Just drove up from LA today. We were tired from the drive & decided to order delivery. This was the first place on Yelp that delivered to our address in Sugar Loaf. We ordered food at 6:40 and I called to see how long it would be for delivery. We were all starving!! I was told that the kitchen is backed up so it would take about an 1 hour. Food didn't arrive until 9:10. Kids were dying of hunger. Had they just told me the accurate time, we would have ordered elsewhere. 2.5 hours for delivery is ridiculous. The food was $190+ $30 tip. For $220 & a 2.5 hour wait, I would have thought that the food would be excellent. However that was not the case. Not only was the food horrible, but they didn't follow any of the instructions on the order. Penne with pink sauce- very bland, pasta over cooked. Kid's fettuccine Alfredo- sauce was broken, noodles over cooked. It was just 1 giant clump of pasta. Kid's salami pizza- bleh. A frozen pizza would have been better. Salmon- fish was good, sides were inedible. Very small portion of fish. Lobster ravioli- we had asked for the vanilla beurre blanc on the side. It was served on top & the vanilla just tasted odd with the seafood pasta. Harvest salad- this would have been my favorite thing we ordered. Unfortunately we had asked for the Gorgonzola on the side & the salad had so much of it. Kids wouldn't eat it because of the cheese. Overall, one of the most disappointing meals with a hefty price tag of $220 for 2 kids, 2 adults. And the majority of it went in the trash. Might be a better experience to dine in but the whole experience makes me never want to eat here again. I feel so ripped off.

Such a cute little restaurant! Super intimate, quiet, and the best staff. I recommend making a reservation because it fills up fast even on a weekday, i went for my birthday and the staff was super accommodating and sweet! Fast service, amazing food and great ambience is all you can ask for in an amazing restaurant experience.

Staff was lovely and attentive. The grilled artichoke was delicious, the bread was yummy and my husband enjoyed his fish. However, My dish - pink sauce with shrimp over linguine was unfortunately not very good. Pasta was overcooked and sauce was just ok. I took a few bites and left th rest.

This is a 100 out of 10 on everything! A home run! This is my first time eating at Sweet Basil Bistro and all I can say is "AMAZING!" From the minute you walk in you are made to feel at home. The service is perfect in every way. It's like you are family and made to feel welcome. Then the food comes, WOW!It's heaven on earth. The chicken Alfredo is homemade and the best in the world and I've eaten it in 27 different countries so that says a lot. They have the best choice of wine. The whites are terrific my favorite is their house, Merlo. Bread is fresh, all you can eat. The owner is the most amazing person I've ever met! She knows how to make you feel welcome. The hostess, chef, waiter, and staff are fantastic. Big Bear has many places to eat but Sweet Basil Bistro is hands down the best on this mountain by far. They do take walk-ins if it's not busy but I recommend making a reservation because it's popular for a reason. Call ahead for sure. Make sure you order dessert, because that menu is to die for! Chocolate mouse cake, Gelato, so many choices, but I loved the terramasue. It's mostly Italian but has a great seafood menu and more. Lunch, dinner, dessert, wine, and more. A wonderful atmosphere. A family place but very romantic also. A great place for a first date, engagement, reception, birthdays, and more.Thank you, Ali and the staff at Sweet Basil Bistro for making my birthday the best I've ever had.

We were visiting the area and on our last night we decided to go out for a nice Italian meal .. and so glad we picked Sweet Basil Bistro . We were seated as soon as we arrived, the waitress told us about the specials , and opened our wine we brought with us . Our food showed up very soon and was delicious ! and we had a nice conversation with the owner , Ali . We will definitely go back to say hello to Ali when we return to the mountains next time .

This is not a large place so make sure to make reservations. One of my favorite places to eat in Big Bear. Garlic Shrimp appetizer was very good as was the meatball lasagna bolognese. Lobster Lasagna was very rich but very good.

Ordered the "special" it was discussing. Meat was probably old! I sent it back, my waitress never even returned to ask if I wanted something different. Never came to refill my water. It was like I upset them, so then after that they stopped caring about our table! Couldn't get out of there faster! Won't be returning!

A true disappointment. I wanted to take my parents to a nice Italian restaurant, and I thought this was it. However, this place is in a bowling alley shopping center -first disappointment. we decided to look past that and went anyway. The service turned out to be terrible and the food was mediocre. it almost seems like they try so hard to be THE nice Italian restaurant but fail terribly. I will not be coming back here.
