While the products are spectacular, the friendly service is even better (and to be honest, that's what's made me a loyal customer). I try to visit each and every Saturday (and once in a while on a Thursday), and the staff is unerringly attentive and immensely helpful. The building on stilts was built in 1898 but 40 years later it was not necessary for anyone. After the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge, traffic across the bay became irrelevant by water. The station was idle for several decades. But in the 1990s the public provided the reviving that turned Ferry Building into a gourmet center. With its opening in 2003 the ferry traffic was restored. One of my favorite places to visit, it's a place of comfort for me! And I don't even know why. It was my first time experiencing it in 2016, by myself at that. It was alive, filled with life, hustle and bustle, people doing their thing, shopping, sitting, eating, minding their own business, conversating, and more! It was just a great feeling.
