“I would say hole in the wall but it's a food truck in a Liquor store parking lot and it's a pretty good spot. Fusion sushi rolls were pretty good tasting but a little pricey and a little small. They were cut into real small pieces like 16 pieces so easily shareable. The chicken fried rice is pretty tasty as well, a good filler with plenty of chicken. This One man operation-took order, cooked, bagged up and everything Friendly and as fast and efficient as could be. Tables to sit at and liquor store to pick up drinks, definitely could be on the rotation for sushi nights.“
“National City & the South Bay area are quickly becoming a foodie paradise. This place is new to me but I really liked their menu options. We had a unique Sushi n Gone roll, some delicious soup & a nice side salad. Come early because parking is limited during peak hours. Family friendly tho they do serve beer. Great staff.“
“This is a restaurant I found while on a business trip. The ramen is seasoned well and tastes better than what I ate when I studied abroad in Japan. There are a lot of them. If there's one thing that's disappointing, it's that the noodles aren't fresh, but the owner was very kind, and I'd like to visit again if I get the chance. From Korea to Japan“
“I have eaten here about 5x already in the past 2 months. I am so addicted to the tempura mix entree that comes with about 4 shrimp and a mix of green beans, pumpkin, broccoli and onion rings tempura, all coated in a nicely seasoned airy and light batter, just the right sweetness sauce, miso soup and a refreshingly crunchy salad.Yesterday, I decided to go to an old time favorite nearby, ordered the exact equivalent of what I get at Sushi Namu, which takes me here to.make this well deserved 4-star review. I can unequivocally state that Sushi Namu's tempura is far superior. Just writing.about it makes me want to go again. I have been eating tempura for about 40 years now and I think I can say that theirs are some of the best I've eaten this side of the equator.Their tables are very clean each time I go and their servers are soft-spoken and respectful. That other place I went to smelled old and moldy.Good to have something this good in the South Bay and not having to go to Convoy.Typical strip mall parking woes is behind the 4-star ratingVegetarian options: I didn't pay attention to their vegetarian menu but I'm pretty sure they have sufficient options or at least ok to modify based on your request.Parking: Can get a bit crazy with Starbucks drive thru traffic on one end and Popeyes drive thru traffic on the other in a small strip small.“
“This has been a favorite of our family. My mom is Japanese and we have gone to others. But she says this is the best one!!I would also go get lunch and take it to one of my mom's Japanese friends. I was taking care of her and she was a picky eater. This is where I go every year for my Birthday, when my son & grandson take me and also for mother's day. Also the service and prices are excellent.Parking: Located in the Town & Country strip mall.Kid-friendliness: I have always taken my kids and now my grandkids!“
“This place has the best sushi!? It's been here for awhile but my first time going,!! Service is fast and efficient. Not as welcoming as I'd like . The building is a bit old and we went on a very hot day, they don't have AC! There was a big fan in the corner. If not for the heat this place deserves 5 stars. I will definitely go back once the weather is not so hot. The food is worth it;Crunchy roll and chicken yakisoba were the best!! You can watch your sushi being made! Great authentic flavors!! It's found in a small strip mall with decent parking lot. Overall good experience!“
“I was hungry and driving around looking for food. I was open to trying out a new place. This place exceeded my expectations, great servings, great price, and great flavorful food.Husband had the Ramen which he loved.I had the Teriyaki Chicken & Cali Roll plate. Started with the Miso, which was as good as it gets. Then came the Cali roll, it’s a simple roll and was executed correctly. Then came a generous portion of Chicken, Rice, and Potato Salad. Loved the chicken and rice. Salad was good. Potato doesn’t make sense for me but it was good. Lastly, I appreciated the small details they added to enhance their plate presentation like adding a pineapple & leaf. I would definitely go back and recommend to friends.“
“Quaint looking from the outside, welcoming on the inside. Large dining area, big enough for a reasonably sized party. Quite a few people seated (last I went), but the staff were tentative and prompt. Very courteous and helpful, they made us feel welcomed and at home. The all you can eat is reasonably priced per person, and the rules are simple: 3 rounds (couldn't do more than one) and up to 2 hours, you order it / you eat it. The rest of the menu is reasonably priced as well, with a good selection. Will be coming back here when I'm in the area!Vegetarian options: More vegetarian options than expected. Usually I expect two or three vegetarian sushi options available, but there were more, and not plain Jane options either!Parking: As this establishment is in, amongst other businesses, there is usually plenty of parking, handicapped or otherwise.Wheelchair accessibility: ADA compliant, ease of access, large accessible restrooms, and tabletops for those who bring their own chairs!“
