Glad this place survived the pandemic however it’s to go only which is totally fine. Food is great good portions and price is still good. Love the mom and pop vibe.

Awesome lunch place. Owners are super nice and the food is exactly what I want out of a casual lunch. They give generous portions for the teriyaki and it’s all freshly made and comes with a nice side salad.

Hard to find old school mom and pop Japanese food these days more so that serves proper katsu! Katsu curry brings me back growing up in Japan so nostalgic taste. I’m so glad I found this place.Parking: Small complex with limited parking spaces during normal business hours.

Can’t give a real review since I showed up during business hours and turns out they close up a half hour earlier now (1:30pm) but didn’t update. Also says takeout only now

This is a gem of a spot for a simple menu of Japanese comfort food. My wife and I mainly get the salmon teriyaki, bento box, pork or chicken katsu curry. I do wish post covid we could dine here because the atmosphere seems great. I can also understand that takeout is a simpler business for the could who run this business together. Reminds me of some mom and pop restaurants my wife and I would frequent back home in Toronto. Great prices and generous portions.Parking: Right in front, or across the street if it's full.

Delicious Japanese food tucked away in a tiny plaza with very limited parking. Both the bento special and katsu curry came with a ton of rice. The bento was really filling but I’d try something else next time. Super nice lady working the front!

This place is the BEST Japanese food in the Bay Area! They serve the most amazing rice consistently. Every time we take out, we always drive home with excitement and have never been disappointed! The curry is delicious, katsu is perfect and salmon teriyaki is just the right taste. I especially love their salad dressing, it’s got the right balance of sweet and tangy. The mom n pop shop is such a gem and a personal favorite.

Diner Japonica transitioned to take out only and really focuses on bento boxes, donburi and Japanese curries. Their simple and affordable menu while not fancy is exactly what it's advertised to be--Japanese comfort food. I love their salmon teriyaki, shrimp katsu and sashimi bento. It comes with a small side salad, rice and Japanese potato salad. It was pouring rain today and I called in the order which only took 15 minutes to prepare and was totally satisfied. Again, don't expect it to be fancy but it delivers that simple Japanese comfort food I often crave.

Incredible basic (in a good sense) japanese food. And lovely old couple who run the shop

Ordered the bentos so can only comment on them. Very good portions, katsu was lightly breaded so it was mostly meat. The beef teriyaki is more steak like instead of the thinner slices most Japanese places offer. Came with a potato salad and a typical lettuce salad with sauce. Everything was well flavored and would definitely order from here again.

I really want to support local businesses and was excited to try the spot. Unfortunately it was a bit of a letdown. 1) eel Unagi - $22. You really have to like you to get this dish. I felt that the eel was a bit too fishy, but maybe it's more of a preference than anything else. 2) Tonkatsu - $14. Portions were very generous and this is a good dish. The pork cutlets were cut in very thick slices and it was a bit chewy and fatty. I wish the pork was more tender. Had leftovers the next day and after heating in microwave, the pork was a bit more tender. Last but not least the dipping sauce on the Tonkatsu was subpar - bland and salty.

This is currently still a takeout only place but one that deserves a visit if you are in the mood for some comfort Japanese food. So the portions are generous, all of the food are reasonably priced, and everything's super tasty. I just wish it was closer - would be stopping here way more often instead of just a random pit stop on the way to somewhere else.

This is hands down one of our go-to places for takeout! Why we love it: 1. Food - Delicious, authentic Japanese food. We always get the three item bento boxes, though I enjoyed my curry tonkatsu as well, the bento has more variety. We tend to avoid Chicken Teriyaki unless we need something for our toddler, but their teriyaki tastes more authentic with a thinner sauce than the thick, overly sweet one that can taste "americanized". *Would not recommend this place if you're looking for various rolls (go to Sushi Plus), just sashimi, an upscale / sit-down experience, etc. 2. Value - Huge portions for reasonable prices -- better rates than nearby Sushi Plus (which we also enjoy) and other places we've gone to. We end up paying about $40-45 for two huge bento boxes which can last us+ toddler 1-2 meals. 3. Easy - Call ahead for pick up - they've closed indoor seating due to COVID. Staff is super friendly. I would recommend reviewing the menus online in advance and knowing your exact order. They default to zero tip == the only place to do so! == and ask you to enter the payment amount yourself via Stripe, with convenient access to hand sanitizer. Tips: Please note that parking in this lot is horrible, so I recommend parking across the street in the business lot. I also have had zero luck calling in on Wednesdays, so I'd check their business days / hours (Yelp! says they're open Wed).
