It’s hard writing this review. If Ozumo was a bar, I would give it 5 stars out of 5. The drinks are amazing, and the sake availability is better than many restaurants in SF.However, the food was so terrible that it completely ruined my experience. Japanese cuisine, Americanized, is just American raw fish with sauce. The food completely lost the Japanese culture emphasizing simplicity and natural flavor of top tier fish/meat/rice. My toro nigiri was not topped on sushi rice, and it didn’t even have a dash of wasabi in the center to help accentuate the flavor. The A5 wagyu was soaked in sauce that I couldn’t taste the tenderness of the wagyu itself. The nori didn’t smell of the ocean, and there was cheese sauce topped on shishito. The service was just as American and I had expected more from a restaurant advertising itself as Japanese in origin.

The food was amazing. Gyoza was great. The Bluefin Tuna Belly was exceptional and the cooked cod melted in your mouth. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly, provided good advice and was attentive but not hovering. Ozumo is definitely on our list of goto places in San Francisco.

the experience was just mehhh. Server took the order and never came back, we only saw him again to take our cards and get the tips. never got our water or tea refilled. they use farm raised fish for the sushi which I think it is not acceptable for the price you pay there. wouldnt come

Recently ate their last week and thought food was good. We spent spent a hundred dollars a person and to our astonishment saw a rat in the restaurant next to our table which the waitress saw too. Offered no discount and was even charged a health and safety fee of 6% on the total meal. Definitely not happy about

Came here for dinner and had a very nice experience. The fish was good quality and very fresh. We stuck to the traditional nigiri sushi for our main corse, the chutoro being our favorite. The kinko mushrooms and hanabi were nice appetizers also.

How do you mark a place 5 stars when you had a mouse running around your table at dinner - yes a mouse. Attempts to catch it did not work. Food great / service slow as we got there at prime time.

I had an unexpected wonderful experience. Service from the top down was excellent. Happy hour was great, dinner was great, and service was great. I had the black cod and it was awesome. Additionally I had this amazing strawberry dessert with pistachio which was absolutely delicious and everyone should try it. This restaurant is great and you definitely should give it a try. Needless to say the sushi is fantastic as well.

Our first priority on return to San Francisco! Got an early seating and had a long relaxed dinner. This is a busy restaurant, but our table was fine and service was superb. We started our meal with the Hanabi appetizer, featuring sliced Hachimi, avocado, shredded daikon, and leeks, poured with warm ginger-chili ponzu. The flavors were a delight, offering a perfect balance of freshness and warmth. We paired that with the 49er roll (respectful) also delicious. The premium sushi platter is expensive, but includes Chutoro and Otoro, premium bluefin tuna belly cuts, a Hokkaido Uni negiri and a sashimi plate to follow, finished with a tray of Unagi! Yes we had a premium Sake, but they have a wide selection available. We also had a bit of the waygu negiri. The quality of the fish was outstanding, and everything was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Some of the best I have been able to find in the States.Overall, wonderful! Service impeccable! Can be expensive but worth the cost for a special occasion.

Great food, except one party at my table didn't ever really get their dinner and ended up having to take it to go. This was taken off our bill, but pretty embarrassing for me as I was the one who booked the place.

This spot offers a vast space divided into a front bar and back dining area, each with its own vibe—take a peek to see which you prefer. The menu is expansive, now featuring ramen and a unique bento box for lunch. While the food is great, it's on the pricier side. Perfect for business lunches or dinners.

We came here for a business lunch. Not only did they have plenty of space for our group, but they have multiple dining areas that have totally different vibes! We chose to sit in the bar area, which ironically was much quieter!! The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent!!
