Went here Friday night to celebrate a work promotion. Read all the great reviews on the place and got excited for a scorpion bowl and some octopus. I wish I could tell you I got to taste them and enjoy myself. But after the 4 of us were seated in a 1/2 empty restaurant at 7:03pm, we were all but ignored for an excessive amount of time. Never offered water or anything. Never asked us for our drink order or apps. Once 7:25 a bus boy cleaned a nearby table and I asked if he could make sure a server gets to us. To which he responded yes. As we watched as 2 or 3 sets of people who came in after us got helped out, and drinks successfully brought to them and orders taken, I asked the hostess when we would be helped. She said she would have someone there immediately. After waiting until almost 7:40 pm. My party and I decided to walk out.... What a disappointment. Went to Sakura Garden instead. Food wasn't the best but everything was done in a fast and timely manner and decent enough. Can't express enough how disappointed I was with the service here.

I saw the reviews and we were on the way to restaurant and just called them to ask how much time it might take on average to prepare the food since we are very hungry and the person who answered the call is very rude. She is like we are not a fast food centre or McDonald's to prepare food for you immediately, it might take 2 hrs to prepare the food... She even asked me " do you know the difference between fast food and a dine in restaurant". Very very bad customer service. I don't know why they even hire these kind of people who are rude to customers.

I stopped at this spot for a nice dinner on Valentine's. Food: As an Asian visiting the area, I was really looking for some comfort food. The filet mignon and shrimp combo hit the spot. It was also great that they had sushi options for appetizers. We got the New York roll, Gozilla roll, and Tiffany roll. The New York roll was a hit. Service: The wait staff were friendly and attentive. It was nice that they checked in with us throughout the meal. Our chef did not disappoint! Ambiance: They have a great layout and the energy was great throughout the night. We showed up at 6 and were seated immediately but the place definitely filled up by the time we were done. Come early if you want a spot!

Love the hibachi dinner combo - comes with soup and salad, with fried rice. Also, the fried shumai is delicious.

I had an order of rock shrimp and fried rice delivered to me . The rock shrimp was soggy and bland and had a bunch of lettuce under them that took up most of the container. The rice was also bland. Would not recommend this place.

Best price for their sushi in town, great service, and I come here regularly. The music always has me humming along

I took my son here with some friends and family to celebrate his 16th birthday. We really enjoyed our time and food here. Definitely will go again. There was a few parties going on that night in the hibachi section. All looked to be having a good time.

Honestly the freshest sushi in the Hamden area, and for the price.... Can't get any better. Servers are very attentive and checked on us multiple times. Our favorite roll was the fantasy roll, and the salmon Shashimi from here is a game changer.

A total of 4 of us went to Kumo today, and the service was poor. We waited 30 mins just for someone to take our drink order which only happened because I flagged a different waiter down. We each felt like we were being deliberately ignored by the main waiter because all of the other tables were being attended to and though he walked by us so many times, he still never took our order…. FYI we are a table of POCOnce we placed the order it took another 30-40 mins to receive it.. the food was good, however we still felt like the service was unsatisfactory and we decided as a group we didn’t want to tip. When it was time for the bill, the waiter who originally ignored us and took everyone else’s order, approached us with the bill. We paid. He returned with the receipt and asked us to leave a tip. To which one of us replied, “we’ll leave it in cash” just to avoid awkwardness and explaining how poorly we felt about the service, hoping he wouldn’t ask again. However when we exited the restaurant, that same waiter flagged us down while we were leaving the restaurant and already out the door. He asked why we did not leave a tip, and if we had a problem … we felt very uncomfortable and responded “no, we just changed our mind about leaving a tip”, to which he replied “well that’s very disrespectful to not leave a tip for the restaurant” to which we replied “tip isn’t mandatory, what is mandatory is the bill” and we left.We didn’t catch the waiters name but, he is Asian, about 5’2, with brownish-black hair. Wouldn’t recommend his service.

I always order lunch from here . I get the Bento box . It has a variety of things in it , and it's very reasonably priced. It's definitely one of my favorite go-to's in the hamden area .!

Kumo is the best when it comes to fresh and yummy sushi in the Hamden/North Haven area. Lots of pros including a big parking lot and it’s family owned (Grace is sweet). The food is consistently good - for starters I like the garlic broccoli, scallion pancake, and spicy kani salad. All the rolls are good too, but we love the dynamite. Now for the physical space … it’s lacking atmosphere and needs an update but please overlook the dated appearance and enjoy yourself, it’s a happy place.

Food was nice and the environment is cozy. The server was in a hurry to take away our plates but maybe it's because it was close to closing time. But it does make us a little uncomfortable other than that it was a good

I went here the other night for dinner with my wife. We've been a few times over the past year. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, a few hand rolls, general tsos chicken and a side of hibachi noodles. As always, everything was very good and tasted fresh. For the price, the sushi is very good, especially compared to some other places that charge close to double for similar rolls. My only minor issue is that they charged an extra $2 for a small side of Sriracha sauce we used for the hand rolls, but they did let us know before and we agreed, so it wasn't a blind side or anything.Overall, everything was great and we'll be back again!

I used to love this place but it's seen better days -- it's a bit worn around the edges. No atmosphere. Seems more focused on take-out than dine-in. The wait staff had a minimalist approach to serving, and the place wasn't even busy. Still, I gave her a 20% tip: maybe she was having a bad day? Note: The floor was so dirty my shoes stuck to it. Come on Kumo, you can do better! Gave it 4 stars because the food tasted good.
