Ok this is the first time we are trying Zippy's despite the low reviews. We saw them on Oahu but never went. Then after research this is the place for chili and rice?! Must try! So happy there was one in Hilo when we were heading back from the Volcanoes. It was Easter Sunday and no one was inside except for 2 tables. No frills dated diner decor but our server was awesome. Our daughter and sister had to go here after hearing recommendations from friends. We were not disappointed! With 10 of us, we tried a variety of items. Fried chicken, spaghetti, teriyaki beef, Zippy's Samin, and coconut cake were our favorites. The waitress was so efficient - she took our orders without writing them down. Our first Zippy's and the wait staff made this a highly pleasant experience, plus the food was very good too. Korean fried chicken was delicious. Zip Pac was flavorful. Chili was surprisingly delicious and comparable to Cincinnati-style chili (aka Skyline/Gold Star).
