It's been like 7 years since I last stepped into California Beach Rock n' Sushi restaurant for a meal, and now I'm wondering why it took me so long to come back here, as the grub here is F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S!!! I sure miss the California Beach Rock n' Sushi Ward Ave. location, but I guess they had to shut down the Ward location (a few years ago) due to the pending "rail" project that was supposed to make it's way eventually down to the Ala Moana area??? Since then, California Beach Rock N' Sushi relocated to the Pearlridge area, and I'm guessing since it's kinda out of the way for me, this is the reason for my 7 year absence. I came here because one of my friend recently came back home for a visit (she lives in Arizona now), and a small get together was arranged by my friend Danell. I gotta give BIG "Props" to - California Beach Rock n' Sushi for their Covid-19 safety protocols, as it appears that you must make reservations before coming down here to eat. As you arrive at the restaurant, you can't just enter, as they will ask what party do you belong to. Upon entering the establishment, they will take your temperature, & give you a dab of hand sanitizer before you are allowed to your table. Staff wore mask & gloves, and all tables were spaced out according for social distancing, as they only allowed 10 people (max) per table. Our party of 11 ended up using (2) tables. Menus were not given out as you had to scan the "QR" code to see the menu on your smart phone. I ended up ordering a combo set of Korean Chicken & Mixed Tempura (shrimp & vegetables tempura). The meal came with a bowl of white rice, toss green salad, & miso soup. Complimentary edamame was given to us on each table. What can I saw about the grub??? I was totally caught off guard with the food portions they offered here! The food portions was very generous! The Korean Chicken was done nicely - crispy, and great flavoring. The Tempura came out hot & fresh! I got (2) Shrimp Tempura, and the rest was Vegetable Tempura. I can't wait to come back here again for another meal, as the menu offered an array of items!
Love this place the waitress is awesome we was running late from my son Sr. Picture at Pearl ridge call to tell them we'll be late we had a 7:00 reservation they said no problem come by 7:30. Got there waited 5 min. The food is always fresh and yummy we had grill ika and both of us had the ikura salmon don it was so delicious. My son and I love to come her plus the drinks is yummy. The waitress is super friendly plus the guy who comes and greet you.
I have been coming to this place before it was in Honolulu. The portions are huge, they have an amazing miso butterfish dish that I have been coming back for year over year. I took one star cause it is a bit far now from the touristy areas:(. Which us a bummer. Recommend you reserve a table, especially in 2021 when Hawaii is becoming increasingly busy.
Really great, fresh sushi! You need to come here. Large portions, and reasonably priced, unlike so many other places. The staff is very friendly, warm, and helpful. The restaurant has a really cool atmosphere.
Reservations only? Really??? Went to the restaurant early (5:35 pm) on a weekday to celebrate our anniversary but were turned away. (hardly anyone in the restaurant). I could understand if the pandemic just started but come on!
So I've been here several times and I like this place. The food is good although some could have used a little salt. Our waitress was ok, not really attentive. I'm mainly writing this review because of the guy that was hosting. He was wearing gloves. He opened the door with the gloves, checked our temperature with the gloves, bussed the tables with the same gloves, dropped off our food with the same gloves, touched the top of my water glass with the gloves, grabbed the top of my oyster shooters with the same gloves, the tip of his finger was in my food when he dropped it off. Wiped his sweat with the back of his gloves hand. I wanted to send everything back but I was super hungry. Not once did he change his gloves and he had a hole in one of the fingers. I had to mention to him that he should be changing his gloves and not only that, I'm wondering if he washes his hands. I'm sure he was touching everything else in that restaurant. I guess what I'm saying is there should be better sanitation/hygiene etiquette when handling people's food. Just because you wear gloves, doesn't mean it's ok to touch everything including people's food. Maybe he should have just stuck to being a host.
I just picked up my two early bird special dinner plates $17 ea. Order Options; Teri beef and California roll they said thirty minute wait for pickup. Got there in 30 minutes Didn't receive my Teri beef but got Teri chicken. I don't like chicken!!! Called to complain but nothing. Than started eating the meal. All the shrimp tempura and vegetables were cold and batter hard, Teri chicken was dry and cold. Sad meal. Don't know why I had to wait 30 minutes for that!!! Miso soup was cold. Had to micro Salad was ok
Was the 2nd time eating there had the fried Hamachi collar got just 1 word ONO and just like the first time friendly service and great food can't wait till the next time
Wow, this place is awesome. Here the newly redone cozy interior makes me feel very comfortable and it offers high-end quality sushi at casual price. I came here first time today and I would come with my co-workers next time
Great service and best quality sushi.
This is the one of the best places I have eaten in a while!!! We'll be back very soon!!! Excellent customer service.
Hands down my favorite sushi spot on the island!! I do love Sushi Spot too, but my husband and I come here more often. Everyone is so friendly and I love that I can bring my one year old here and feel welcome. Downey Roll. My favorite roll of all time. I get it pretty much every time I come here. Those crispy onions on top just do it for me. I tried the Seared Ahi Special the other day and it was delicious too. I don't think there is anything on their menu that isn't good. My husband loves to come and sit at the bar area during happy hour. The early bird special is also yummy and a great deal. We're leaving the island soon so I'll be back for my last Downey Roll.
I had been to the location on Ward a long time ago and was looking forward to trying this location. The restaurant was clean and followed social distancing guidelines and all staff members wore masks. The service and food was great! Everything we ordered was delicious!! The Battered Garlic Squid was sooooo yummy and definitely one of my favorites!
Only doing take-out as of writing this; I can speak highly of the spicy tuna & the crunchy crab roll, though.
Best gyoza and sushi in Aiea. First time to try and will be back. They sanitized immediately after every customer too.
