“Based off of previous reviews, my boyfriend and I were definitely hesitant to try this place.. but because it seems that there are no other Chinese skewer spots in the vicinity (Allie Daddy switched from skewers to sushi, and we didn't feel like driving all the way out to Fremont/Milpitas), we gave this place a shot. The menu is pretty light, so it makes it easier to decide what you want to eat. We ordered a little lighter since we weren't too sure of the place yet.Skewers:Beef Skewers ($4.99 for 3) - Good flavor! However, not consistently cooked... the first skewer my boyfriend tried was completely raw in the middle. The other two skewers were cooked a good medium rare. Lightly seasoned and a little sweet in comparison to most Chinese skewer spots that hurt throw on a ton of cumin. We notified the workers about the raw skewer and they recooked us a new batch, but overcooked it the best time to make sure it was fully cooked through -_- but it still had decent flavor and was still somewhat tender with a slight jerkier consistency..Pork Jowl ($4.99 for 3) - Cooked well. Fatty, large pieces. Solid choice.Lemongrass Chicken Wings ($9.99) - This dish threw me off. It came out looking like a xylophone sorted from biggest size chicken wing to the tiniest wing they could cook. And it looked absolutely NOTHING like the picture someone else posted of the same chicken wings (confirmed with the waitress that the picture was of the same order; just cooked differently). So weird. Tasted fine though. And they gave us 6 wings instead of 5, probably because the wings were so small.Cheese w/ Beef Pancake ($8.99) - THIS. This was good. So simple, yet comforting. Beef was tender, pancake was fluffy and crispy, yet glutinous. The only note is that it's a bit oily, so they could probably lay it on a paper towel to absorb some of that oil or something underneath, but otherwise I loved it.Personally, I'd come here again. But based on the reviews, that's probably because I didn't try their Thai food. Lol, the theme of Thai food confuses me for that place. Don't think I've ever been to a Chinese spot trying to be a Thai restaurant too. But safe to say that their Chinese representation of food worked for us. We did get a bubbly stomach shortly after though, heh, so be forewarned.Ambiance wise, it's a cute small, cozy spot.“
“One of my favorite new spots. Came here with some friends and we all had a great time and loved everything we ate. The place had a great vibe, nice lighting, good music. Lots of unique options on the menu, interesting cocktails and solid N/A options. The server we had was really nice. Would absolutely recommend the wings, crab rice, pork belly curry, drunken noodles (spicy!)... And really anything else. Everything we had was great (see photos). We will definitely be coming back ??“
“Recently tried out Bhan Mae Vane for the first time and I was very impressed! We opted for their pad see ew with tofu, nam kao (a crispy rice ball salad), Thai style papaya salad, and a Thai iced green tea and not only were the portions beyond generous, everything was also a delightful fusion of textures and flavors. Sure, parking might be a bit of a challenge with only street parking available, but I think it's worth the hassle. If you're in Alameda and craving Laotian/Thai cuisine with huge portions and friendly service, look no further!“
“Such a great restaurant! The food is absolutely amazing and the staff are all super friendly, courteous and efficient! Hats off to the kitchen, the staff, and the chefs! Pipi & May are fantastic!!! I highly recommend this restaurant if you love Thai cuisine!!! 5 stars ? ? ? ? ?“
“On this cold atmospheric rainy day, I'm glad I scored a parking spot right outside otherwise I might given up on trying this place. I'm glad the parking gods were with me today. It gave me the chance to try their Thai beef boat noodle soup. Omg it was perfect. The broth was a flavorful deep sweet soy sauce based broth with earthy spice undertones. The thinly sliced beef was tender. The noodles were al dente with a nice chew. Perfection in a bite. They had cute condiments but I didn't need to use anything. It was super tasty as it is. Anytime I'm in Alameda I'll definitely stop by for some great Thai food. A cute sweet Thai family runs this place.“
“Visited this local Lao spot on a friend’s recommendation and wow, it didn’t disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cozy and welcoming - exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood gem. The service was on point too; our server was super friendly, gave us great recommendations, and really knew their stuff. Now, let’s talk food because that’s the real star here. I went for the Pad Kee Mao, and it was absolutely delicious - spicy, flavorful, and just packed with all the good stuff. But the unexpected highlight? Their oysters! Affordable, fresh, and just so tasty, they were a total game-changer for me. It’s not often you find such quality at those prices.Overall, this place is a must-visit if you’re in the mood for some authentic Lao cuisine or just in search of a solid dining experience. Great food, great prices, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!“
