Compared to LIPS across the street La Matesina is dead. No body dining in and very little take out. We started coming here (mostly take out) because their menu seems extensive with a variety of sauces. I thought their ravioli and tortellini were good, and their pizza was okay, but the dine-in experience was wholly unsatisfactory. That might be expected since the place is dead inside. The "chef" was sitting in the dining room but rather than greet us and seat us he went through the kitchen so I had to back track out to the front to ask him if it was even okay to sit inside. Our waitress was not very good at doing waitressing things. She had no personality, didn't converse with us, basically ignored us throughout our meal, and then disappeared at the end so I had to track someone down to pay our bill. Again, no one else dining in and no takeout business on a Saturday evening. We were almost finished eating when the waitress finally checked on us and asked if everything was okay but this is something she should have done within the first 5 minutes of serving us. When she brought food to our table she reached across from the far side of the table overextending herself to set the plates down, rather than walk a few more steps to serve from our side of the table. Awkwardness tends to be hazardous but she wasn't being careful. The calzone filling was not layered so I think he rolled it wrong. Each ingredient was in its own space inside, meat on one side, cheese on the other. The marinara was thin and tasted more like a tomato juice. The lasagna was disappointing. A thin layer of noodles was swimming in a thin watery sauce. The meat was hamburger, and the seasonings did not suggest this was an Italian dish. I've never had a lasagna anywhere that didn't stand up on its own. From the moment this dish was set in front of me it looked sad and pathetic. When we order take out we called one of the 2 phone numbers listed on their menu and is also on their website. Unfortunately we did not know they have a second location in Delaware City because nowhere anywhere do they mention this fact, they just publish 2 phone numbers. It really wouldn't take much to add locations to their publications, but even after mentioning this at the time they figured out we ordered from the wrong location they didn't seem interested in correcting anything. I get the feeling they've been around forever so they just assume everyone must know where they are or which phone number to call. When I go across the street to Little Italy Pizza and see 10 or 15 employees buzzing around working hard, and the owner takes time to look up and greet us while tossing pizza dough, I can't help but wonder how La Matesina stays in business.

Best pizza in Townsend Delaware by far. Real Italian workers means real Italian food ! Sad it has some bad reviews but must be because people would rather talk about 1 bad experience that 1000 good ones. The best thing on the menu is the bone in breaded wings. Must try !

Ordered meatball parmigiana sandwich and it was terrible. Order from here a few times before and never had a problem. Called to complain about sandwich and was told "oh well, nothing I can do about it!" Horrible customer service! Will NEVER order anything from here again

I typically order from LIPS but wanted to try this place. When I ordered pasta, it was great. However, I ordered online last night, I ordered a large steak sub and a pizza. The order arrived extremely late and they were closed when I started to eat. I was confused to find an Italian sub with ketchup and Mayo…… I called today to ask about it and was told “I thought it was strange” but “not my fault”. I have the sub uneaten but because I ordered online and don’t have an account with the app they use, I cannot even go back to show I ordered a steak sub. Be careful if you order online and double check everything- even if delivered.

Horrible I ordered a chicken cheese steak. And got a cheesesteak paid the lady who comes back and puts my change on the counter .I will never be going back there and I live in Townsend. Just horrible

Ordered one time from here and haven't been back since. My wife and I ordered chicken cheesesteaks and were seriously disappointed with what we got. They were bland with very little flavor. Plus to top it off, when my wife bit into her cheesesteak she found a piece of a broken clam shell. What the heck?!
