Don't miss these Honolulu Mexican restaurant gems.
“TLDR: 10/10 recommend the Carne Asada burrito and Carne Asada Quesadilla.Wanted to wait until I was able to visit a few times before making a review. But this place has some of the best burritos in town. 10/10 would recommend if visiting from the west coast and wanting that authentic style burritos. Also they have great homemade salsas to choose from that pair very well with each dish. Also highly recommend the quesadillas if you aren’t in the mood for a burrito.Parking: I recommend parking in the Whole Foods parking lot and walking across the street.“
“Tlacuaches 808 is an amazing take-out restaurant hidden away in the back of Eaton Square! We ordered carne asada salad and tacos, and both were outstanding. We didn't expect to find good Mexican food in Waikiki, and were pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, we only found it in our last night in Honolulu, but had we found it earlier, we would have eaten there every evening. The portions were large, and the prices the most reasonable that anywhere we found in Waikiki. We had as salad and tacos, both with Carne Asada, and both were amazing. The salsas were also excellent. It closes early, so get there early. It was also closed on Wednesdays. There are common tables that you can eat at, it was pouring rain so we just took it back to our hotel.“
“Bruh bruh BRUH! Now, this place is a hole in the wall that needs to be celebrated and supported beyond all means! It is small, maybe seating for just a few people, but don't let that stop you. Get yours to go if need be, just go. Braddah behind the counter is living his dream, and besides being super nice, he has created some delicious food! This stuff is the bomb. This is now my first consideration for future mexican food desires. I had the mexican hamburger burrito (smothered, duh!), and the plate overfloweth. Definitely worth the price, and it was quite the struggle to finish all of it because there was so much, but I managed to do so in one sitting. It was delicious. Roll the dice for streetside parking, but there's also parking lot just a little ways walking distance on the corner of Nu'uanu and Vineyard. We'll be back, Tio!“
“We were looking for something authentic and not too expensive. We came across this place and we were not disappointed. The parking is a little difficult but the food is worth it. The employee at the front who took our order was so nice and gave his recommendations which were so delicious. I've attached some of our order so you can see just how delicious this food looks! We will recommend this place to everyone!“
“I accidentally came during happy hour, which is from 2pm-4pm but I’m glad I did! I got a carne asada taco for $3 and this came with free chips and salsa. I didn’t care for the salsa it came with but I loved the salsas from the salsa bar. The salsa verde and the orange one were so full of flavor. Cheapest meal I had during my visit!“
“LET ME TELL YOU. I’m from San Diego and have had some of the best Mexican food offered on the mainland. I moved out here and can NOT find good Mexican food like I’m used to. BUT MY MAN OSCAR (who runs the stand) cooked up some FIRE tacos and a DELICIOUS Birria Quesadilla. Super nice guy and he can cook? You’ll see me here every Tuesday without a doubt.“
“Found this little gem our last night in Honolulu January 20, 2024. A.T. the manager made it happen last minute for a table of 9 before we were heading back to Alaska. He was such an amazing host. The food was fantastic! When my 85 yr old mom likes the food… that says A LOT!! Will for sure return again!! Definitely recommend!!!“
“We were just randomly looking for dinner and googling around for Mexican places and found Tapas Kitchen. The food truck is located in a quiet small street with a few small tables on the side walk. The two of us ordered the birria taco, short rib plate, and acai smoothies. The food was delicious I like my short rib plate and like how the rice was flavored.Smoothie was good not too sweet with a little ice doggy on top of the drink it was so cute . The older lady who took our order and prepped the food was super nice. Not too many days left in Hawaii but would definitely go back to try more items on the menu if we get a chance to!“
“Food is authentic Hispanic ! The owner can even speak Spanish ..... great friendly atmosphere with entire family working together. I ordered taquitos they were so delicious and crispy. Fantastic sauce on top was beautiful on presentation. It looked as good as it tasted as I ate all of it :) They are open on Christmas ! Open till 1 AM on Friday and Saturday nights“
“Finally was able to make it here during our Oahu vacation, they open early and close at 3 and we kept forgetting that lol Ordered steak street tacos and a steak quesadilla. The steak is flavorful, and isn't chewy. Green salsa is great and they have different hot sauces The quesadillas is a good size and has all the fixings Definitely worth the stop, we will be returning to try their breakfast burritos“
“The team gives a great effort. The taste is as good as it gets outside Mexico for some tacos and quesadillas. They could put more meat in the tacos and double the tortilla if they are charging $5 a taco. The quesadilla was well filled. Pretty quick service. Salsa is a spicy. Give them a try next time you crave some Mexican. Practice your español!“
“Best Mexican food on Oahu!!I typically only review a place based off its food. But I can't help but share how kind and friendly the owners are! Excellent service and EVEN better food. I gotta say, it's been tough finding good Mexican food on Oahu. If you are in need of tasty tacos or big delicious burritos, this should be your new go to spot! I am so thankful to have found this taqueria!!“
“Best tacos! Something so special about how they make them, I believe it’s the seasoning of the meat and the salsas. And the extra care put into making sure food is fresh and hot. They give you a good amount of food so you are always left satisfied! A must try!“
“I love this place! i have been here a few times before writing my review and i can safely say that i have had great service consistently every single time! i have been here with just a party for two and also have celebrated a family members birthday here, they are accommodating to both large and small parties. they have great servers and great food. i love the ambiance of the outdoor/indoor seating. The decor is well executed and best of all, its reasonably priced. I highly recommend reservations but you can also just walk in. if its the weekend though, it might be a long wait.“
“The bestest! I love this ceviche with a passion. The tostados are amazing, too. Perfectly seasoned, served extra cold, this ceviche is refreshing, satisfying, healthy and delicious. I always pick up a shrimp ceviche, fresh salsa and tostados when I make it to the Kailua farmers market. Perfect pupu along side an iced cold beer.“
“A very pleasant experience, and truly the best Loco Moco I’ve ever tried. Highly recommend the garlic shrimp as well.Place can be busy, but service is quick, so we didnt have to wait long for a table of 8. We all loved our orders!Kid-friendliness: We had 2 toddlers in our party, and they were able to offer us a high chair and booster seat! They have a kid’s menu, which was great, and they provided them with plastic cups :)“
“Have you ever been here? I have walked by drunk or going to be drunk many times. It is a hole in the wall that only has lunch service and only take out. To be here that long they must be doing something right. The food was so good. I got the Chile Verde Wet Burrito. It is so ono. Will be heading there more for lunch!“
“Ok so we do travel for work we are gone 280days a yr my favorite is Mexican food been all around the US and also have tried Cpl Mexican places in Hawaii this is by far the best food place around there lots of trucks with different types of food so your entire family can get Specialty foods of all types but your eating at a picnic table not so clean but it’s not so clean but worth it.“
“It was a nice day to eat outside on the pier. There was a nice breeze and the faint scent of the different cultural food variations cooking. I came after 4:30 on a Friday and not too many people were present. I ordered the Barbacoa Cachete Burrito. The burrito was huge!! It was filled with rice, beans and beef. It had salsa, but I wish it had just a bit more. The rice was nice and fluffy like Spanish rice should be. This burrito will need to be split even for the super hungry or half of it saved for another meal. Definitely coming back here. I am more than satisfied. I am ready for a nap.“
“Wanted to support the local food trucks and glad we did....I had the bean chimichanga and it was big! Filled with beans and cheese...but you can definitely get meat of your choice. My friend had the steak street tacos and said they were delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They definitely showed Aloha! We passed by this food truck a few times and glad we stopped to have a bite. If you are wanting Mexican food, definitely give it a try!“
