Wow. Everything was not good. The chips were extremely stale. The rice was undercooked. The beans were like a soup. The carne asada in the enchiladas was sweet. Never had sugar in my enchilada meat.

I showed up starving and ready to have lunch at 11:30 just for them to not be open even though it says they are open.

Found another good spot for our Mexican food. PROS -fresh ingredients, tender steak, Carnitas and chicken. -LOVE that he made us fresh made taco shells and chips!!!!! -clean and friendly service -Good portion sizes and good taste in food -Great location -Love their chips and guacamole. The guacamole is super fresh tasting and exactly the way I like it. Just avocados and nothing else dumped in there to make it mushy. -really good green Verde salsa -Love the Spanish rice here. Super fluffy fresh

I order the carnitas plate and the man literally grabbed the chips that come w it with his bare hands. Didn’t wash his hands either bc I saw the dirt under his nails when he added up my order. Then complained to his friend I didn’t tip in Spanish like I wouldn’t understand.

I'll start by saying Mexican food is probably the most elite cuisine our world has ever seen, which puts an undue burden on every little truck and storefront to really bring the fire. El Chilar didn't quite take me where I wanted to go, but by no means did it suck. Mexican food cannot ever suck (similar to pizza) only vaguely disappoint. We ordered the Baby Burrito (beans, rice, cheese) and the Super Nachos with carne asada. The Baby Burrito was $8 and was actually gigantic; much of it rice. But my daughter ate the entire thing in one sitting, so, success. The Super Nachos was $12, and bizarrely also contained a lot of rice. The asada was good but somewhat sparse, and instead of real cheese, there was a sort of thin cheese sauce. When I saw it being poured on, I knew I did not have a life changing box of nachos in my direct future. The chips, the building blocks of a good nacho, were the uncomfortably wettish kind that explodes a little grease with each bite, so you start to feel worse and worse about yourself as you go. All in all, not my fave experience, but if I'm ever craving a gigantic bean burrito (it happens) this is the move.

I advise everyone not to eat here. Should of know something was off when it looked like someone took a dump on the burrito. Looks like prepackaged salad mix mixed with very bad meat. The smell it self should have convinced me not to take a bite. Its supposed to be a burrito majado. They sent me beef salad wrapped in a really bad tortilla.

Ordered the Plato de pescado online, arrived 15 minutes later, the guy doesn’t seem to have my order at all, and asks to see the confirmation. Then he squinted at it for a while and says I ordered 2 fish tacos. I say no, the fish plate. So then he and says it’s going to cost $5 extra compared to the website. I told him to forget it and left.

We ordered an al pastor super burrito, but the cheese wasn't even melted :( the tortilla chips were absurdly salty, but the pico de gallo wasn't too bad (a bit spicy).

Large burritos. Excellent chips and three tasty salsa options. Fast and friendly service. I appreciate the free beverage when you spend $10+.

3.5 stars (really wish Yelp would introduce a half-star system). Due to COVID, their normally robust meat selection is currently pretty limited as they're only offering a few different meats, which was disappointing because I really wanted to try their chile verde. I instead went with the pollo and my fiance got the asada; we both went with super burritos, which have rice, beans, meat, cheese, onions, cilantro, sour cream, and guacamole. They also come with a side of chips and a can of soda. This burrito is absolutely huge. For $8.75 this is a bargain. Unless you're starving or have a greater appetite than most, this is definitely two meals in one. I preferred the asada to the pollo; the asada had a nice meaty, grilled flavor, but the pollo was a bit bland, despite being marinated chicken. That was kind of disappointing to me. But overall the flavors worked well together, the rice wasn't at all mushy like some previous reviews have suggested, and the salsas my fiance brought home were tasty. We had a green (looked/tasted like perhaps tomatillo), a red (dark, seemed chipotle-based), and pico de gallo. The tomatillo was the best in my opinion.Pretty good burritos overall. Not mind blowing, but I still can't get over the size, which is just awesome in its generosity. Definitely the traditional super burrito size I remember growing up eating at taquerias. Good deal, fast service for a weekday lunch (which will also likely be your dinner).
Good burrito at an affordable price! I did initially want to call in for pick up but no one picked up the phone. I then got a fairly curt response not to call again. So I'd recommend just showing up, they are fairly quick in getting orders out.

Love the burritos here. It's busy during lunchtime and there's no comfortable place to sit while waiting for service and the preparation of your food. But it's good food.

Dishonest business that overcharged me! Yes, my credit card statement does not match my receipt. I decided to give this place a try and ordered the steak super burrito and it was terrible! The steak had all these disgusting organ smells to it and the overall burrito tasted mushy and old. Cashier by the name of Briana had AirPods on, has a some serious attitude when I said hi to her with a smile on my face. Explains why there was no one else in line during lunchtime on a weekday.

This place had the worst el pastor tacos I've ever had. Way too sweet and watery. And I used my card to pay and they charged me an extra $2 for using my card. I've never heard of that and I used my card all over Oakland. I guess I need to look for another taco spot near my job!

Wowza got a giant burrito today for $9! The al pastor with pineapples and a TON of guacamole that's included!!! Yummy salsa and homemade chips also included. Couldn't even finish 1/2 before I was full! Best $9 you can spend in Oakland for lunch! Will for sure return :)
