Ok if you’re looking for some bougie patisserie this isn’t it HOWEVER, this place has the character, charm and personal touch that has been all but destroyed in our culture. Andrew is the best. His baked goods are a lost art and so is the feel of his shop. It is as unique and retro as he is and that is a GOOD thing. He’s one of the few left that knows his customers by name as they walk in and strive to make sure everyone is treated well sure he takes weirdly long vacations and leaves hilarious messages on his phone. But that’s the appeal of this bakery. They make Swedish pastries and bread that you can’t find anywhere. But above all it’s Andrew and his family run bakery. If you want Impersonal Dunkin baked goods baked in a factory in who knows where this ain’t it. Bread and Basket is like visiting Main Street USA that my grandparents reminisced about.Give them a try!!!

The Cardamom bread is fabulous. Must try!! I have served it at parties with so much other food and this is always the first to disappear off the table! You can't keep it around.

I've heard a lot about this bakery and its wonderful owner, so I made a special trip to it from East Rock (New Haven) today. I got there twenty minutes before closing. Getting to know this hospitable person, as well as pizza and bread, was my reward. Everything else was already sold out before me, unfortunately. A wonderful place, and I hope to get to know it better in the fall.

I have Scandinavian decent and was introduced to the Swedish Cardamom bread Braid with the rock sugar on top at a young age. The Bread Basket cardamom braids are EXACTLY like the cardamom coffee /breakfast bread I had with my Aunt Svea, born in Sweden, as well as the same Swedish food shops in West Hartford/Hartford area-Viking Bakery.Other companies try to make it, not the same. Others have a bagel like texture, too thick chewy, not the light fluffy, sweet, delicious consistency the Bread Basket has. They are truly a joden gem. Go every Christmas to load up a cooler withe the frozen braids.

Love the cardamom bread, but sadly nothing is available until he’s back from vacation September 23, 2022. Wah wah.

A great little bakery the only problem is the owner is very lazy and due to that the place has short hours that they are open which is very sad

Soups, bread, and other baked goods are fantastic, owner is very friendly and welcoming. My only complaint is that I can’t get there more often! Definitely worth a trip. Get there early or you’ll have slim pickings, everything sells quick