“The parking is little tricky and sometimes you need to park on the street. The sushi and presentation is authentic and very very fresh. The two chefs create very friendly environment. We love going there. The price of the food is very reasonable and well worth it.They change the menu every 3 months. We definitely will be back.“
“Amazingly fresh sushi, you can taste the freshness and quality in each bite. Definitely lives up to the hype, first time here and I live within walking distance since 2019. Took the bestie here for her birthday and she too enjoyed the food and the ambiance.“
“It was just a beautiful, tasty, artful experience. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and feels straight out of Japan. The staff are attentive and kind. The reservation system is annoying, but once you get in it makes sense. They have a tiny seating capacity and I believe that's critical to the quality of their food. You have to get the full 2hr omakase. It's an incredible journey from start to finish. I've had sushi all over the world, this is some of the best I've ever tasted. If you sit at the bar (which you must try and do) you can watch their three sushi chefs prepare the fish right in front of you. If you're not used to Japanese flavors and textures, definitely come with an open mind! Most of the pieces they serve aren't the norm in American Japanese restaurants.I went for my birthday and the chef pulled a guitar out of nowhere and serenaded Happy Birthday with the staff. I've been twice and it's absolutely worth the price tag.“
“Just go. You’ll be glad you did. A group of us were in San Diego for a convention and decided we wanted some sushi. After some quick research I came across Makai as the only 5-star rated sushi place. I was a little suspicious because restaurants just don’t get 5-stars. There’s always an unhappy customer, right? Well, we took the chance and I’m thrilled we did. The owner is the chef and he was extremely welcoming and his sushi was, no kidding, among the best I’ve ever had. I had the Godzilla sushi bowl and the combination of seafood, rice, sauce, avocados were perfect. I could hear everyday. And, I’ve had sushi all over the country and throughout the world. Some really swanky places. Makai is different. I’s personal. Not pretentious. The food is amazing, but the experience rivals it in it’s feeling of authenticity. Will be watching for this place to grow as people find this awesome place.“
“I spent my 21st birthday here and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The amount of care and time it took the chefs to prepare our food in front of us was a work of art. My boyfriend and I love Azuki and it's our favorite sushi place in San Diego, so he was so sweet to book a reservation here to surprise me on my birthday. If you didn't know, Kinme is an extension of Azuki and it specializes in Omakase. If you're a fan of Azuki, or if you just love sushi in general, you need to try this place!! We had so much fun and experienced new fish that we have never tried and we were so so full afterwards. My favorites were the wagyu tartar puff pastry and the braised wagyu. The scallop with uni on top also blew me away. The nigiri was outstanding. Every bite had me closing my eyes and I really just didn't want the sushi to stop coming. The service was amazing and everyone was so attentive. I ordered a hot tea and immediately after I finished my pot I was asked if I wanted more hot water. The chefs were very friendly and asked us repeatedly if we enjoyed the previous dish (which we always nodded excitedly). Right when you come in the ambiance is very relaxing and there's more than enough space between you and the people next to you. At the end, they gave us a physical menu of all the dishes they served us, which I thought was a very thoughtful touch and a cute souvenir to remember my 21st birthday dinner. (pictures and menu was from 2/28, which is a towards the end of their winter menu. Their spring menu might be a little different!)“
“Went for lunch and got the omakase, it was incredible. Expensive, but the unbelievable food and unique experience justifies the price for a special occasion. Every bite of fish was unique, fresh, and tasty. Shrimp and scallop sashimi were out of this world, same goes for the marinated tuna. Even dessert was delicious. No wonder dinner reservations are so hard to get!“
“Had an amazing time at Harmony. We sat at the bar and had the omakaze menu. The quality of the fish was incredible and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Chef Mickey does a wonderful job pairing flavors that have you happy to the last bite. Highly recommend; this place is a gem!“
“I love this place!! Have ordered many times and they never miss. One of my favorite places to eat, the sushi is phenomenal. The menu has all the classics and some creative rolls as well. The hand rolls are perfect and the nigiri is impeccable. I don’t know what their secret is but they have made a lifelong customer out of me. 10/10“
“This place is beyond amazing! Not only LOCAL and FAMILY owned and operated, they do amazing work for the community. The food is absolutely delicious too! This is a wonderful place to visit by yourself, on a date, with family or friends, or meeting to with colleagues!“
