Very tasty and authentic Japanese food. Our favourite place to get sushi in the peninsula.

Been coming to Higuma since the original owner and the place has certainly gotten better with the new owner. Food and the decor are much better now, but as a result the place is even busier than before. Totally worth the visit, just once or many more times.

Great value Japanese restaurant hidden along El Camino away from downtown Redwood city. Everything we ordered here was quite good, and the staff were very polite!

What a sweet little place. Great sushi for the price, which is not to diminish the quality and expertise of the chefs. The rice is perfectly sweet and the fish is fresh. Everyone always greets me even though I’m just getting the take out. Highly recommend!

Unassuming sushi spot with amazing variety and prices. We just discovered this place after living close by for many years. It has now become a regular part of our restaurant rotation. We had a great experience with the service as well.

This was one of the best Japanese food and experience that we had for a long time. The service is very friendly, the food delicious, the quality of everything very high. We loved every dish.

Ah, the sushi spot of my teenage years... I've been to Higuma many times. And always left happy. However, I have also subsequently been to Japan many times, as well as Sushi Shin, and unfortunately decent sushi isn't getting 4 stars. Not to dissuade any visitors because if you just want accessible and reasonable sushi, this place is fine. If you want a real taste of Japan, eh, no. Not the spot. I mean they have ramen and curry on the menu. Ever hear "jack of all trades, master of none"? This is that. You cannot be a super legit sushi restaurant AND a legit ramen spot AND make good curry. And they have teriyaki which most people know isn't authentic at all. So yeah if you want to try decent versions of Japanese foods it's fine. Hence the rating. Oh and parking SUCKS. It's on El Camino at a busy area. Good luck!

Why would anyone eat sushi anywhere else in Redwood City? In the Bay Area? If you want fresh fish, tons of options, and a knowledgeable staff without all the stuffiness of an omakase place, then this is the place to go. Even if you like a stuffy omakase, then this is still the place to go. They also have fancy bidets in their bathrooms!

Honestly my favorite Sushi restaurant on the peninsula. Love the small quiet vibe that the inside offers and happy that they added the patio to accommodate larger groups. Love that you can see the chef prepare your order at the bar and they have specials that actually change from week to week. I have been coming here for years and the wait staff has been consistently pleasant and part of the reason I keep coming back. I always order the sashimi chirashi bowl or the Omakase Sashimi if I feel like treating myself. Both offer a wide selection of fresh sashimi. Love to pick a few items from their specials as well. Can you ever go wrong with Toro tuna. Just amazing!

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. But we had a horrible experience today. It was ridiculous amount of wait because they couldn’t figure out how to sit people efficiently and at the end we left after an hour wait. Very disappointing!

Wow, we walked out of Higuma tonight highly disappointed... what a terrible and rude experience. My husband and two young children (2 and 3 years old boys) arrived a little before 7pm- and were initially greeted without a 'hello' or 'welcome' but a very cold "do you have a reservation" despite half of the restaurant having open tables. After being seated on the patio and waiting nearly 10 minutes for water and menus, we told our very rushed and unfriendly server that we were ready to order right away (as one knows with young children- best to order quick and eat quick and get out of there)- but after we ordered two appetizers, she said she would be back soon. When she came back to get the remainder of our order, my husband was intending to order many sushi rolls and I had just ordered the combination box and told her that our kids were going to share with us, but we were rudely told that every person needed to hit an $18 minimum- TODDLERS INCLUDED. Despite being thrown off with how rude this was and it was also posted no where on their menu- we told our server that we'd likely hit that minimum between our appetizers and entree and sushi rolls but that our boys would simply be sharing with us. She was very rude and made it clear this would not work.... When I kindly asked her to please talk to her manager or have them talk to us (having worked restaurant world for many years myself- I had only assumed that a small family spending $65-70 without a generous tip would surely be welcomed)... but the manager had the server return with a very curt "everyone must meet the $18 minimum, you can order more food for takeout". We were flabberghasted. Luckily this type of experience has never happened to us before- it felt as though we were being discriminated against because we had young children (who had also had been very pleasant and well behaved for this whole 15minute terrible experience).... I think we were a little bit shocked, but within a minute or two of processing how rude this was, we picked up our boys and left before anything ruder could happen. We are truly disappointed with this less than one star experience, and would strongly urge any families with young children to NEVER step foot in this place. What a rude server, manager, and policy (which should also probably be posted for future restaurant goers). Shame on you, Higuma.

We just walked out if this restaurant because we are a family of 3. And they wanted us to eat on a table of 2 with an extra chair against the wall. I get the restaurant is small but there was a family of 3 eating already at a table of 4. Furthermore there were 4 extra empty tables in the patio and 3 "reserved" tables inside. I could not believe the waiter asked us to leave because we refused to seat at a table of 2. The worst part is that we are regular costumers. Before and through the pandemia! I am upset I wanted my comfort food. I don't think I can ever go again.

We ordered Omakase and the fish was really good. Fresh, well prepared although a little smaller in size. We reserved a table yet was assigned a sushi bar counter which worked out well for us. The service was a bit disorganized as we were served some appetizers that we didn't order. That's why a 4 star rating. The restaurant was busy till 8:30 pm on Friday.

Very good food in a very cozy and fun atmosphere. The nigiri is pretty good and fresh, and the rolls, small plates and appetizers are delicious. Definitely try a couple of the more fun rolls here.Parking: Very small parking lot