“Best Thai food in the Bay Area. The Khao Soi soup is an explosion of flavor and so delicious. The way they package it to go, your soup and chicken stay hot and your crispy bits stay crispy it's magical. Every time family visits me here, I order from here. The staff is also incredible. I will continue to frequent this place regularly until I leave the Bay.“
“Great Thai restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Some of the dishes are outstanding. The Kha Moo was an excellent dish of Thai meets Chinese influence with meat that just melts in your mouth. The fresh spring rolls appetizer is not to be missed; delicious ingredients served with 2 well contrasting “
“food: WOW 10/10 the Mussamun Neur was so delicious. If you like peanuts and red curry this will blow your mind it's so tasty and flavorful! I ordered door dash takeout but I will definitely be dining in and having this to get the full experience :) I also ordered a side of wings and they are also super yummy no complaints at all! Once before I had their dessert roti with condensed milk and it was a sweet and tasty treat :)I cannot speak on service and ambiance but I will be returning soon and with company!“
“My friends and I were there last night for the first time and the food was DELICIOUS!! Interior is nice clean and neat. Service was on point we came home with a lot of leftover. They also have Fresh coconut juice which very fresh. Samosa was delicious.Spicy Catfish is a MUST to try.Mama Keemow was delicious Fresh Spring rolls was beautifully wrapped with sauces on the side. Lastly the dessert!! Mango Sticky rice and ice cream with Roti. We had a food coma afterward. I will be back to try some other dishes.“
“It's a welcome sight to see the original owners of the restaurant back! The husband is the waiter and the wife is the cook. I ordered the exotic herb salad and pad Thai. Both were authentic, flavorful, and simply delicious! It was takeout, so I didn't take photos.“
“Ordered lunch to go for three. Quick and courteous service. Excellent curries and pad Thai. A number of vegetarian options. The curried fish is incredible! Will definitely go again!Vegetarian options: A number of vegetarian dishes with vegetarian options on a few dishes, but not with the main curries.“
“Super fresh, good for a variety of eaters with different appetites. Very happy with my clay pot veggies, steamed to just tender and well seasoned/sauced. Service was a little scattered, but it might have been a busier lunch shift than normal.“
“We have been dining at Soi4 since it opened. Most recently we have been ordering takeout which is always good. We stopped in for dinner last night and found they had a fabulous happy hour menu. Extensive list of well balanced cocktails for $10, and small bites for $8. Everything was delicious and service and presentation were stellar. An enjoyable evening was had by all and we will definitely dine in more often!“
“The appetizers, mains, and deserts are all top notch here. As a "farang" who worked in Thailand, in large part because of my love of the food and culture, I am picky about my Thai spots. This one hits all the high notes. They can make anything American spiciness, but can also do "ped maak" for those of us that love true Thai spiciness. meat and veg dishes are equally delicious. Presentation is artful and the service is tremendous with the sweetest staff around. Whether you do noodles, meats, or veggies for the main, don't miss the fried bananas and coconut ice cream desert!“
“This is our first time at this place. The place has a good number of tables and clean.Servers are very friendly and attentive.Food is great! Especially love the Organic Special I had with brown rice. My partner's dish Khao Soi (beef curry noodles) was also tasty with enough spice to it.Will definitely return again.“
“Okay, I've had Thai food literally all over the world and this is the best I've ever had. Neighborhood is awful, but the restaurant itself the service amazing make up for it. I ordered The pad thai, the pad see ew, add a tie ice tea.“
“The owners of Farmhouse Kitchen also own Daughter Thai in Oakland's Montclair neighborhood. I've been to Daughter Thai more times, but when I went to Farmhouse Kitchen they had more or less the same menu and good service.Farmhouse Kitchen is in Jack London Square and they have a patio which has a view of the estuary.Their thai food is pretty authetic and flavorful.“
