“Stopped here for a quick lunch before the long, boring drive back to Tallahassee. Cool little area of restaurants and bars. Staff was super-friendly and cool, and the 90's rock was a plus. Pizza was outstanding and made with high quality ingredients. A little higher priced than some pizza places, but I'll pay for higher quality any day of the week. Parking might be a challenge on weekends and nights, but no issues during the late lunch time. Would def eat here again.“
“I want to clarify my 4 star rating: the food is 10/10 insanely delicious, the service was friendly, energetic and thoughtful. The only reason I did not rate 5/5 was the wait and the size of the place. Hardly any room when I was there and the wait was 45 minutes. However, it's worth every minute and any inconvenience of space! I ordered the pear and prosciutto ravioli....I can't, I just can't, it was so very delicious. I also ordered the classic chicken in white sauce pasta ? ? ?. My attendant was helpful, attentive despite the cramped space. Hilarious to read some of these reviews (they didn't have chicken piccata, calling the owner defensive in his replies to reviews because he communicated back to random people who said the handmade pasta is the worst pasta they've ever had...). That is a professionalism I have to commend. Anyhow, yes it is upscale. The restaurants on the Avondale strip have been terrible for a long time (they were just the same restaurant-- American food with a southern touch, how unique). Finally we get a real restaurant. The drinks are delicious. The focaccia is awesome, yes it's $10 but you know what, it's a bread appetizer. Maybe don't expect an entire loaf of it. You're going out to eat, you shouldn't expect food to be $3.99 because you can get a loaf at Publix (a nod to other idiotic comments in here). Caesar salad is great---the first time I went there I felt it was too anchovy forward, but since then it's been dressed perfectly and the anchovy dialed back. That's exactly what you want with a restaurant, they try things, adjust, listen. The braised beef ravioli and bolognese are my favorites by far. And the meyer lemon tart is my go to dessert. I'd encourage you all to read the 1 star reviews if you have any apprehensions about going here, and understand it is people who think they can treat staff terribly and be treated like kings, think food is too salty (at a scratch italian restaurant), want sides with their lasagna (what?), thought it was too expensive, thought things were bland, and the list goes on. All I can say is...I've had these dishes and they're delicious. Not bland. Not salty. You go to a nice restaurant, they don't give you a heaping plate for you to stuff your face with until you're sick. And they charge you more because they use higher quality ingredients and make things by hand. The sound issue was a very real thing and again, they listened (literally) and dealt with it. I would ask my fellow Jacksonvillians to stop ruining every good thing that happens here because it isn't like the Carraba's they're used to. Sigh. “We had a business lunch at Taverna in San Marco yesterday and I have to say I was impressed with the service, food and ambiance of the restaurant. We had reservations so we were greeted and seated right away. They have outdoor seating on a front patio and it was a beautiful day but we chose to eat inside. It was pretty crowded but it was never so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. Our waitress was right there to take our drink order as we waited for the third member in our party to arrive. Once everyone was there we all ordered lunch. I ordered a beat salad with no extra protein, my husband ordered a chicken sandwich with a side salad and our colleague ordered a pasta dish. We chatted and I was surprised how quickly our food arrived. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was pretty intuitive, she realized that we were having a little business meeting so she cleared our dishes out of the way and was around to check in and refill our drinks. I want to return and try some fresh pasta the next time we come back. It really looked delicious. I highly recommend Taverna we had a great experience and I know you will too!“

This was our first time visiting Vito’s Pizza and the young ladies who waited on us answered all of our questions, made recommendations enthusiastically and were very attentive to our needs. “This is a small restaurant in a strip mall but don't let that influence you. This is a nice place serving up fresh authentic foods. We had the lasagna and the homemade sauce was great. Also had the carbonara and it was good as well. Please note the actual menu may differ from the one online but they have a good selection. We also got lucky and it was free dessert Thursday. “Looking for big, new york style slices? This is the spot. On my first visit I got the meatball sub and a slice of Philly. Not a huge fan of mushrooms but I'll tell ya, I killed that slice. Full of flavor at a great price. This visit I told the owner about how the meatball sub wasn't great and she not only appreciated my feedback but wants to make it better. Its always nice talking to business owners willing to listen and look to please customers. Its an important relationship for local businesses.This visit I got the meat lovers and Hawaiian for my wife. I got the Philly (again) and the BLT. Also a order of mozzarella sticks. Ate the BLT and some sticks, not quite ready for the philly but all was great. Hot, fresh and the slice was a great iteration of a BLT. Crisp lettuce, tons of bacon, tomatoes and a mayo drizzle that isnt too abrasive. Wife enjoyed her meat lovers(also had before and while not a fan on pepperoni, loves this meat lovers).Havent had the pasta yet but will look to try it next time. Definitely give them a shot and if ordering the meatball sub, check that they have the inhouse meatballs. Think thats the game changer from what I had before.“

“This restaurant is amazing and the servers are very professional. I had a work meeting here, and my boss asked for the gluten-free menu( I have Celiac) . They had a separate menu, and they cooked everything separate , with no cross contamination. The manager came and talked to me and read the gluten-free menu for me. She was very smart and careful. “We went for a late weekday lunch. We generally have a good experience at this location the weak spot this time was our server, not attentive and not very energetic. Maybe he was new but he acted as if we was in no hurry. Our orders came out correctly and were very good. I was happy the kitchen did not skimp on the shrimp. The payment kiosk on our table did not work. We waited for Slow Moe but he was nowhere to be found. Fortunately the manager stopped by and checked us out, plus brought out our forgotten Andes mints. Overall we had a good visit and will surely return.“

You won't see it off the main road. You see the valet parking sign but there's no need for valet when there's an entire empty parking lot at a strip mall where most of the stores are closed. It would be better suited in Downtown Jacksonville riverfront to revamp our downtown area or San Marco/Riverside area. It is a beautiful space that you would see in Miami including the prices. “We lived in the area when Toscana first opened, before FB, and it was amazing. Our first time was for our 3rd wedding anniversary and we couldn’t have asked for better food and service. Went went at least once a month after that until we moved from the area. The owner, who waited on us on multiple occasions was always so thoughtful. We were pregnant with our first, as was his wife and, and we spent a lot of time talking about our soon to be children. We moved before our son was born, but whenever we think back on our time in Jacksonville, this restaurant and its owner, always come to mind.
