I treated a friend to Harry’s yesterday for her birthday. I have dined at the restaurant many times over the past several years. Yesterday’s experience was quite disappointing. We both ordered a steak, red beans and rice and collard greens. My friend’s steak was ordered medium well. It came well done. After the manager was notified, a second steak came medium well, but was tough. Both the red beans and rice and the collard greens were barely room temp. Twice we had to ask for tea refills and also had to ask for the customary bread which we finally got halfway through the meal. I don’t know what was going on, they weren’t very busy-it was shortly after 3 pm. For $80 I expected better.
Experience hit all of the ingredients to make this a must visit restaurant. Service, food, presentation, quantity were all top notch. Ambience was great. We would have stayed and had desert but 2 hour parking and aggressive meter maids kept our visit to two hours. Will definitely be back.
First, parking stinks. The restaurant is well worn, but has a cozy feel. The food is very good. We started with Fried Green Tomatoes and then had shrimp and grits and redfish with crab top. Everything was excellent. If you are interested in New Orleans style cuisine Harry’s is a good choice.
We had a great time. Wonderful food and fantastic waiter.
We stopped in yesterday for lunch on a whim and have absolutely no regrets. Chicken and Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Etouffee, and grit cakes were all delicious. Service is a little slow, but it is so worth it. Can’t wait to go back!
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! Had the lunch portion of the shrimp and grits and it was very flavorful and filling. I will definitely be visiting again.
Great food! Love their jazzy chicken tacos. Plus, their staff are usually friendly and respectful to all patrons despite being busy. Saw a waiter offer his arm to a little old lady who needed some assistance.
Good food, great service, and great atmosphere! You won’t be disappointed. They handled our party of 22 very well. You’ll find a lively New Orleans-inspired ambience and friendly staff who care about their customers. The overall experience was positive. Moreover, I had accidentally left a bag there and the manager held onto it for me until I returned to pick it up. That’s exemplary customer care.I was a little disappointed by the chicken and shrimp creole though, which had too much rice piled on for my liking and not enough chicken or shrimp to balance. I was able to try the red fish and chicken from my neighbors though and those were delicious. The deep fried Oreos for dessert also hit the spot. And I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and grouper fingers too.Great place for a big family dinner in downtown Gainesville.
We had a great lunch here. The food was terrific and Amanda, our server was great! I'd recommend a visit if you are in the area!
Stopped in Gainesville on the way to a week of Scout camp. Wanted something good for our "last meal" before a week of camp food. Harry's did not disappoint! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was fabulous. We each got something different. I had Shrimp and grits, delicious. My wife had fried shrimp with Red Beans and Rice, probably the best she has had outside of her grandmothers kitchen or New Orleans. My daughter, the picky one, had the Chicken Jolie Blonde on Grit Cakes with smashed potatoes. Y'all, the child doesnt even like grits, and she cleaned her plate! My son had the Chicken and Shrimp Creole, which was also amazing. A little sweet, a little savory and just the right amount of spice. Even the complimentary bread with chive butter was awesome. We all walked out stuffed. The prices were very reasonable as well. If I had to complain about something, it would be the water...but it is Florida water, so you kind of expect it to be a little funky. Would definitely come back!
The best seafood I've had in Gainesville. Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices and good service. Not a 5star but close. Would definitely come again.
Harry's has been my favorite restaurant in Gainesville for a while. I was happy to come here for dinner and the food and service did not disappoint. The portions are huge and with proportional meat and pasta... it's always a good time when I come visit!
Food, atmosphere and service were wonderful. Highly recommend if you want a great dining experience in Gainesville!
Haven't been in the place for years. Still amazing. The piece of fish on my sandwich was so big I could barely finish it. Delicious and fresh.
We have visited Gainesville annually for at least 7 years. Harry's is STILL my favorite restaurant! The service is always good & the food is great. Nice variety on the menu. Be sure to go during their "happy hours" if you order adult beverages with your meal. Highly recommend! Only issue is the parking. Sometimes we have to use the parking garage & pay...but it's not going to deter me from going to Harry's. Be sure to get the Key Lime Pie.