“Good Japanese grocery store! I am so happy that it’s located in this area! I like Mitsuwa in general so it gives me comfort when I see it around! They are some restaurants in the store so you get to have hot japanese foods right there! :)Keep up the good work!Cheers ?“
“I came to this restaurant base off the reviews, they did not fail me. This restaurant has amazing service, my waiter talked to us about the whole menu, had conversation with us and even explained things. The food is full of flavor and you cannot go wrong with anything you get. The environment is clam, chill and relaxing. Definitely would bring all my friends here.“
“My husband and I rarely go to sushi. Besides our favorite place back home because it’s usually such a disappointment. We decided to give this a try and I’m so glad that we did! Stephanie was phenomenal! ? The atmosphere was great and all of the food was delicious. We got a Bento box and two rolls and will definitely be back!“
“Good service and food. The dragon roll, oh man I am not big on salmon, but it was just how I imagine it should be. Mike and Maria are awesome host! They were caring towards my kids and even celebrated my daughter’s birthday with us. Congratulations on there success and resilience during the past few years. I know their hearts are in the right place and that they will continue to strive to be successful in everything they do. Oh and for sure we’ll be back to stuff me fat face!Vegetarian options: I did not checkParking: It’s a strip mall in the busiest part of San Diego. So, yeah.Kid-friendliness: They were awesome with the kids!Wheelchair accessibility: The parking is tight but there was a space in front.“
“Got the crush orange roll, udon carbonara, matcha brulee, and rainbow protein roll. The rainbow protein roll was very refreshing. The crush orange roll - I think they forgot the orange aspect because we didn't taste any orange at all. The udon carbonara is best split among 2+ people - we got it with shrimp but would recommend bacon. The matcha brulee was amazing! Highly recommend any of their desserts!“
“Came here on a weekday for lunch and sat at the sushi bar. Hane Sushi closes at 2pm, but reopens later for dinner. It wasn't too busy when I walked in around 12:30pm, but they had a solid amount of tables about an hour later. Service did not appear to falter just because it was close to closing... it actually got even more attentive, but not in a pushy "we're about to close" way. Staff here is super nice and I can tell that the chefs are happy to chat with customers to find out what they like. I got the crunchy salmon roll ($24--the menu posted on their website says $19, but that's very outdated) and the special ceviche roll ($27). Based on past reviews and pics on Google, the ceviche roll has been available for several years now (and should probably be on the regular menu), but maybe they switch up the fish here and there? Mine had spicy tuna/avocado inside and was topped with seared yellowtail, cilantro and jalapeño.The fish was verrrrry fresh and of great quality. The location and ambiance is also nice, but nothing special. I will say though, that the entire place was super clean, even the bathrooms.I think that Hane's prices are a little higher than they should be, but I feel like that's most places in SD. The fact it cost me about $50 for two special rolls during lunch is the reason why I won't be back again anytime soon. I There are other places in the area that offer quality sushi with lunch specials, or just more reasonable pricing generally. I'd still recommend Hane Sushi to others based on the quality and good experience, but this place is better suited as a date night rather than a stop for lunch.“
“We became a big fan of Kokoro and the chef. We had Sushi Omakase. My husband and I are from Japan, but this place had the best and most authentic sushi we've found anywhere in Japan or the U.S. I chose it for my husband's birthday, and it was a hit including the atmosphere and portion! We've since recommended it to some friends, and they've all been fans as well. We will definitely be going back soon!“
“BESHOCK Ramen East Village is a hidden gem for ramen enthusiasts! The moment you step in, the cozy ambiance and welcoming staff make you feel right at home. The menu features a tantalizing selection of authentic ramen dishes, each bursting with rich flavors and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.“
“I have been to this specific restaurant once before at this location. Area is busy, parking is hard to find. I went on a Friday at around 3ish. Dining area was not full. I was seated right away. Order taken within rhe first 3 minutes of sitting down. Waitress had great attitude and checked on me regularly. Had a great time , happy, satisfied with the plate of rhe month, enough food. Same great flavor. The best miso soup in SD.“
“From the time we walked in to the time we left, the staff was: Warm, welcoming, and attentive. The selection at Little Sakana is substantial: There are appetizers, salads, traditional sushi pieces, baked rolls, and fried rolls. We loved all of our food: The chicken and noodles, appetizers, and the sushi of course! The dining room got loud as it has an open seating arrangement but the music was modern and nice.We will be back soon!Dietary restrictions: My wife and I have some allergies, our server showed our allergies to the chefs and the manager to ensure we were safe. She was kind, pleasant, I did not see any allergens in my food.“
