All in, 4*sThe food was good don’t worry. But it wasn’t as exceptional as I’d thought it’d be. Maybe I’m being harsh by taking a star away for the appetizer(Katsu), but the sushi rolls were fantastic. We had the Boddy and soul (5* Must try) and the surprise ending (which literally comes with suspense) - I won, it was fun!Boddy and soul was exceptional, the service was amazing, and so were the vibes.Recommended?: Yes!

I don't know if I just didn't nail my choices but I didn't think it was 5 stars. Maybe I expected more due to the excitement of having vegan sushi. Anyway, I thought it was ok food but not mind blowing. Flavors a bit muddled.

Don’t let the description fool you, although this place is vegan, you won’t miss the meat. Veggie forward rolls dazzle as you enjoy the intimate space that is Shizen. The service was excellent (although we were missing 1 item we ordered but were not charged so I don’t make it against them) and the atmosphere was minimalist yet elegant.We ordered a variety of starters, rolls, and specialty rolls. The highlights for us were the brussels sprouts, colonel’s pipe, and the tomato nigiri.Two things to note:- Reservations open only 1 week in advance so it can be tough to get your desired reservation date/time.- They are really strict on their allotted seating time. We weren’t even half way through our food and the server informed us we only had 30 min left on our reservation. They moved us to the sushi bar so we could finish our meal. A little inconvenient but we made the best of it.

After my meal at Shizen, I’m excited to return to SF and visit again. And I’m not even vegan! The experience felt like a normal sushi experience and I did not miss the fish.
Not ready to risk grubbing here with prior reviews on customer service. I can get my money back on distasteful food. Customer service is a critical experience. A make or break on returning.