“My go to Thai restaurant just around the corner. All the dishes are excellent, the fresh flavors are just popping in your mouth. They spice their food Thai hot so be careful. I can handle a little bit of heat and medium is perfect. Really nice people. Sat down for the first time last Saturday on a rainy evening. Great service and I was surprised by all the locals eating in. Highly recommend.“
“I noticed this place was near a school I was working at for the day and decided to check it out. I placed my order and wanted to change the pick up to an earlier time so I called. The man on the phone said he could have it in 10 minutes. I was amazed by the great customer service. I arrived in 5 minutes and my order was ready by then. I ordered the Phad Pad Pak, steamed vegetables, and Thai iced tea. I messed up when I ordered it EXTRA Spicy. I love spicy food and thought to myself how spicy could it be. Boy was I wrong. My throat and mouth was on fire! I wanted to cry. The Phad Pad was delicious but I definitely should not have ordered it EXTRA spicy. I could not finish eating it because of how spicy it was lol I had to keep taking breaks from it and it felt like torture. The steamed veggies and Thai tea were also very good. Definitely recommend this place but don't ever order EXTRA Spicy !!!“
“Having tried many many thai restaurants in Berkeley and Oakland, Charm has become my go-to in the last year or so. The khao soi, duck noodle soup, and seafood pumpkin curry are a few of my favorites but everything I’ve tried here has been spot on. Service is excellent, food is delicious, and prices are good. There are also lots of vegetarian options that my girlfriend enjoys. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth stopping by.Vegetarian options: My vegetarian girlfriend loves the veggie menu here. They can also accommodate tofu substitutions for some dishes that aren’t labelled as vege.“
“Delicious food and great service. We ordered the Tom Kha soup, pumpkin curry and pad see ew. We were given large portions so nice for leftovers! The service was excellent very friendly and checking in on us periodically. We came before the dinner rush and loved having the space and staff attention.Vegetarian options: Most items you can choose your own protein including veggies or tofu“
“The food is very good, as are the prices. Duck curry is excellent, although they could be a tiny bit more generous with the duck. A sense of authentic Thai cuisine and culture right down to the seasoning and herbal tea leaves.Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options.Wheelchair accessibility: Door seems wide enough. No stairs. Some tables accessible from the doorway. It is a relatively small restaurant.“
“This place is a go to, open pretty late good food and nice sized portions. The service is always good and fast. Usual orders are duck noodle soup or chicken pad see ew. Duck soup is never to oily and seasoned well.Pad see ew is flavorful with lots of chicken and veggies, not too sweet or saucy.Parking: Free parking lot in the shopping centerWheelchair accessibility: Accessible and welcome“
“Consistent, tasty, and super fast and friendly service. If you’re looking for the classics of Thai street food, you’ll find them here. Not avant garde, just everything as you’d expect - which is great. Mild is mild, spicy is spicy. Vegetarian options: Likely anything can be made vegetarian aside from fried chicken.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp into the main dining area.“
“Our dining experience at Bangkok Garden last evening was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted by the warm smiles of the staff. They promptly escorted us to our table, where our orders were taken and served with remarkable efficiency. Accompanied by our two young children, who were exceptionally well-catered to, we indulged in a variety of dishes. The grilled chicken satay and the fresh spring rolls were the stars of the evening. It's certain that we will be returning for another memorable meal. Bangkok Garden comes highly recommended!“
“Visited with my family on a Tuesday night and surprisingly the restaurant was packed. We thought all the dishes tasted incredibly delicious and authentic, with the prices being reasonable. For appetizers, we indulged in curry puffs, satay chicken (served with peanut sauce), and fried spring rolls. Moving on to the entrees, we savored their rich and creamy yellow chicken curry, flavorful pad see ew with tofu, mild spicy fried rice, and the chef's recommendation— the Moo Dang dry noodle which turned out to be my favorite.Following our satisfying meal, our desserts arrived. We opted for the classic mango sticky rice and their Valentine's special dessert— strawberry mochi ice cream with strawberry whipped cream! Heaven for strawberry lovers. The service was very welcoming, attentive and friendly. The interior was full of beautiful Valentine's decorations, such as cute hearts! They even featured a love month menu with special drinks such as their Love Potion and Love is In The Air.In conclusion, I highly recommend this place. This restaurant gives cozy and lovely vibes, making it an ideal choice for a special Valentines day dining experience!“
