We didn't actually get to eat here tonight after paying for parking. We brought our 2 kids with us about 40 mins before closing and they said they were too busy to seat us. I saw 3 open tables so we were very annoyed. She first looked at us with our kids and said she had to talk to her manager.... Seems like they aren't a very kid friendly location so be prepared for that..

Boy this Waterboy restaurant is good...:) Today was my third time coming to Waterboy The more we come here the more we like it, Today we had no reservations and my hope was to get seated at the bar area, because when I called they were fully committed... But magically when we arrived the manager made it happen and got us a table with in five minutes... Service is great, staff is very professional... Food is great, best oysters in town... the menu is also farm to fork style and good variety to choose from. The halibut special is amazing to taste & quality is superb. Desert menu is also a cherry on top. We are really happy Waterboy was right there for our Friday night outing. We can't wait to be back for those oysters! Ooh yea and don't forget to order affogato :)

I will start by saying I love the Waterboy so I hate to give them a less than stellar review. We ordered take-out last week. Drove down and picked it up. When I got home there was only one salad and we had ordered and paid for two. At least there was a pistachio blondie in there which we hadn't ordered. The entrees were delicious but the portions were so small. The $38 scallop entree had two scallops. They were outstanding but two medium scallops seems ridiculous. I had the duck breast which was also perfect but maybe one third cup of the cous cous. All of our entrees were really really good, just very small portions.

I was overall unhappy with this restaurant and do not plan to go back. Out of five dishes ordered only one was amazing and worth the money - the beet salad. Potato leek chilled soup: good but nothing special and would have been better warm but it was a hot day. Have made better potato leek soup myself at home. Melon prosciutto salad: not good - almost inedible. Too much prosciutto and wanted to get the taste out my mouth. Pickled beet salad: AMAZING!!! Wish this was only dish we ordered. Veal sweetbreads - good flavor with the mushrooms and marsala - many meat lovers would probably enjoy this altho i found it hard to eat the meat and the smell of the veal was offputting to me. Sea scallops -- INEDIBLE!! So fishy and disgusting and soft and wet mush! Had to spit it out - almost barfed at the table from it and had to eat/drink something else to get taste out of my mouth. Me and my mom were not able to eat it. It seemed they served us old scallops for $40. Worst purchase of my life. Honestly should have complained due to the fact they were so fishy I had to spit it out and I usually LOVE scallops!! Due to this dish I will never go back and will tell everyone I know how bad it was and to pick a different restaurant... sorry Waterboy you just suck.


We went for lunch to celebrate both of our birthdays. What a good choice! We found the The Waterboy to be an excellent place to have our special meal. The food and presentation was top. The ambience and service was warm and friendly. The decor modern, light and airy. It worked great for us .

Sat on the nice patio and had an enjoyable dinner! The cocktails we started with were great. Got the half dozen oysters which were good but not phenomenal. Our party also had the steak tartare, melon and prosciutto, scallops, and steak. All good, but a bit pricey for what it was. Great service otherwise, and would consider returning, but maybe check the menu first to see if there are more interesting items in season.


After wedding ceremony in Sacrament, we try at the first visit. It’s delicious and very happy for our choice!

My Husband and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary with The Waterboy and it was the perfect night out. The service is top notch. The food is always over the top delicious yet still comforting. Their deviled eggs are extremely creamy and fresh. They have the best fried Chicken we’ve ever had. You could close your eyes and basically pick anything on the menu and be totally happy, I don’t think I can say that about any other place. They also were mindful on timing due to us having a little one at home. We first dined here a few times pre pandemic and we received takeout a few times during the pandemic which was just as incredible as eating there. If you are in the Sacramento area I definitely recommend eating here.

Great service and nice atmosphere. Food is well presented and delicious drinks. We tried many dishes that were great. Risotto was just ok (personal taste).

We visited The Waterboy for dinner. The staff were kind and attentive. The focaccia was very flavorful and the Minestrone with Basil Pesto was phenomenal. We ordered the bouillabaisse seafood special and Risotto. The bouillabaisse was great. The risotto was a little onion-forward, which subtracted slightly from the delicate flavor of the saffron, but was perfectly cooked. The fruit crostata was phenomenal. Our next visit to Sac will include a return to The Waterboy.

Wife wanted bubbles and oysters so we walked on over, we didn't have a reservation, but the hostess was super nice, we waited a few moments and were able to get seats at the bar. The oysters were perfect, we also had a few small plates that were delicious, the bartender and the rest of our drinks were fantastic, and you can't leave without trying one of their desserts. Superb, all around.

Alas the Waterboy has sprinted out of the gate in re-opening. No missteps in ingredients, plating or service. Makes contrarian review very difficult. Their farm to fork supply chain includes but not limited to Soil Born produce. Will still root for Moxy and other contrarian venues but Waterboy has serves notice they are fully prepared for any challenger new or long standing.

Can't believe this place has been here over 20 years and I never knew about it. I have been missing out. There is a swerved on the menu that I would've never have ordered but fortunately the friendly couples sorting next to us recommended it and it was amazing. Make sure to get the bread to sop up the yummy juices. Ordered the scallops and duck confit ravioli and was the best. We will be back. The food smelled so good and tasted so good that I forgot picture until the end.

It was okay. I love to give 5 star reviews but can't this time.Positives are a beautiful evening outside at sundown, people walking and riding bikes and scooters around. Just great atmosphere in beautiful Sacramento! Deviled eggs for appetizer was good. Caesar salad was good. Salmon special was good. Dessert was good.Negatives - Vegetarians have a pretty limited selection. Server was a little weird, or wired. Just not the type I would expect to be serving me a $133.00 dollar meal (with no alcohol and before tip) She sort of reminds of a lady you'd see serving at the local Waffle Shop and her conversation was out there. Couldnt really follow her.Please make your own decision, I had heard good things about this place. As I look back on this review, the food and atmosphere was good. For some reason, I just left with the feeling that I probably won't be back if I have my choice of where to go downtown.

Steak sandwich was was nothing like I ate before, very original and tasty. Duck breast perfectly prepared, delicious. I would say gnocchi does not belong with duck breast, but this is just my opinion. The staff is great, very attentive and efficient. All in all, we loved the place.
