This goes back about a year or two, but I ordered the soup and an appetizer, and the soup was literally a solid substance…. Not even liquid at all. And I “thing it was not supposed to be that way. It was completely inedible. The bartender that served it, didn’t even say anything, like “that doesn’t look right”. I didn’t complain, just paid and left. But not surprised this trendy, horrible place closed. I read that the owner was blaming the empty office space downtown etc, but the reason this place closed is more likely the horrible food. The menu was very weird and wanna-be trendy. I am so tired of these hipster chefs that just want to make weird food, regardless of taste. I am a native of Denver, and the best places are still the old school staples that just serve normal food, where the soup is actually liquid. Good riddens to another hipster dump.

I need to start by saying, it appeared they were drastically understaffed. The guy who checked us in was also bussing tables, and running food. The bartender was doing dishes and making drinks and supporting the entire bar solo.It was not a good night for service, and I don't blame most of the staff. Our waiter, however, did not engage with us at all. We had a reservation and sat down and our waiter told us he would be with us in a minute. We waited 25 minutes with absolutely zero service. The table next to us was waiting for their credit card to get ran and the waiter took it, ran it, and then started pouring wine and helping people at the bar instead. He focused most of his time on a single table while completely ignoring the others. We were patient, we waited, we saw how busy they were and we were really not in a rush outside of being hungry. But around 25 minutes of waiting, we saw the other tables also going up to the bar to try and get service for their table for this particular waiter. The guy waiting for his credit card went up to the bar. And our waiter was no where to be seen nearby. So we never got to eat any food, try any drinks, or get any water. We decided it wasn't going to get any better and decided to go somewhere else.Again, I want to commend most of the staff for handling so much with such little staff. They were definitely working really hard. The reason for the 1 star review was that our waiter was easily distracted, focused his time on a single table, and left the row of us alone without much interaction at all. The second reason for the review is management. If the restaurant is this understaffed for a night, why let all tables fill up? Why not adjust to give the staff the room they need to be successful? The majority of the staff was bending over backwards to make it work and you could see they were struggling. The food looked great from the photos, the atmosphere looked great, but almost a half hour of waiting with no one even getting us water was just too long.

Pumpkin hummus, duck liver mousse, and Brussels sprouts were all delicious (as were our mains, but the apps stole the show). Fantastic cocktails and excellent service. Will definitely be returning!

Fabulous dinner with clients here. Service was perfect, our server was attentive and friendly, loved all of her recommendations. They also make a mean espresso martini, seriously, order it! You won't be sorry

If you go there, do the Chef Entrust! Everything was delicious, made to order, and able to honor our specific dietary restrictions. Jenny was amazing, and answered all our questions, and had a great playlist going.

Tried this restaurant one night when I wanted to feel more fancy when I ate somewhere and this place gave me all of that, it’s not over the top fancy but the experience here does make you feel a bit fancier! The food was obviously pricy but it was worth it! Especially the risotto, it was the best I have ever had!

Really enjoyed ourselves. Mo, our waitress was friendly and Mike the GM was super inviting and kept checking in with us.Duck puree is amazing! The portion is large but you will need to ask for more bread, they only give 3 peices. Braised bison was nice but not seasoned enough and not enough puree. Pork tenderloin was wonderful! Tender and flavorful, again wish they gave more puree.Atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing yet elegant.

I’ve loved Avelina for many years. When I was a lawyer in private practice as a food lawyer in Denver, it was a favorite to take clients for lunch because the food, service, and drinks were always top notch so I could count on a good dining experience to support a great conversation. Trusted it it to take a dear friend to dinner right before her first baby, and tonight I took my husband for the first time for our seventh anniversary. Tonight we did the chef entrust tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Consistently one of my favorite restaurants in Denver, and it just gets better. Thanks Rio, for great service tonight and thank you to the wonderful chefs!Vegetarian options: Lots of delicious, uniquely prepared vegetables year round!

Avelina, a downtown fine dining gem, was an overall enjoyable experience. The restaurant's ambiance was lovely, providing a comfortable and upscale setting that made for a pleasant evening. Our server, Rio, truly stood out with his excellent service. He was not only attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, effortlessly answering our questions and offering valuable recommendations. Rio's presence added a special touch to our dining experience. For the food, the brussel sprouts were a perfect little bites. The PEI mussels, while tasty, had an interesting pairing of the garlic cheesy bread that came with the mussels. Mussels itself were small. The Agnolotti crawfish étouffée was exceptional, but I wished for a larger portion. The beef tartar was good, and the sweet potato bravas had just the right amount of crispiness.

Very nice place. What I like the most is the space each party has from the other. Very well laid out. Food was clean and tasty.

The management and the whole staff at Avelina deserves kudos for accommodating our large dinner party with on a few days notice and for their flexibility in adjusting to an earlier reservation time at the very last minute. And even more so for the amazing food and service! Everything was delicious and timed well and I know a large group is not easy to manage.

Fantastic food and wine. We have been twice. Both times selected the table share option, which is a chef’s surprise selection. The first time we asked for a three glass wine pairing and the second time a two glass pairing. We were very pleased with the seasonal selections and portion size.
