“Visited this incredible bar & grill last Saturday at 1:30pm. We had a group of 7. We waited about 25 min to get a spot. The staff is very friendly & responsive to your needs. We ordered many items off the menu & did a smorgasbord type of meal. Every dish was excellent. The plating, presentation & service was top notch.I started coming to Rossoti's in 1976 when I was 12 years old with my parents. We would get some food & go watch the soccer being played in the soccer field. This was my first time back in over 30 years. It brought back so many great memories. I'm happy to say this was another great experience.I highly recommend you stop by this restaurant if your anywhere near Interstate Highway 280 & the Portola Valley Exit. It's a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon during a day trip.Bon appetit!”

“The food was cooked to perfection, as we both had the chicken breast entree. What made the evening awkward was that after we finished the main course, my guest asked for the Dessert Menu and ordered ice cream. Please remember that they have a 2-hour window in place. We were seated at the assigned time (5:30PM) which should have allowed us to leave at 7:30PM. At approximately 6:55PM, she noticed that our waiter walked through the dining area and specifically looked at our table. This went on for several minutes, with each time looking at her ice cream and what was left of my chicken. He did place both of our leftovers in 2-go boxes. He must have circled the dining room 4-5 times, as he had another couple waiting. We finally left the restaurant at 7:15PM.”

“My new favorite sushi spot! I've come here about once a week for the past month and a half or so for lunch and it never disappoints. Food always comes out quickly, hot and tasty. I really enjoy their Deluxe Bento Box. Chicken teriyaki, rice, sashimi, salad, miso soup and tempura! And the price is great! Not to mention the service! They are always very polite, friendly and accommodating of me and my dog when we come. They have some outdoor seating for those nicer weather days. And if you sit inside it is cozy as well. Highly recommend this spot to anyone who's looking for a reasonably priced sushi spot that does not sacrifice quality.”

“Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Wakuriya in San Mateo, and I must say, the experience was quite remarkable. From the moment I stepped in, the serene and welcoming ambiance set the stage for what was an exquisite culinary journey. The service at Wakuriya was impeccable. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. Each course of the kaiseki menu was presented beautifully, showcasing a blend of traditional Japanese culinary artistry with subtle Californian influences. The highlights for me were the braised sea bass with its delicate yuzu gelee and the perfectly cooked Wagyu beef, which was both tender and flavorful. However, while the food and service were exceptional, I have some reservations about its Michelin star status. The quality and presentation were top-notch, but I felt that the overall experience, while delightful, did not fully align with other Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve visited in terms of creativity and culinary innovation.Additionally, considering the price point, I found Wakuriya to be slightly overpriced. While I understand and appreciate the quality of ingredients and the skill involved in preparing such dishes, the cost seemed a bit steep when weighed against the overall dining experience. In conclusion, Wakuriya is undoubtedly a great restaurant that I would recommend for those seeking high-quality Japanese cuisine in San Mateo. The serene atmosphere and meticulously prepared dishes make for a memorable dining experience. However, if you’re looking for a Michelin star-level experience, you might want to temper your expectations slightly, especially considering the price. Nonetheless, Wakuriya remains a gem in San Mateo’s culinary scene, and I am glad to have experienced its offerings.”

“Ideally I would have to say I would give Robin a 3.5 stars. Upon arriving to the restaurant, it was storming outside and there were no signs for us to find the place. When we entered, we got greeted by friendly staff members and got seated. I think what makes Robin a bit more unique compared to other omakase places is that you can choose your own price range and the chefs accommodate with what you had picked, but in my opinion I would have preferred them to give a set price to choose from. Inside of the restaurant was beautiful, I loved the interior design, but if you're looking for a quiet/intimate omakase experience this is not the place for that. Music is pretty loud and the parties around us were talking with their outside voice , which I didn't mind because like I mentioned the vibes at Robin is definitely more casual. In terms of the quality of food, I would have to say, while everything was super fresh and good, nothing stood out to me. On top of that, every omakase I've been to so far, I would have been full 80% in but we left Robin still hungry. Our total came out to be $470, and I would have expected to leave full. I wished they had taken out the potato chip nigiri and the noodle dish, because I would have preferred to receive more fish. The nigiri that was part of the courses was super small, and as I mentioned, while everything was good, I was not amazed. Still highly recommend if you've never experienced omakase before, only tip is to book at the bar seating bc you'll get the full experience that way.”

