After hundreds of reviews this is going to hurt. Food is great along with the atmosphere but where this restaurant lacks is its public information. The owner needs to incorporate the actual hours on Google Maps as well as post a valid phone number and website. There is no official menu and customers need to rely on a photo on Google. Not knowing the hours or phone number for call ahead orders makes it near impossible to hit the nail on the head with this place.

There is a sign on the door that says they are permanently closed. Too bad always enjoyed eating there.

Honestly it's not the worst place, but I was very unimpressed. I ordered a shrimp taco and a soda. For 8 dollars ,the taco was very sloppy put together, food fell out all over the place. It tasted like a Cole slaw taco with shrimp on it. There will never be a next time for me.

Terrible customer service, young woman taking the order was very rude and dismissive. I found a plastic item in my taco , and chose not to bring it to their attention till the end because the tacos were actually good. I was just letting her know so she and her team can be aware so this doesn’t happen to the next customer , her response was “yea we don’t have anything that looks like this” the piece easily could have been from a container of some sort and she basically did not care. I will never eat there again just off of the simple fact of how dismissive and rude this employee was.

My favorite is the California Burrito, supreme veggie taco and Queso and chips! The ingredients are all fresh. They make their own tortillas from scratin front of you when you order. Super clean restaurant and the staff is very friendly.

Not impressed with this place at all, unfortunately extremely disappointed! I'll never order from here again! Cold tacos? Charging for a spoonful of guacamole with no taste? Thanks but no thanks!

We were super excited to try California Tacos after hearing many good things. We knew they closed at 8:30 p.m., so when we arrived at 8:01 p.m. we didn't even think it would be an issue. When I went to place our order and said "for here", the person said they are only doing take-out. While we thought that was really odd considering there was essentially a half-hour before closing, and let's be honest, we are talking about tacos ? here. Easy to make and fast to consume. We went on to order take-out, but were quickly informed they were out of beans, rice, queso, chips and a few more things. I fully understand the supply chain issues, but we strongly feel like we were indirectly being told to go. The tone regarding not being able to dine-in and being out of items was hardly sympathetic. This is not how you run a business effectively. Customers keep the lights on, not the employees. Update: 8/18/22 - The management team has reached out to me and have been nothing but responsive and understanding. Moving from 1 star to 3 stars and will amend after eating their food. TBD. 8/31/22 - We tried the food and it's tasty good. The tacos are on point and the queso is amazing. We'll be back!

Ordered a steak burrito. Wrap wasn't cooked all the way and was tough to cut and chew. Steak was just barely warm enough to eat. Tasty but not enjoyable.

I've been to California Tacos a few times now and each time gets better and better! This was the first time I dined in and I had 2 of my Sisters with me.We enjoyed all the food we ordered.Pictured is the 2 shrimp tacos and 1 fish taco that I ordered! Absolutely DELISH!!!The shrimp are cooked to perfection and pop in your mouth when you bite into them. The fish is fried perfectly and the taste is flavorful! As long as this location continues to prepare fantastic food, I'll continue to spend my money.

As a fan of Tripadvisor I failed to read the reviews before eating at California Taco. That was a mistake because TA exists to help us make better choices. On the positive side, the kid taking our order at the cash register was friendly and knew his products. He was helpful to describe differences in each item. They brought our food to the table, starting with the fountain drinks and appetizer (chips and avocado) but we had to get our own plastic forks and napkins from a display that was set on top of a drink cooler so we thought it was more like their restocking supplies rather than something we were supposed to use. Their fish taco ($5) had a good size chunk of fried filet topped with a very spicy sauce that made my tongue tingle. The chips and guac ($7.50) was a good deal as the avocado was fresh and there was a good quantity for two of us. In fact, scooping more guac on the chips than we normally would we still only managed to eat half. Our overall impression of their tacos was fair. The ingredients seemed fresh but there was no 'wow' factor, other than the spicy sauce on the fish taco, that would entice us to come back. Although the guac was good, the tortilla chips were cold, as in icy. That was just odd as most places serve them warm or at least room temp. The rice and beans (each sold individually) were a huge disappointment. Not only lacking flavor, the rice had a sour taste that we could not identify. While we hate to waste food we threw away both of these. We were surprised to see so little business on a Friday evening when most restaurants are packed. While the employees were all friendly with customers no one smiled and they all seemed sad and bored. Other than the food, there were other reasons why we won't return and why I wanted to write this review. One of the guys who brought food to our table looked the part of a California surfer dude who was recovering from an extraordinary high. He shuffled along at a constant slow pace as if the drugs hadn't yet worn off. We watched him in the kitchen area run his fingers through his very long hair and wipe his nose. Never did we see anyone wash their hands, so knowing this guy touched himself and then touched our drink cups and food baskets (or even the chips) made us gag.

Best taco spot in Middletown. Great service. Not sure what the other taco snobs are talking about in the reviews. The food is tasty and the prices are fair. The place is clean. I'm there for lunch usually once a week and never got a bad meal.

7.50 for 2 tiny cups of guac. Hot sauce is simply heat. No flavor. Out of large drinks. 1st and last visit I believe.
