“This was my first time trying a Poké bowl and it did not disappoint. It was very refreshing, especially on this warmer than normal March afternoon. Since it was my first time, I decided to create a build your own bowl and incorporate ingredients that I'm used to. The topper was their special sauces. I added shrimp, which were deveined, corn, fresh jalapeño, and a mix of rice and greens. For a surcharge you can also add avocado and kimchi, which I did. Everything blended together so well. The bowl was nice and satisfying. I definitely see myself returning throughout the summer, especially when I want a salad experience but a tad elevated. Parking is a bit tricky over there. But I went on a Thursday afternoon. The establishment was nice and clean. Bright and open. They had a few stool seats at a countertop. I believe they have Boba tea, but I'll try one the next time. There will most certainly be a next time!“
“I had my first experience with my friend and her brother today and it was fantastic. The fish was fresh, the cuts were amazing and the service was impeccable. Would highly recommend as an omakase spot in CT and order the kama toro, it was perfect.“
“SO GOOD! THIS PLACE NEEDS MORE HYPE!! I don't usually leave reviews, but I knew i had to after I came here. Service was amazing, food came very quickly, and it was all delicious!! Was not expensive either. Green tea ice cream, pork gyoza, and pad thai are a MUST TRY!! For those who have allergies, the waitress made sure to inform me that my pad thai had peanuts before I ordered it. Super considerate- definitely recommend.“
“This was my first time here. I tried the KFC Bao and the Pho GA. Both were a first for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my selections, but I'm not a soup eater, so I don't have to have the pho again. I'd definitely return.I do however want to know if there is a camera in the hole in the ladies' room wall. I was kind of weirded out by that.Ok so I came back on 3/5 and the food and service was top tier. Ruben and his trainee were awesome. My entire email was phenomenal.“
“Went with another couple and sat at table in front window, where it was quiet and provided a view of the entire restaurant. Appetizers and sushi were outstanding. The lava cake was amazing. Service was superb. We used to regulars but hadn't been since the pandemic. One of the finest dining experiences in New Haven!“
“The bento boxes, miso soup, and Dragon Rolls are very good. The only reason why I can't give this place 5 stars is because this isn't authentic Japanese. The people in the back making the food aren't Japanese and I can tell because I can hear them speaking and I know Japanese well enough to be able to tell it apart from the other Asian languages. Also their clerk is an Indian lady. Takumi in Branford is hands down more authentic as everyone there is actually Japanese.“
“Don’t understand the mixed reviews, I’ve been ordering takeout from this place very often for three years and the sushi is always of great quality and very fresh. I’ve gotten salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and shrimp tempura sushi and it’s always been well prepared, neat, and tastes amazing. The food comes out real quick too, and you can get a good amount of sushi for a fairly good value. Can’t speak to anything other than the sushi here, but would definitely recommend to a friend.“
“The 1st time I was here very disappointed with the food and service. The manager was accommodating and gave us a $20 gift card. 2nd visit was much better. The food is okay and service okay. I love their calamari. There is a 20% gratuity that’s added no matter size of group.“
“The food was plentiful. Even the appetizers were big enough for the four of us. We started with the edamame and Brussel sprouts appetizers. I don't eat edamame, but the Brussel Sprouts were delicious. I had the hibachi chicken, which was a large portion, plated nicely that was also flavorful. Others at the table had the sushi rolls. They were very large portions. We asked for them to be done with brown rice, which they were. We we will definitely be eating there again.Dietary restrictions: They gad brown ricexas a substitute for white.“
“Live in Northford and this is our go to sushi place. We always order online and pick up. They are always busy on the weekends and the wait can be an hour sometimes, but it's fresh and worth the wait! Staff is friendly and always hustling trying to get the to go orders out.“
“Everyone kept telling me to visit this restaurant, and now I can see why! From the moment you walk in, you can tell that there are a lot of regulars, and everyone loves coming back repeatedly. it also feels like a very cozy family restaurant. We ordered so many dishes for our table to try and were not disappointed by any of them. We tried everything from the sake cocktails to the spicy mussels and of course a few different sushi rolls. All I can say is that the hype is absolutely warranted and I will be back for more!“
“I am a regular here. Their sushi is fantastic! I also love their chicken skewers- they’re juicy and fresh. The atmosphere here is very chill and relaxing. The family that owns this are very hard working and polite. Great food and great people. 100% “
“A beautiful restaurant with nice interior. Delicious food with various Japanese food selections. I love their special roll selections and how they serve it with beautiful presentatio. Ramen was great too. Octopus ball is good, but little bit creamy for me.“
