The cafe is getting a full "reboot." I chatted with a couple of the store managers and they're looking at all their options to create a better cafe space, mainly with respect to what type of menu they will offer. For instance, the now serve much improved drip coffee from Highwire Coffee Roasters -- nice touch. In the meantime, you can order food at the deli inside the adjoining Community Foods Market and then can come into this space to eat/drink. I will continue to to give this place my business and will keep my fingers crossed for them to succeed, along with my favorite new "super" market.

This market is filled with super helpful and friendly staff. Many options for grocery staples makes it easy to shop for weekly needs (including gluten-free options and vegan options) and makes a trip to nearby Berkeley Bowl only necessary for more exotic ingredients every once in a while, which is great because that place is too crowded. I've enjoyed the quiet shopping in the few times I've been in, but I hope that doesn't last long because this market deserves a lot more traffic. Can't wait to try the cafe!

This place is ammaazzzinggg. I was finally close enough to shop at this store, and I'll admit I was a little scared the prices would be higher for an independent grocery store, and that's a big nope! I got all of my taco ingredients, canned goods, produce, fresh salsa, locally made tortillas, ALL for the same price I would at any other grocery store. Was impressed to see a wide variety of everything, a meat counter, vegan products, etc. There might not be 10 brands of every product, but every product you should need is there with the best value and quality products. 5 stars for food accessibility and a great store!!!

First time here and I will definitely be back for another sandwich. For 6.99 I got a nice sized sandwich, it was ham and salami with dijon mustard, mayo, cheddar on a whole wheat bun....Good quality meat, bread, mustard and cheese!!!

Very nice store with ample bike parking and a very bike-accessible route on Market St. The prices are much more reasonable and the selection is much better than a lot of other groceries in the area like Temescal Produce Market.

Great little supermarket! People that work here are SUPER helpful and friendly. Location is very convenient, service is over the top, and the place is just a joy to walk into. They are just getting off the ground, and they improve each week with what they learn. But CFM is more than just a place to buy food....it is a place that helps to anchor community-and they really work at it. Major stand up applause! :)

When we first entered the parking lot we felt more than welcomed. My family and I walked in the store and we were extremely impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the way the store looks visually. The food selection was also impressive from fresh produce to the meat options. We were able to purchase local coffee to as well buy Gatorade. We are from Whittier ca, so to be able to come up to Oakland ca and have such a vast selection of food at discounted prices really helps my family. It was also good to know the store is for the community by the community, it felt wonderful to help support a great vision.

Hey! A full service grocery store in West Oakland! Awesome! I stopped by after hearing Community Foods Market was open. I was pleased to find an excellent produce section with some amazing fruits and vegetables. Pricing appeared fair and reasonable, far less than Whole Foods or farmer's market prices. There is also a butcher, deli, and hot food section. Rotisserie chicken and mac 'n cheese were both on point. You can find some specialty items here like nut cheese, pancetta, or fresh masa to make your own tortillas or tamales, but most of the packaged items are the conventional grocery store items you might find in a Safeway. Service was friendly, but a bit inexperienced. There is a very large parking lot that is unfortunately underutilized at this moment due to lack of customers. Anyone shopping at Sprouts or Safeway should make a one mile detour to shop here instead, non-corporate, locally owned.

Quick and simple grocery run for dinner things, they had everything I needed. Plenty of parking in the parking lot. Super friendly staff. So happy Community Foods has come to West Oakland, the neighborhood really needed this. Lots of organic options.

This grocery store has really beautiful fresh produce and good prepared foods. One of the best fried chicken cutlets and beat crab cakes I've had. They have a good selection of other things, usually a cheaper option alongside an organic, more expensive option. It's bright, clean, wide aisles and I love how they've hired from the surrounding community to bring jobs to the area. There's a nice little cafe in the front two. Go and support this new business!

I stopped into this very clean and wonderful foods market. The amazing parking lot allowed numerous cars, I feel this place is going to be amazingly popular in the very near future. After learning that it to ten whole years to get it built from concept to selling their first product, you can see why. Community Foods Market is not your usual community grocery store, but rather a store that carries the best, most delicious organic vegetables. It also has a deli and a clean cafe. There is a seafood section, a meat section, salads with hot food deli. The seafood section offers a variety of fresh fish, crawdads, crab, oysters, and even mussel. It's all on ice and you can see them working hard behind the display case. For the meat section, I have purchase Filet Minion, TBone Pork and NY Steak fresh from those areas. Where else to you can buy a fresh whole chicken, frozen duck or your usual sausage, bacon or eggs all carefully curated by people who care what they serve you. They will also custom out a sandwich or if you like to ask them what you want, for a small price they might custom something to your needs. Whether it tuna, turkey, chicken, roast beef or others, your choices of very high-quality cheese is sure to be involved. Edison, the chef is super nice, and if you can snag any of his either BBQ ribs, Fried Chicken or rotisserie chicken before they run out. In the regular isles, you can get cereal, bottled drinks, candy, and canned goods. Then round out your grocery visit to the organic fruits and vegetables. Hot Peppers, cilantro, romaine lettuce, carrots mango, avocado, onion, garlic, spinach, apples, apricots, peach, banana, cherry, strawberries, so much more, all from the organic bins. When I cut into the pineapple or celery, which I have, it smells wonderful, like real food. When it came to where I paid my food, it was very reasonable.

Community Foods Market amazing addition to the community! I was excited about the local produce celebrating the local farms in California. In honesty it's a smaller market... but it's mission of community and local is what Oakland is about. I'm telling all my neighbors to "Come to Community Foods" first!

It's a good community grocery store. It's REALLY small and doesn't always have everything you need but it's really good prices. Lots of fresh and local products which I love. They also have a nice little cafe in the corner that I'm excited to stop by the next time I go. Maybe grab lunch there. The staff is really nice, there isn't a lot of people there so you don't feel overwhelmed and it's clean and quiet. Again, they don't have a large selection of food but they have the basics and it's cheap, which I like. Also it's super close and right down the street so I'm probably going to be coming here a lot

So far so good. I live right around the corner and have been sick. This market's soup has been fresh, wholesome, and tasty. It'd be nice if they had different soup sizes with different price options though.

So glad this place opened! There are plenty of fresh grocery options along with dry and frozen products. You should definitely do your research since I saw some things that are cheaper at other stores, but I was especially impressed by their meat/fish counter (see photo). The people who work here are also really friendly. There's parking too!