“We used to LOVE Giin Thai on Shattuck, and these are the same people! We had the Khao soi, string beans, thom kha chicken and it was all so delicious. So happy to have found this place. Will definitely be coming back. ?Vegetarian options: Khao soi, egg plant, string beans, and moreParking: Their parking lot is small (8-10? spots), but we've always found a spot in it, and there is street parking too.“
“One of my favorite Thai restaurants to go to! This place has incredibly reasonable prices and food quality is really. Food portions are really big and they taste really good. I usually get BBQ Chicken Dinner. It comes with shrimp fried rice with their special sauce. The place is really nice too though they should start replacing old lightbulbs with new ones. It’s pretty dim here, but doesn’t really change the fact that this restaurant is good for eating. Staff are very friendly when they use simple greetings to say hi to customers.I honestly bet that everything there is good based on foods I had here. Definitely will come back for more!“
“We ordered from Sticky Rice last night on Door Dash and the food was absolute fire! So good. I had Thai sausage, samosas, and green curry with shrimp. Mama bear had drunken noodles and larb salad. We shared the mango sticky rice dessert. Ice cold jumbo Mexican cokes. 10/10. Reasonable prices, fast delivery, and fresh (super fresh) ingredients. Highly recommend. We're definitely going to eat from here again soon.Vegetarian options: Whatever kind of Lao/Mien/Cambodian food you like, they definitely crush it hard.“
“One of those hidden gems ?Best Thai food in Castro valley and big portions for a good price.Don't be thrown by the exterior, great place for a quick lunch or a quiet dinner date.Vegetarian options: Many choicesParking: A lot of parking in the rearWheelchair accessibility: Comfortably accessible“
“I ordered a chicken pad kea mao (drunken noodles) and it was really good although… they gave me pork instead of chicken. And I didn’t know about that until they came over to the table with the plate that had chicken. Thankfully I am able to eat pork but… be careful if you are not— ask twice to make sure you get the right dish. Otherwise, they were very accommodating to our very large group.“
“I can't do spicy. Had the Pad Ka Pow with minced pork. Extremely delicious! Like I said I can't do spicy. Server said it's about 1 on a scale 1 to 5. I'm just a big fat baby can't do it. My man had the Run Juan Seafood. He truly enjoyed it scale 1 to 5 it was a 10. I will definitely go back. Check them “
“The food was great and one of the best Thai places in the area. The ambience was great and the portion size was great as well. The flavors were authentic and the restaurant was vegetarian friendly.Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options. I tried pineapple fried rice and red curry, it was great“
“The food served to me was originally bprderline flavorless, so I had to send it back, which I seldom do. Thankfully, they added more sauce and sent it back out, but it's honestly a little worrying that they looked at my pale pad see ew and thought it was ok to serve. The chicken was also overcooked. :(I tried my friend's chili lemongrass fish and that was really good, so maybe just stray away from the bland pad see ew.On the other hand, while expensive, the drinks were really good. The lychee mojito was my favorite, but I have a lychee bias!Parking: There's parking right out front along University“
“I have been coming to this place for over 10 years and have never had an issue. The food always hits and it's pretty consistent, which is hard to find now a days. The customer service is always great and the owners are so sweet! Their lunch menu is such a good deal and the portions at dinner are perfect. Be aware that there isn't much parking right in front of the place and do NOT be that person who parks on the sideway like a dummy, there is parking on the side streets.“
“I'm not even kidding when I say the chicken on the BBQ chicken sandwich is the best chicken I've ever had on a sandwich ever. It was so juicy and the sandwich was incredible. I cannot wait to come back. I cannot recommend highly enough!“