“When you walk in its soft peaceful atmosphere. The ladie in the front was very cheerful ? she was also helpful on what I should order vegetable fried rice with beef wrap scalps in a house sauce very tasty. Now I do know this place is handicap accessible no public bathrooms and parking is alittle tight .would I eat here again absolutely ? ?Parking: It's tightKid-friendliness: Yes for sureWheelchair accessibility: Absolutely“
“If I could give more than 5-stars I would! Not just for the food, but the best service ever and the reason we will be going back there is all because of Kimmy, she does everything by herself there and was outstanding and just a very special person. We will ABSOLUTELY be back and this is now our go-to date night spot without a doubt!“
“The food speaks here - especially the Ramens. This is the one Ramen spot I actually travel to eat at. Then the sushi and hand rolls back it up. The cold soba noodles, scallop carpaccio, sake selection. Great place to come solo and get some work done too. The Karrage could have slightly smaller chunks :)“
“If you are looking for authentic, delicious, and affordable Japanese food in southwestern Connecticut, Mecha-Uma is the real deal! Mr. and Mrs. Hirata are exceptionally kind, personable hosts, and they are all too happy to welcome you and recommend a dish from their daily menu based on your tastes and preferences. My go-to favorite is the beef curry with chicken katsu (cutlet), which is served over a generous portion of perfectly cooked rice, a large scoop of mashed potatoes, and just enough mixed green salad with light dressing to fulfill your veggie quota. All this home-cooked food for the price of a fast food 'value' meal and the decision is truly a no-brainer. If you like Japanese food, or are simply curious to try it, head straight to Mecha-Uma. It is very easy to get to right off exit 43 on I95, and there is a small table outside with a couple chairs if you want to eat your meal hot and fresh on the spot, which is my recommendation to experience the friendly service and a little bit of Japan on Campbell Avenue!“
“I really liked the food in here and definitely good for take out. Yet, we were there for dinner, and the smell was the heaviest I got in a sushi restaurant. Also the atmosphere seems a little dark and old. Except for the atmosphere and the really heavy smell, it would be great. If they would refresh the atmosphere inside, I would go all the time.Note: their parking place is a little tricky. It's hard to see on the first time.“
“Momo has the best sushi in Fairfield county. We have been regulars for many years and prefer their sushi for its quality, variety and consistency. The service is impeccable and owners Jeffrey and Jasmine are always accommodating. On any given evening you will see that over 50 percent of the patrons are regulars. Can’t recommend Momo enough!“
“This is our default spot in Hamden! Jasa is so consistent and delicious! We love the array of dumplings. The dishes are always fresh! They also make a great egg roll. The space is clean and quiet and the service is always great! We will continue to return!“
“Sonobana is a standout among the myriad of sushi restaurants in the greater New Haven area. Not everyone can make it to New York or Boston for decent sushi restaurants. This is where Sonobana comes to the rescue. The interior is very tastefully decorated without the garish photos of sushi dishes or the marker board advertising specials. The dishes are of very high quality and taste. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine then definitely take the time to visit!“
“The food never disappoints. Always flavorful and decent sized portions. The restaurant was packed when we went, which is a testament to the quality. Their prices aren't cheap, but you do get what you pay for here. Branford offers 2 hibachi restaurants, and in our opinion, this one reigns supreme. The only disappointment was our service on that particular night. Our rice never arrived, and at the end of our dinner, we needed to find our server to get it and then pack it up to go. This is not the norm. I do believe that it was a particularly busy night as all tables were full.Overall, Kampaii is a staple in Branford and not to be passed up!“
“Have been coming here quite often for date nights, family dinners, out with friends - always been happy. Great spot. Food can be somewhat inconsistent, but we've never had a bad meal - just some experiences that were outstanding and some that were good. Dragon roll and spicy crab salad are some favorites! In the last year, service has improved tremendously. Recommend if you want a good bang for your buck in terms of sushi.“
“Sushi was excellent, but pass on the crab wontons (crab rangoon) as they tasted off. The shrimp tempura was delicious, light and flaky. A little more expensive than other places so I'll probably stick with my usual place that is closer to home. But if you're in the area it's a good option!“
“"Regular" menu was used, a "Kitchen" menu or "Sushi" menu is offered. I used the "regular" menu.Parking: Sunday parking was more than adequate. There is parking in multiple areas. Monday thru Friday maybe be tight.“
“The food service was quite fast. The food flavors and quality was amazing! The ambience is also really nice for a date night or celebrating a special occasion. They have an extensive drink selection be it sake, wine or whiskey so one can always go back to try more. We had the premium sake flight, American Wagyu curry, anchovy fries (10/10 recommend), uni and braised short rib“
