon smell kills every pleasant olfactory sensation after that point and it just ruins the meal me. So many alternative and effective sanitizing sprays to choose from that don't smell horrid.“
“These folks are the friendliest restaurateurs in Victoria. My go-to is the udon noodle soup, however their rolls are also amazing! Great portions at a reasonable price. Lots of options for non-sushi customers.Vegetarian options: The veggie udon I am eating right now is delicious!Wheelchair accessibility: First floor, automatic doors. Avoid a ramp by entering on the Yates entrance“
“went last summer and first impressions were that it was definitely one of the more expensive Japanese restaurants. The food was good so it made paying the price worth it. The service was good as well, kept on checking in to see how the meal’s going.“
“The people here are so so lovely and the food is very good! Fresh fish, good portions, reasonable prices. The poke bowls are particularly tasty, and their rolls are also always excellent (caterpillar roll and futomaki roll are two of my favourites). Also have a fun assortment of drinks including several flavours of Ramune. Easy to order online, usually prepared within 15-20 minutes for pickup. My coworkers and I are regulars.“
“Came here upon someone else's recommendation and it lived up to his praise! The best chicken teriyaki and tempura I've had on the island and the service on all ends was very pleasant - will definitely be regulars here for the lunch bento!“
“Nice variety of Japanese cuisine.I came here specifically eager to try the sushi and ended up going with the Sushi and Maki Gozen. It’s clear that the chefs know what they are doing when it comes to the technique, but unfortunately I found most of the raw fish to be somewhat bland here. A hint of that for me was drenching the spicy tuna roll with spicy mayo/sauce - quality sushi shouldn’t need the extra shenanigans if you ask me!What’s notable is the large variety of foods on the menu, from noodles to soups to sushi to tempura. But, in all honesty, the Gozen was quite dissatisfying. The beef side dish was a confusing addition to a sushi plate, and the fruit plate (“dessert”?) was laughable… take a look at the picture of it.Worth mentioning the very sweet customer service, but unfortunately at this price I can find so much better quality sushi and Japanese food in town.“
“One of the best sushi dinners we've had in a while! The miso soup was amazing, sunomono salad was delicious and our choice of rolls was outstanding. The chef even gave us some asparagus in our tempura because my hubby loves it!!! My kids loved their meals as well.We will be back next time we are in the area.“
“Sushi Mago makes the best sushi in Victoria. No contest. The loveliest people work there. Everything is super fresh, ready on time and prices are quite reasonable. We love this place so much!Parking: Small lot, but always a space available. Exiting is difficult, requiring either an illegal left turn across three lanes or right turn across separated bike lane/right turn lane combo, thru lane and then to left turn lane if you want to head back to Gordon Head Rd or to McKenzie. Not business fault, it's poor traffic and safety planning on Saanich's part.“
“This place is fantastic. Two times I have been here when I was feeling very down in the dumps. Both times I picked up the sushi and went to eat it by the water. The taste was exquisite and made me feel much better. 2/2 is 100% - numbers talk! Highly recommend.“
“Always a pleasure with consistently above-average food. While some dishes may occasionally miss the mark, overall, it's a great experience. This time, the yam and spicy salmon rolls were fantastic, and I appreciated the perfectly cooked rice—a rarity in some sushi places. The hotate age was also a hit, and the Bianco dessert, as usual, was a delightful way to end the meal.“
“Always fresh sushi and it's quite affordable! Also their selection of items is really nice! I asked for help finding tasty stuff for meals and snacks and the staff were very helpful in identifying items I have difficulty reading. Highly recommend if you are hungry for good Japanese cuisine within the shelbounre area!“
“We found this place while starving during lunch hour; we didn't know that this restaurant is strategically located in the heart of Langford, with a grocery store next to it, and plenty of other restaurants nearby as plan B's, just in case we didn't like the menu lineup. Thankfully, that did not happen. The lunch specials gave us enough mileage, so we ordered two different versions of that. My version had beef teriyaki, and I paid extra to upgrade the California rolls to Dynamite rolls (best $1 I've spent all day). The Dynamite rolls held together well and were tasty. The beef teriyaki was okay, but I was pleased at the generous portion on the Bento box. The lunch special also came with miso soup, salad, a few pieces of tempura, and an upside-down orange. All in all, quite a pleasant experience. We came during late lunch, so the place wasn't busy, and the one person manning the floor was enough to serve everyone.“
