“Utterly charmed by this place. After eating an incredible, smoky bowl of split pea - which John (the owner) made on the spot on his gas stove behind the register - for $3.75, I bought some grocery staples and a few treats. While shopping, I marveled at the hand-packed "leftovers" stored in the wood-paneled refrigerator, on sale for a modest $1.75/portion instead of being thrown out. A business as personal and homey as Oh Happy Day is a marvel these days. I feel gratitude and respect for John and the space he's fostered. Will be back many times.”
“A no-frills "fast food" spot. They have a very diverse menu consisting of American, Mexican, and Chinese food. I have yet to try any other item besides the burgers and fried zucchini, which I'm a fan of. The service is quick and your food is cooked to order. The burgers are a great size and delicious! Also, do yourself a favor and get the fried zucchini. The batter is nice and crispy, and the zucchini is sliced thick.”
“5/5! Came here for breakfast. My husband and I shared the classic breakfast burrito and the vegan breakfast burrito. Both were delicious but we agreed the vegan one was a little more flavorful. The yogurt bowl with their fresh granola and raspberry puree was divine! Order that if you don’t want something so heavy but yet still a great portion size and will fill you up. Coffee was excellent too.”
“The pizza and fries are soo good! And service as well, we wandered in close to closing last night (had an event nearby) not knowing they closed at 8, but we still felt welcomed and the younger blonde guy at register did an excellent job. We had a Hawaiian type pizza with dried pineapple, which sounds weird but was SO good! And fries with their garlic sauce, I'd go back for those two items for sure. We also had a supreme pizza that was delicious as well. Also, tried their freshly made lime guava lemonade, we loved it. Wish we lived closer, would be there more often!”
“I had the taco pastor with like a cheesy taco shell onion, cilantro, the works. It was absolutely the best taco I have ever had in my life. They were $3.00 each and worth every single coin. I was off my diet for one day and wanted tacos. Now I am thinking to extend my day off to two days. I bought three tacos and they were so meaty. And the owner was super kind and soft spoken. It is 5am and I wish I had of purchased 10 tacos. They were just that good.”
“Been here twice, loved it both times, and currently have plans to come back. We will probably order the shrimp and grits EVERY TIME WE VISIT. It's just that good. Pies are also awesome, same room for dessert.”
“i got Murphys Green and it was quite good. thin crust was nice and had the perfect amount of chew/weight in the crust for my taste. pesto was tasty and a good balance, i think less toppings are okay since the crust is so thin. i ate the whole pie by myself oopsworkers were very sweet, everything was very clean. a little expensive but i was very impressed with the speed and taste ?”
“El Caporal is my go to for Mexican food in Altadena. The food is always delicious and they have a wide variety of options available. The food is always ready quickly and accurately. You get a lot of food for a reasonable price. I highly recommend them!”
“I ordered the pepperoni pizza “well done” via the toast app and it was perfection. Crisp, Clean (not greasy) and Tangy. Definitely the Best Pizza in the unincorporated neighborhood of Alta Dena. I was able to park on “little” New York Dr (the residential parallel street that doesn’t have a separate name) and walk across Minoru to pick up my pizza. Check your text messages because the pizza can be ready much sooner than the time listed on the Toast app or the email from Toast.Parking: park on “little” New York Dr and walk across Minoru”
“Speedy service, great prices, phenomenal burritos that'll keep you full for a long time. You can tell it's popular amongst locals because of all the work trucks in the parking lot at lunch. The VARIETY of meats you can get on the burrito is also unmatched, and I strongly urge anyone reading this to get out of their comfort zone and go for a cabeza (beef head) burrito. I was blown away.”
“A good morning starts with a cup of black coffee! I like watching the mountains and enjoying a good cup of coffee best.Great store! This is the best morning coffee experience since I came to the United States. There is a quiet atmosphere and elements of a big city. I like the feeling of international integration, just like here!?”
“This place is a true gem. The owner came to our table and chatted with us for a long time. This is homestyle Greek cooking. Made to order. Made with love. Don't think twice. Go!”
“This place is perfect if you want a laid back location to watch some sports, eat pizza, and have a drink. My group was so happy to find Altadena Ale & Wine House after striking out in crowded Pasadena - next time we will skip Pasadena entirely and come straight here.”
“I was visiting from out of state and had the opportunity to eat at this hidden gem. As a foodie that has visited many different countries, islands and local food establishments, this food was like heaven! The smell and the myriad of flavors spoke to my soul!! I didn't mind waiting for fresh, hot, perfectly seasoned and crafted food. If they were open all day, I definitely would've eaten there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My only disappointment is that I don't live in the state. This is a MUST dine at spot. A special shoutout and thank you to the gracious owner for memorable meals and my friend Herb for introducing me to this place. I look forward to returning.”
“Food is good. I ordered a few of the different lunch specials. Added side of egg rolls. Everything was delicious and healthy. Nice clean dining area and love that they wheel a cart next to your table so you can help yourself to condiments, etc. Nice neighborhood/ family run business.”