“I live in Japan 40 years and co invested and ran a chain of 500 sushi shops. My expectations for Azuku Sushi were low, but I was totally wrong. I was just totally surprised by the amazing quality and authenticity of the food, the friendly and professional service, and the excellent drink and sake list. The sushi neta is huge and very high quality. The Otoro is perfect. The "San Diego" local uni is a good as anything I have had in Japan. The menu had Hamachi Kama which we could not resist and it was prepared perfectly. On top of the food menu, Azuki has the best Japanese whisky list in San Diego. And served perfectly with high quality clear ice. Be careful, the top shelf is all the cheapie fake Japanese whiskies but the bottom shelf is the real thing. It doesn't get better than Azuki Sushi. It's perfect!!“
“Okay so I found this place here on Yelp in search for a really good sushi restaurant and I believe I found what I was looking for! The ambiance is hip, modern and welcoming! The service is outstanding! From the minute we're were seated our server was extremely friendly and excited for us to try the sushi dishes! He gave us very good recommendations! We ordered the live uni and it was amazing! We continued with their spicy garlic edamame, spicy yellowtail roll, and half moon roll and all were impressively fresh! We are definitely returning to this place for good sushi!“
“This small sushi restaurant is the place to be. I asked for sushi that would be unforgettable and I was served multiple courses of big eye tuna, aged wagyu, snapper, and more. I had the deep fried PB&J for dessert and was amazed on how delicious it was. There aren't words in the English language to describe how delicious the sushi was.Goody was an amazing chef who curated the perfect dishes. All around a great cozy atmosphere to enjoy the best sushi ever.“
“My wife and I were in town for a conference, it was a little further from our hotel, but it got decent reviews so we thought we would try it. Man did it not disappoint! Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and the service was amazing! The food was much more affordable than it has right to be. I will be going back the next time I’m in town!“
“Small neighborhood sushi spot with great sushi and sake! The sake specials are something to definitely take advantage of! Unfortunately the bang bang corn was not in season during my most recent visit, but we’ll be back in no time. It would be best to call for a reservation, as they do get busy.Parking: Parking sports in front of restaurant and neighborhood parking.“
“Delighted to discover this gem in Bay Ho/Bay Park in San Diego. Love the vibe, excellent service, and the food is great! I went with chef's choice, but the small portion, "Jun Kun". It came with edamame and miso soup, followed by 4 pieces of delicious sashimi (halibut, amberjack, salmon, and red snapper). Then came along 3 beautiful pieces of nigiri, salmon belly with ikura on top, yellowtail belly, and chutoro with caviar. Finished it off with a blue crab hand roll. There was craftsmanship and care in the preparation and the fish tasted amazing and so fresh.Excited to come back and try more on the menu!“
“The owner was very kind and I came with my family even though I asked for takeout, the man told me to go with my wife so I wouldn't worry, he would take the food to the car, nice action on his part and everything we brought was very delicious, thank you ?“
“Great experience, however! The restaurant and staff need to make it clear that the “soy tuna” is real tuna and not a vegan option! It may not make a difference to some, but to others it means a world of difference!Vegetarian options: Not clearly labeled when it comes to the soy tuna! In fact it is very deceptive!“
“We're from out of town, and this is probably some of the best sushi I have ever had. We came back the next day. The atmosphere was pretty chill and has a Pokémon theme. My son and I about craped our pants when we walked into the bathroom, they have fake spiders and bugs coming out of the vent, down the wall. It was funny afterwards lol. The staff is great, friendly and the place it clean.“
“A delicious omakase in San Diego! Shoutout to our cousin for taking us here!We had a reservation at 7:30PM for a Saturday evening meal. I believe we were sat on time and we got right into drinks and the course. Staff was friendly checking in on us and Chef TJ was fun, positive, and created a great omakase environment!I won't go into too much detail of each fish (as the menu can change with each service), but for the value, I thought it was an amazing meal!Parking is relatively easy to find in the plaza.I'm headed back to San Diego next week...so I'm going to have Matoi again :D twice in 2-3 weeks is my kind of vibe!“
“Ikuri sushi is deserving of each of these five star reviews. Incredible sushi made with obvious fresh ingredients, technique and care. The service is quick and the atmosphere is perfect for an intimate conversation or a nice solo date.I will recommend this place to anyone!“