“This place is a 10/10 and a bit of a hidden gem as not many people seem to know about it yet. Easily one of the best places to get Sushi in Victoria - their bento boxes are amazing, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. I hesitate to write this because I never want it to get so popular that it becomes hard to get a seat, but they deserve the praise.“
“Incredible atmosphere that somehow manages to be both exciting and intimate, and like the food, in perfectly balanced servings. Amazed at the number of flavours and ingredients they are able to fit into a sushi roll without falling into the "westernized sizing" that so many similar establishments seemed to have adopted. Delicate, balanced, and satisfying without being a meal ender. For those who enjoy all the various food media these days, and have wanted to experiment without signing up for a large, unknown dish... the Tapas style and extremely affordable menu makes multiple visits not only a must, but a new, yet familiar experience with each visit. Attentive yet subdued service finishes the dish perfectly. Balance and thoughtfulness are the threads throughout which the entire experience is woven.“
“Sushi Jiro is an exceptionally delightful dining experience, boasting an inviting ambiance complemented by the warm and cordial staff. The menu offers great value, with generous portions that promise not just satisfaction but a true feast for the senses. Each dish is a testament to freshness and flavor, ensuring a memorable meal that leaves you eagerly anticipating your next visit.“
“Stopped in for a late lunch. Ordered the 10 piece assorted sashimi platter. Fish was phenomenally fresh and tasty. And the pieces were humongous. Reasonably priced, excellent service, and I will return at my next opportunity. Highly recommended!“
“The first time I tried Kissako, it was the best sushi I had ever head. Two years later, I still feel that way. The food is always so fresh and unbelievably tasty, and the owners are incredibly friendly. The Tuna Tataki is out of this world and the Black Dragon Roll is to die for.“
“Every dish here is delicious, and every roll is generous and authentic. The desserts really amazed everyone present. The boss is very nice and the service is enthusiastic. This is a very perfect experience and I will recommend more friends to come here to try it.“
“This place was amazing. Came on family day with our two young kids. The wait time is long but the chef (and restaurant owner) warns you in advance and lets you decide if you want to continue. We opted to because we could tell his food was going to be high quality. We ordered party tray C (nigiri not pictured but was amazingly delicious and fresh) to make it easier on the chef, and we were all very well fed after coming from a long hike. Our son (4) couldn’t stop eating all the deliciousness, and really grew his love for my favourite, unagi. This place is very reasonably priced and we will be regulars going forward. Seating is limited so best to order takeout, especially if you don’t want to wait long for your food. If you have patience and want to come for the ambiance, you’ll be able to appreciate the decor and the immaculate cleanliness of a small shop run by one amazing chef.Come for the atmosphere, great quality and fresh food, and show appreciation and patience for the chef for being an incredibly hardworking shop owner. (I highly recommend you overlook the negative reviews as they are seemingly not very forgiving or understanding of what this gem has to offer).“
“Checked out Sakura Japanese Cuisine Sushi Bar & Grocery to grab some sushi grade salmon and other Japanese items.Decent selection of tea, sauces, rice, noodles, snacks, etc. Didn’t try any of their food items but the “to go” selection had bentos, katsu, tempura, kara’age and sushi rolls.Bought ~1/2 pound of frozen sushi grade salmon ($29.85/lb), a bag of sushi rice and a spicy tuna musubi ($4.00).Reminds me of a mini version of Fujiya Foods.“
“I have been to many fine dining restaurants however the experience at Marilena Cafe with Josh was phenomenal and next to none. He had great hospitality, recommendations and attention to detail. We tried oysters, sushi, pasta, steel head, chicken and desserts. Couldn’t find a single dish that i didn’t like. They have great vegetarian options as well.We were so happy that we visited the next day as well and had the best time. Highly recommended.Vegetarian options: Great garden sushi and pasta“
