We have eaten here for many years, and their service and food used to be amazing. In the last year and a half, the service and food have gone way downhill. We called tonight on our way to the restaurant we live 30 minutes away to see how long the wait was. I let the lady on the phone know it was for six people, and she said we would have to make a reservation. Totally fine with us as we are driving there. Puts us on hold. He comes back to the phone and says that since there are six people, we will need a credit card to hold the table. I think that’s a little extreme. So I recommend taking the pretty drive out to the Union Hotel in Occidental.

I'm so annoyed with reviews complaining about separate checks! It's a rule at this restaurant and many many more for a reason, most big parties are told and it's on the menu! Not sure who people think they are disrespecting company's rules "entitled" I guess. Also the recent 1 star is a joke. I was actually eating In there that day and she was not honest about many things in that review! Sad people have power to write things that are false. Good luck union hotel and other businesses that fall under false and hatred people. Union is one of my favorite bars. Great happy hour and the people that go there are such a great crowd!

A few of my favs are the Nashville chicken wrap, the polenta and meatballs , the Caesar salad, and the minestrone is the best I have ever had. The service is always great and the ambiance is great. I have never received worse service!! I work for a senior living community and we go to different restaurants around Santa Rosa. The residents really look forward to getting out and trying new restaurants. We had a request to try the Union Hotel, so I gathered 10 other people to head over there. Prior to arriving, we set a reservation for 10 people (although I did not expect it to be too busy in the middle of the week). When we arrived they were not ready for us, so we waited- which was fine. As we were being shown to our table, a lady came up to me and said "Next time you need to book a reservation" and I explained to her that we did, she then argued with me that the reservation was set only for 8 people and this was an inconvenience. Not a great first impression. We were all sat down for about 15 minutes without even a server coming to acknowledge us or bring us waters. I got up and asked to speak to a manager. A man came out from the back and just stood in front of me without saying anything. I asked if he was the manager and he laughed and said "sometimes." So I explained that we had not been greeted yet and that the gal who approached me was not very nice. I was hoping he could help me turn this experience around for my residents, but he was not helpful at all. I explained to him that we go out to lunch often and although it says "no separate checks" on the menu, restaurants usually are very accommodating as I am with a group of elderly folks. This man said "we usually don't do that but we'll see and there's a large party in the back where your server is". And that was it- never saw him again. I went back to the table and the server, Esther, who had finally arrived, was explaining there are no separate checks and I told her that I had just spoken to the manager about it and for her to please do the same to work it out. She said "I don't make the rules, what can I get you?" So she took her orders and eventually brought us water and a pitcher. 15 more minutes later we got our bread sticks, and eventually our food. The food was great and that I will give credit for, but it was like Esther couldn't wait to slap down the ONE check right in front of me at the end of the meal. Super disappointed in our experience. Will never ever be back here or recommend it to anyone. My residents and I felt like we were not wanted and only a burden and they did not deserve to feel that way. Shame on you.

The tri-tip wrap was delicious. Plenty of meat and mushrooms. Ordered a slice of carrot cake to take home. A good size slice, not the sliver-size of a lot of restaurants. The frosting was cream cheese and not overly sweet. The waitress was efficient and very friendly. We sat in the outside section as it was warm outside.