“If you come to SD, you must try. This place is the real deal. As a self declared foodie who has travelled the world looking for the best eats, I fully endorse Taka. Sat at the sushi bar and had a great experience! They even have a bottle of Habushi from Okinawa behind the counter. You must ask them to show you! Pretty cool!“
“We just moved to Little Italy area and we’re recommended Shino as the best local sushi spot. We went for dinner this past Saturday and I now understand why it was highly recommended! The sushi was incredible, the staff was quick and on point, and it was the best little spot for a great date night! We will be back and highly recommend for anyone looking for the best sushi joint in little Italy!“
“It had been a while since I’d been cuz it was always too busy and we didn’t want to wait in line the night we wanted ramen. So, we were happy when we decided to try again on a weeknight and we got a table. The only bummer is the ramen was not nearly as good as it used to be. The shishito peppers were fantastic.“
“It gets packed but there’s an automatic wait list tablet they put out front; plenty to do while you wait 10 min in the area (like grab a treat at Calabria).Sushi is tasty and they are fast. It’s loud as hell but worth it. Riki is a well oiled machine of sea faring flavor ?“
“Heard good things about this spot, and I was not disappointed. It was delicious! I got the 'catch of the day' Macadamia Crust. It was delicious, had flavorful sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. & their french fries are perfectly crispy. Quick service, we went on a weekday evening for dinner. Only thing that sucks is trying to find parking, had to circle a bit.“
“I have been passing here for a few years, not knowing this little hole in the wall! They serve Hawaiian and chamorro(guam) delicacies. Super Ono(good) ??!! Sushi bar ?, nothing but good vibez and great grindz. Sushi was tailored made for me. Will be back for more sushi ? ?. Enjoy ??“
“Family run sushi a-la-mexicana!! Food truck sets up Friday-Sunday and offers extensive menu of Japanese and Chinese favorites, including delicious sushi rolls. My Alaskan Roll hit the spot. You can also call and order ahead of time. Will definitely be back to try their other plates and rolls!“
“We are regulars here because the service is top notch, the food/sushi is excellent, and the bartenders remember us and our favorite drinks every time we grab a seat at the bar. The Rose Roll is second to none, the Ramen is bomb, and my partner loves the Lemon Cilantro Roll as well. It can get really busy late night on the weekends and sushi during these times can take a long time to come out (understandably) so plan ahead, be patient and kind. Mahalo!Parking: The ground floor of the parking structure next door is free for restaurant parking! And it has EV Chargers!“
“Perfect place for a date night!!!!! My husband & I hardly ever go out, but I saw an add from Instagram, I HAD TO make it out here. We sat at the sushi bar area & I am SO thankful we did. The downside of this is that the waiters & waitresses take so long to come over, ours only came up to us like 4 times in 2 hours lol. However, sushi chef KIWI was amazing!!!! He guided us on what to get, what's most popular & helped me out since I am not a fan of fish but love shrimp sushi so he worked around my liking & it was the ABSOLUTE BEST sushi I have ever had. He made sure we were taken care of & practically became our own personal chef & waiter lol. He was so nice to us & I really want to put him on a pedestal! The food, my goodness. I can't gather the words man, it was so fresh, not fishy & just a mouth full of authentic flavors. We ordered also the ramen soup. Hands down 100% best ramen we have EVER had. Again, so rich, so creamy & full of flavors I didn't even know existed !!!! Oh, I can't leave out the cheese corn, that corn threw me to the floor, I am half European & Mexican & that corn tops BOTH cultures in corn !!! Another great appetizer we tried was the jalapeño bombs & that was exquisite!!! Spice level is like 3/10 but again bursting in flavor & crunchy. This hidden gem needs to be recognized because man, hands down 5 stars. Drink wise we had the soju beer bomb, it was quite bitter for me I definitely wouldn't order that & I love beer lol but that one was too wheat-ish for me. My husband got this watermelon flavored good day bottle & it was amazing lol that drink we drank as shots, it was very delicious! If you decide to come here please please sit at the sushi bar, ask for kiwi & make him your best friend!!! Enjoy guys! We will definitely be coming back for more !“
“We visited with friends and ordered a wide assortment of dishes: rolls (Tommy roll, Lemon roll, cut roll) udon, poke, miso soup, and also tried several appetizers: crispy salmon skin, edamame, and spicy edamame, fried gyozu, and assorted fried vegetables. The food was surprisingly well done, it was clear that great care went into their menu and dishes. Everyone was very pleased, and feeling very glad we gave this place a chance -- we'll be back!“
“This place was a pleasant surprise for me. The food was very delicious and we came on a great day where it was cold and rainy outside. It look a little but longer than usual to receive the food and bill, but the taste of the food, friendly service, and great atmosphere made up for that x 10. I wish I lived closer to keep eating here!“
