Nice, quiet ambiance. There was only one waitress on duty. She answered the phones, seated guests, took orders, served food, and helped a lost insta cart driver trying to pick up at the wrong restaurant. She did all this with a smile and great, friendly customer service. The joy omlet was very tasty with large portions. This diner has to be one of my favorite diners around the bay. It was tricky to find one, but the servers made it easy to come back here. Their chicken fried steak, accompanied by their delightful homemade bread, is an absolute favorite of mine. Despite occasionally perusing the menu to try something different, I invariably order the same meal. I sincerely hope this place remains unchanged and thrives for years to come!

I've loved Joy of Eating for as long as I can remember....over 35 years....Moved out of state 7 years ago and on my last quick trip back to vallejo, our first stop as soon as we drove into town was Joy of Eating...Just as I remembered it! Food was delivered quick and was delicious...THE BREAD...I MISS IT SO MUCH....it is Soooo good!The server said the buildings on the whole block had recently been purchased.....I fear the new owners will be tearing it done....but I hope not.
