I have ordered from Redwood Bistro on a weekly basis for months. It never fails to impress. However, it’s important to be aware that they do not accommodate certain intolerances, particularly gluten.

Lovely place. Only complaint was that the wonton chips were very stale but maybe it’s because I went an hour before closing. Shanghai noodles are okay but not enough curry, flavor, or sauce. I HIGHLY recommend the red wood city glazed tofu. It tasted like French toast and was sooo filling and amazing I’d come back just for that alone.

The food was so so good! We got the spicy noodle soup, pork short ribs, and the jiang bing guo zi. It was a lot for two people but we still housed it because it was so good.

Excellent spot with great choices for vegetarians. I usually get the Redwood glazed tofu, the diced pepper eggplant and Mapo tofu. Portions are massive and prices are great too! Can't wait to try some of the other choices. Highly recommended!

Extremely accommodating, yet also safe during covid. They served one of the best hot and sour soups I have ever had, and the spicy noodle soup was the perfect combination of that unique, numbing, tingling spice and flavor- highly recommend ordering this when you go. In addition, the mapo tofu and Szechuan eggplant were perfectly done. I'm ashamed to admit I've never been here before despite living in Redwood City for 3 years, but it is now certainly my go-to authentic Chinese restaurant.

I did takeout for general tso chicken which was very good but almost tasted like orange chicken. I also had dry sauteed beef which is OK, it's similar to beef jerky.

Always looking for a good Chinese restaurant to get takeout from, so today I came from San Mateo to Redwood City in hopes of picking some up. To my disappointment, the food was pretty bland. The chicken fried rice was white in color and pretty flavorless, the chicken chow mein was flavorless as well. Service was good though, but I wouldn't come here again to waste my money.

Came here for lunch, and was impressed by how fast the service was and how much food was in the lunch special. We each got a lunch special, which offers an entree with white or fried rice, soup, and a spring roll for around $10-11. I got the orange beef, which was super crispy and tasty. My best friend got the honey walnut prawns, which were okay but a bit heavy on the breading. We also got an order of the pan-fried dumplings (~$8), which were AMAZING. They had thick doughy skins and were very juicy and hot and satisfying inside. We were in and out within the hour and our food came quickly.

Holy salt batman!... I wanted to like this place, and I got super excited reading all the great reviews so maybe I came on an off night, but everything was just so ungodly salty... But alas, we swung in Sunday evening and hangry me ordered 5 dishes, and was super excited a fried rice / chow mein came free. Upon pickup, food was prepared quickly, packaged super well considering we ordered enough food for 6 people, and staff were friendly and followed covid protocols. What we ordered: 1. Original spicy noodle soup. The best of this bunch. I wished it had more heat tho. I didn't find this spicy at all. But the noodles were cooked perfectly. Nice and chewy. 2. Fried fish fillets in salted egg yolk. SUPER SALTY. But lightly breaded and cooked perfectly tho. But the saltiest of the bunch. 3. Honey walnut prawns. These were actually kind of weird to us. We weren't expecting them to be thickly breaded and fried. More of a sauteed prawns with sauce tossed over them dish. These were also horribly overcooked and dry. It has been years since I've ordered this dish so maybe we're just remembering it differently. 4. Redwood original glazed ribs. Also very dry. Not much glaze to them either. No salt issues tho. 5. Dry sauteed string beans. These were good. Cooked perfectly too. 6. Free fried rice. Large amount for a free dish so that was nice. This was good adding a fried egg on top and lots of hot sauce. Overall, I think they have potential. Cut back on the salt and try undercooking the food a tad for pick up orders since it'll continue cooking in the boxes? Or maybe this was just my bad luck cuz I came towards the end of the night... But I really hope they address the salt issue so I can come back.
