“Great food and friendly service! We happened to find this sushi spot after visiting the Hilo Farmer's Market and are so happy we did! We ordered two poke bowls and a sushi roll (spicy tuna) to share. You can see the chef making the food behind the tiny counter, and he apologized profusely that it would be a 30-minute wait. It was peak lunch hour, though, so it was an understandable wait and ended up being closer to 20 minutes. Poke bowls were tasty--the ahi tasted fresh and had a nice flavor, though the spicy ahi wasn't at all spicy. The spicy tuna roll was the real standout, though, and was super tasty! If I return to the Big Island, I will just order sushi rolls here because that roll was so good.“
“This restaurant was so good that I decided to start writing Google Reviews - the world needs to know how great this place is. We stayed in Hilo for 5 days and ate here twice. Every single thing we ate was excellent. Our most well-traveled group member decreed this as the best Thai food he’s ever had in America. The curry was spectacular - especially the green curry, the masaman curry, and the red pineapple curry. We also enjoyed the pad Thai, coconut soup, green papaya salad, spring rolls, Thai tea, and mango sticky rice. You really can’t go wrong!Ohi and Lotus were so kind; they even gave us recommendations for local activities as we were waiting for our food. It sounds like they grow most of their vegetables or buy them at local farmer’s markets. Everything tasted so fresh! If you like Thai food, you will love this place.Vegetarian options: Tofu as an option for most dishes“
“Best take out sushi in Hilo hands down ! Place looks unassuming but this is the only place I'll order sushi from . I haven't had a chance to try other items but I've tried their poke and hamachi and ahi sushi rolls . Fresh fish and good quality and reasonably priced . This is honestly better than the other "reserve a table a year in advance" places . In my opinion .“
“We ordered the fried wings and thighs, and the yakitori bowl. The wait time is a bit long but it's because they fry them fresh. Everything was super delicious from the light batters to the fluffy rice, and the amazing sauces. Mmmm, now that's finger licking good!“
“Quick SummaryNice little gem in Hilo, when you want to get your fried food fix. Can call ahead to skip on the line, but the line moves pretty quickly. The staff are very friendly and patient. My favorites are their tempura, particularly their fish.Food- 5 starsReally solid batter on their tempura. Would highly recommend their tempura'd fish. Definitely balance it out with some pickles and musubi, but the highlight was the tempura fishService- 5 starsThe staff are very friendly and patient. They were awesomeBottom LineGood and fast tempura with excellent service. It's street parking only, but people come and go quickly.“
“found this small hole in the wall place on our recent visit to Hilo. wow what a hidden gem of a place! great food and portions for a great price. cash only so keep that in mind. we had the chicken katsu curry special, pork curry with menchi katsu combo plate and kansai style okonomiyaki. no sit down tables at this restaurant so we decided to stop at Lili'uokalani Gardens for a family picnic and relax under a tree by the Waihonu pond. what a perfect place for lunch!“
“Feels like a diner but it’s 100% Japanese. Lucky for us there wasn’t a table at Pinapple’s down the block. Instead, we stumbled upon this gem in Hilo. Difficult to decide because everything sounded so delicious. We got the ahi carpaccio, spicy ahi rolls, spicy cucumber, and tan tan noodles. Service was so friendly and welcoming. Everything delicious! Noodles were just the right consistency of chewiness and firmness. Wish I had another stomach. I would have ordered the rest of the menu.“
“I haven’t been here in years and the food is still great. I’ve always ordered the cone sushi, Musubi, and tempura shrimp. They have lots of other popular options and usually have a line (food is deliciously consistent in flavor). Get there early before they sell out on the popular items.“
“Awesome drive in walk up window service style food. The best French fries around and tasty burgers. They have local favorites as well including breakfast. Outside dining only or food to go. Popular with the early morning blue collar workers and always seems busy for breakfast and lunch. We went before the lunch crowd showed up so service was pretty quick. It was a little more expensive than I would have expected. Two burgers, 2 fries, and 2 sodas was around $35. However, I will definitely be back and look forward to trying their Loco moco next time.“
“Great fish, priced as expected.Gluten free soy sauce on hand! (Tamari) Celiac safety: I avoided the wasabi, rice and rolls, went straight for the sashimi. This always works at sushi restaurants for me.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free & celiac safe“
“Very nice view of the water. Our waitress Sam was very good, making sure that we were taking care of and explained the menu items very well. The Ono and scallops are outstanding. The wasabi cream sauce was unlike any other I’ve ever tasted. Save room for dessert, and or after dinner drink because they are top-notch. Thank “
“I got the classic style. A hearty portion for $13.95. The well-cooked rice and slightly vinegared rice are perfect for the soy sauce-based poke. The flavor wasn't too strong, and the 1 scoop of ube salad (?) that came with it was a nice complement. The store clerk's sister was friendly and nice.Tried classical style poke. I love the taste of Sumeshi (vinegared rice? not sure ). Of course the flavor of soy source of poke♥️. One of the best poke shops??“
