First time here, and I can say I had a great experience. For those who have never been here, you pay first and then they bring you your food. The decor is pretty neat and it’s definitely different. Very colorful and nice, definitely pleasing to the eye. I ordered some crab fried rice and honey walnut prawns. The crab fried rice was good, but I didn’t really taste much crab meat. The honey walnut prawns were fried a little bit too hard, so they were extra crunchy and borderline rubbery. But I’m willing to give it another go and try it at another time because the staff was really awesome and everyone else in my party enjoyed their food. I recommend.

This Monkey King is the third branch of a family owned business, the other two are in Alameda. I've been doing to the locations for a while and highly recommend them for their wings, garlic noodles and various Asian entrees. This location has a full bar.I haven't dined in there before since they opened in the middle of COVID, but they now have a dining area. I've mainly ordered takeout from them and they haven't disappointed.

Have to be honest the food was a little disappointing. Wouldn't call this a 'restaurant' but instead a place to get great fusion fried food. Everything is fried and salty so make sure that's what you want. If so - 5 stars! If not, don't go.

Good wings. Nice options. Odd vibe. Like a half abandoned sushi restaurant that got turned into this new place by throwing up some tvs to distract you from it. Staff always seems friendly but a little off. Hard to explain. Just an odd vibe.Fountain sodas would be nicer than cans.Took a star off for the rice, though. It was super old, with dried out crunchy bits. Not at all fresh or properly prepared. The noodles and wings were good.

Boy, this place is terrible. The ambience was abysmal, the food was mediocre, the service was bad. The place felt like it was being run by children. They only had one beer left so we had to share it. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had.

I paid 60 dollars for my food and got small portions, like no that's what we're not doing like Alameda was better. But this staff was nice. And they ran out of plates so they had to use togo containers.

Food is average, the prices are super high and the food doesn’t even come close to compensating for that, not bad but not good

When I got my food, it was cold. The honey walnut shrimp was tough and hard to eat, probably reheated.

I placed a to-go order for garlic noodles and wings at Monkey King, our family's go-to choice, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was prepared exceptionally fast, and it tasted absolutely delicious, as always. They season and cook everything to perfection every single time. When I arrived to pick up my order, the service was outstanding. The staff was friendly and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable. I also decided to try one of their virgin drinks, and it was absolutely delicious, adding an extra layer of delight to my visit.Monkey King, you're doing an amazing job! Keep up the great work, and you'll continue to have satisfied and loyal customers like me!

So sorry, but we tossed everything. We purchased lumpia, thinking it was freshly made, it was not. It was purchased premade lumpia which is the worst. The veggie chow main was flavorless. The pork fried rice was just ok. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but it was not good.

I’m sad to leave this review because I used to love this place, it was one of my favorite Oakland spots …..but I won’t ever be coming back. The last two times I’ve been, I’ve found long pieces of hair in my food. Today there was hair in 2 of my dishes. It’s disgusting. The service is poor. Last time I came, I waiting 45 minutes for cold food, AND they said I could only do takeout (2 hours before they closed and the place was empty). Today I watched them tell a customer they were no longer seating people right after they sat me….. the place was empty and it was an hour before they closed……