We indulged in their unique dishes, each one a delightful fusion of California freshness and traditional Indian flavors. The Signature Plate was a true highlight, Cast Iron "Monkey Buns" served with Butter and Spiced Eggplant Chutney were a revelation - fluffy, savory buns paired with a tangy and aromatic chutney that left us craving for more. For mains, the Kabocha & Green Mango Curry with Ghee Rice was a standout dish, perfectly balancing sweetness with subtle spiciness, while the tender coconut dessert provided a refreshing and satisfying conclusion to our meal. Not only was the food exceptional, but the service was also impeccable. The staff at Ettan ensured that every aspect of our dining experience was flawless, making us feel truly pampered and special.Overall, Ettan exceeded our expectations and made our special occasion truly memorable. “This spot, operating since 1974, has become our go to for a superb dinner out. My wife and I start with a glass of our fav La Crema Chardonnay. We love the unlimited warm bread and butter. We share the Crisp Caesar Salad-the best we have ever tasted. The water service is non stop to make sure our glasses are full. We each order the 7 oz Prime Filet Mignon with a baked potato with butter on the side. The broccoli and carrots are fresh and so tasty. The service is always 5 star and last night was no exception, in fact, Jeff who was our server is the epitome of the perfect server. He has been there for 20 years and knows the menu backwards and forwards. We always have a problem deciding how to order our steaks wherever we go since all chefs and cooking scales vary. We explained to Jeff we just wanted our steaks with a little bit of pink and he told us he would take it from there because he works with the chef and tells him by color, how we would like our steaks served. And voila, they were exactly the way we ordered. Thank you Jeff for making our most recent visit another Sundance memory. Stu and Barbara G.”

I enjoy sitting at the Chef's Counter to watch these professionals at work. The service is quick and consistent (in my experience); they have a lot of staff and they know what they are doing. The dishes are small and the bill mounts up in a hurry. That works well for me; I like the variety and I do not need large quantities. But be prepared for that. “A lil pricey for a sandwich but very good stuff. Nice fresh sourdough; the bread was soft and had a nice slight crunch to it. The original (ham and turkey) was tasty and came with cheese. I saved half for the next day and it was still delicious. Somehow even better when cold. The crust sourdough dip with warm au jus (roast beef) was amazing. The roast beef was so tender! It was worth it. I also really enjoyed the bacon jam; I didn't know what to expect but I enjoyed the bit of sweetness and caramelized onions in it. Really solid! The bread also held up nicely when dipped into the au jus. The cookies are not too bad; I tried the lemon and it smelled great. Taste was good too but unfortunately it was a lemon cookie with coconut shavings inside (which was not mentioned) and I'm not the biggest fan of coconut! The interior is nice and spacious. They are located in an office space.”

Despite being open for just two months, it transports you to a beautiful waterfront, reminiscent of the Mediterranean or Miami, where the view alone can take your breath away. Not many places like this exist in the Bay area. The food is delightful, offering flavorful dishes alongside non-alcoholic options, which we greatly appreciated. The service is friendly and inviting. Even without a reservation, we found ourselves comfortably seated at the bar, where we could enjoy the full menu.We kicked it off with the sashimi starter, which was unexpectedly delicious, featuring a subtle complexity over slightly fried rice, giving it a unique twist. The pork chop was tender, perfectly cooked, and accompanied by a sauce rich in flavors with mushrooms, onions, and vegetables. The side dish of marble potatoes with parmigiana and horse radish, and wild mushrooms with ponzu-like sauce was also a standout. An added bonus was the yacht club located above the restaurant, offering stunning views of the marina and bay. We're definitely planning a return visit and highly recommend Hurrica to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.”