“This is am eating establishment I'll have to go to a few more times. I'd been watching video recipes of Hainanese Chicken Rice and checking Yelp, I was excited to find this eatery close by my employer.can't remember if I first stopped by on a Tuesday or Wednesday and while it showed open, they were I'm facto closed. Decided to try the, on a Friday around noon. With the farmers market in full swing in Old Oakland, I made the 15 minute walk to What the Cluck. I'd ordered ahead and my food, in a bag was waiting for me. Another 15 minutes to get back to work and needless to say the food was no longer warm. Not the fault of What theCluck and I could have heated it an oven or microwave. Opening it, like the dish, worldwide, it's relatively unimpressive looking. Lots of white from the poached chicken to the rice and the light colored broth. Still was the flavor with the price? Overall, it was satisfying, the chicken was moist and flavorful, with a nice fluffed rice with notes of chicken fat. The broth was simple by tasty and accompanied the chicken rice nicely. I did use the chili dipping sauce p, which topped off Friday meal. Would I go back? Yup! I plan on returning for this same dish and a chance to try others.. This was something a bit different from the usual Asians hole the wall places I usually favor in Chinatown.“
“The food was ok first time going there and definitely trying a second time to see if it changes my mind to great. all restaurants have there bad days so I’m giving it a second chance server was nice and friendly and brought air water and drinks right away .“
“Food excellent as always Service superb Ambience excellent quite & calmVery clean & friendly Host on his jobEveryone niceThe food keeps me going backAlways freshTry the soupAlways get the papaya salad I prefer the green curry however all of its great!I love the hot teaMy husband live the icedMy favorite quite place“
“Ample veggie options. Quick service, good food. We didn't have to wait for seating. Ordered and got the food within ten minutes. The servers were nice and friendly, they were able to suggest alternatives for dietary restrictions. I'd like to go again and try some other items on the menu.Vegetarian options: You can ask the server and they will suggest alternatives for your dietary restrictions, including veggie options.“
“Went there for lunch. Had the barbecue beef salad, which was on a nice bed of fresh greens. Nice and crunchy. And the beef was well prepared and well flavored. The portions were generous without being overwhelming. The atmosphere is on the quiet side, so it's nice to have a conversation with your lunch partner, and the decor is understated and not distracting. The service was prompt and the food was good.“
“Very nice and welcoming staff!Ordered takeout on a slow night and felt very calm while waiting for my food.I had the pad see ew with pork and the spicy basil with chicken. Good amount of spice for me with an average spice tolerance palette. Lasted me two meals!“
“Great spot to get wonderful Thai food. The ginger salad is a MUST try, palate cleansing salad with fresh ginger strips, crunchy veggies topped off with nuts & a sweet dressing. The pad thai (beef) is also amazing with a sweet & tangy taste.“
“We love Pagargung Thai and have been coming here for almost 17 years. Their pad Thai is fantastic, the Pagarung prawns are the best item ever and their garlic pepper pork is a must. We've never been disappointed, and the price point is reasonable.“
“Good was YUMMY! I was eyeing the seared tuna salad... but that tuna tataki had the "main event" ingredients I was craving. Added a small green salad to create the effect I was looking for. Also had the soft shell crab. Two apps and a side made the perfect indulgent experience I was looking for.Plus my homie, the Rottweiler puppy, got to hang with me in the outdoor area too!“
“Hands down, the best Thai in Alameda, and has been for years. If I have had a good day, this is my go-to place. Service is fantastic , the prices can't be beat. If I've had a bad day, this is my go-to place. The fact that I can order online and it is on my way home from the ferry terminal is dangerous.“
“Good food and ambience. Service was a bit slow, we had to wait a while to even order drinks. By the time they came to take our drink orders, we ordered everything just in case service would continue to be slow. Food came out quickly though. We went for dinner and the place wasn't very full.“
“The food was fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary restrictions. I highly recommend it.Vegetarian options: They accommodate dietary restrictions. I am vegan, grand refined sugar free and they made me an amazing dish.Dietary restrictions: They accommodate dietary restrictions. I am vegan, grand refined sugar free and they made me an amazing dish.“
