For the second year in a row, Vegetarian DJ chose to go to a German restaurant for his birthday on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, to eat bratwurst and drink a couple of pints of beer. This year, we went to Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City. Located in downtown, we easily found the restaurant, but were surprised that no customer parking was allowed for patrons as the lot is reserved strictly for the neighouring business office. No worries, though - we immediately found street parking across the street. We arrived at around 8 PM. Self-seating either in the two front patios, the bar inside, or the indoors dining room. We opted for a table inside at the front corner. The decor inside the venue definitely reminded me Germany. The menu is quite limited, focusing on various Bratwurst offerings and Schnitzel-based dishes. This is definitely not a place for strict vegetarians and vegans to grab a full meal. Very little to almost no vegetables served here, unfortunately. In addition to DJ's two pints of beer and V's Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Juice, below are the food items that we ordered: Bavarian Pretzel With Salami and Cheese, $14 - V found the Cheese to be "strong," but he liked it. The Pretzel was soft and warm. Bavarian Pretzel With Obatzda (Camembert Dip), $14 - The Camembert Dip looked scarily spicy, thick, and rich to me. To my pleasant surprise, it was lighter in taste and texture than I expected. FLAMMKUCHEN (FLATBREAD), $13 - Customized to replace the AVOCADO SLICES with extra BACON. Perhaps the original amount of bacon is skimpy because with the supposed extra amount, the tomatoes of the SALSA FRESCA still seemed to outnumber the bacon pieces. Otherwise, V enjoyed this pizza-like dish. Brat in a Bun (Smoked), $11 - Good, but I have had a much more tasty Bratwurst elsewhere, so was kind of wanting a bit more flavour. The amount of Sauerkraut could have been more generous, too. Brat in a Bun (Bockwurst), $11 - DJ fully enjoyed this. I found the Bockwurst more bland than the Smoked. Side of Potato Salad, $5 - For the price, the serving is tiny. DJ still liked it, but found the spicy pickles a bit odd. Pommes Frites (Fries), Large, $8 - Served golden, fresh and hot, but could have been crispier. VANILLA GELATO - These were pre-scooped into disposable cups that you could take to go. No complaints from the kids, but Z notice that although the ice cream was at the rim of the cups, there was empty space at the bottom. Heads up - Other than the few ice cream desserts offered in the GHS Specials, no other sweets are offered unless it's Thursday when they have a few cakes or baked goods. Oh, and water is self-serve. No likey. Service was quick and friendly. We were bummed that the store was closed during our visit. DJ enjoyed his birthday dinner here. He will likely to return for some boots of beer.

Two visits about a decade apart; I am a regular! I have nothing bad to say-service is good and prompt, food fresh and hot...had an outstanding draft German Pilsner last weekend. It had been a very long time since I had a draft German beer. Lesson for me? Take a break from the strong CA IPAs once in awhile. :)

Food is good, even better after a couple beers. It’s been better in the past, they have room to improve but I expect it’s difficult to prioritize the menu when so much effort goes into the outstanding beer selections. One of the best in the bay. Their line-ups for SF beer week were incredible.Service is full of personality. From the business minded Karen who knows how to up-sell so watch out, to “HELL YEAH” Allen who rewards every selection you make with great enthusiasm, this crew is fun. Let’s not forget the guys in the shop, they keep it stocked with the dankest imported Haribos, freshest IPA’s, and an ever expanding selection of quality spirits and other German snacks.Atmosphere is a melting pot of customers, I’ve never had a bad time when visiting. I assume the knuckle-heads find a way to keep themselves off the premises by being stuck-up about them not having standard bar beers, or non-german-ish food, or requiring you to walk around back if you try to bring your dog through the front. I’ve seen it live. Some people are like “oh sure, no worries”, and others just lose their mind and blow up, yelling and cursing at the staff. I mean if they want to wait for them to literally remove all the food from the store (couple hours) I guess they could accommodate haha.Overall, this place is great if you’re cool. If you’re a jerk, you’ll hate it.

Staff told me to walk around the block to enter while I’m on crutches bc I had a very small dog that wasn’t allowed the 10 steps it takes to get to the patio from the street. These guys are ridiculous.

Local beer garden with plenty of options. I wish they could expand the food menu and have more specialty dishes, but it is not bad for group gatherings. If you go there a few times, you probably would be bored of the options.Parking could be tricky and I never understand what the empty parking lot they have at the back is for.

I'm a bit sad. After being to Germany a few times and also very recently I was super hyped to try this place. The pretzel is the best I've ever had.Sadly the brats were not. I got a plate with 3 brats, one smoked, one Bavarian and one Bockwurst (white). Only the Bavarian was ok. The smoked was very greasy and nor flavorful and the Bockwurst was completely flavorless. The curry sauce is not the standard curry sauce from Berlin. It is very spicy. The pickle pieces and the emmental cheese dip was a nice touch.
