Beautifully restored old building. If you're looking for a place downtown, you should seriously consider Hotel Fort Des Moines.

The rooms were really nice, but there was a stain on my sheets. I called the room service and they fixed my problem immediately! Recommend staying here!

Got a decent room on the third floor with a great view of the air conditioning vents on the building across the street. The room had a funky nacho cheese smell (probably from all the nacho chips I ate) but I didn’t mind it that much. I also left some cheetos for the next person (they’re in the fridge if you want them) but I sure do hope that nobody leaves behind their breast milk in the fridge for someone else that would be gross.

I came here for a girl's trip and this was the best hotel service I think I've ever had. All the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. The chef at the restaurant Proudfoot & Bird even came out and asked us how the meal was and if they could do anything to improve...the food was amazing! I would highly recommend for anyone traveling to Des Moines.

I stayed here completely blind for a local recruiting visit and this place blew me away. Quiet, clean, professional, and neat as a pin. I like the touches of old and new. Nothing was amiss, dirty or worn. The gym was one of the best I’ve seen, Nice restaurants attached, helpful front desk staff. Unsure what more I could ask. Room was comfy and perfect for my needs. I will gladly stay here for any future stay in Des Moines.

Disappointed. The room wasn’t very clean the shower was awkward and needed cleaning. The hotel valet charged us for parking when it was free. NOT COOL. No restaurant recommendations. It was our Anniversary we told the front desk but no box of chocolates or free champagne. It was have been a nice gesture. Their hotel store doesn’t carry aspirin. No souvenir stores inside the hotel. No handicap access to the upper floors of the hotel nor do they offer info on how to get around. Not worth the price. The restaurant did have good food but not worth the cost.

The location is central and the design of the hotel is beaitiful, one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. All was good for me except that I lost nearly all of my jewelry on the trip after room service except for the one I was wearing at the time, including necklaces amd earrings. While I probably should not have left them on that bathroom sink, it is still a low point that they are lost. When I asked the hotel about it, the person answered implied that I must have thrown all of them to the trash to be the only reason that they could be removed by housekeeping which makes me pretty mad. It was definitely not true.Even afterwards when I pressed for checking again several times, I received excuses (we will check with housekeeping when they are back, etc.) instead of actual answers. It is not surprising but it definitely sour the trip for me and my impression of the service.
Our stay was fantastic! The hotel is absolutely beautiful, great service and amenities. If you are in town whether you stay or not, it’s worth your time to check out the lobby or check out the hidden Speakeasy. We stayed 3 nights dinned at the hotel and walked to a couple of the fantastic restaurants nearby. I’m so glad we choose this hotel, the experience was wonderful!!Rooms: Beautiful and very clean.Nearby activities: Dinning, bars, anything you could think of is close by. We dined and cocktailed every night within walking distanceSafety: I grew up in Des Moines in the 70s and 80s. Left in ‘92. It’s amazing what Des Moines is today. It’s a destination for us now. The town is clean, beautiful and safe.Walkability: Easy to get aroundFood & drinks: Excellent- breakfast and drinks. We did not dine at the Proudfoot & Bird restaurant but will next time for sure!Noteworthy details: The historical and architectural details are wonderful! Loved all the old details, tiled floors, the elevators, so fun!

Beautiful, well-maintained hotel. Remodeled from old, early 1900's hotel. Retained the character and architecture of the building and modernized the interior with very tasteful, high-end decor. Rooms were clean, bright, and updated. Extremely friendly staff. Hotel restaurants are on the expensive side, but there are plenty of great, affordable restaurants within walking distance. No parking on-site, but there is a friendly valet service for $33/day. There are also several self-parking garages nearby. We used the Brown Towers building parking deck (building across the street) for $11/day.

I lived in the adjacent/connecting building for a couple of years and at times have needed to get accommodation while moving or doing work/projects in the apartment. My partner and I have at least 10 nights between us. Most of them were marred by the hotels paradoxical inability to meet its own commitments (rooms ready at 4, breakfast included, room service) and paired unwillingness to meet any special requests by us (Early check in has never been granted, and the concierge is pretty useless.) What’s most disappointing is the hotel seems to be constantly overwhelmed, they do occasionally get full, but living next-door we, literally, had a massive floor to ceiling window peering into this hotel and it’s frequently empty, never as busy as the front desk implies, and if you ever have an issue with your room or billing, you will not be made right. Only on one occasion after an undue amount of effort on my part has this place ever acknowledged its inconveniencing existence. I booked through a third party they (the hotel) double billed me, and this took months, including repeat in person visits to the front desk, to resolve. This place reeks of some special kind of organizational incompetence, there are a ton of wonderful staff here, and they are wasted by the people running this place. If you are traveling to Des Moines I strongly recommend you take your business to one of the local hotels.

The spaces are very nice, however check in was a pain and our room was not ready at 3 when they said it would be. We were asked if we wanted housekeeping since it was multiple night stay. I said yes but housekeeping never showed during our stay.

Absolutely AMAZING hotel!!! Talk about vintage luxury! They have taken a vintage 1919 hotel and brought it all the way into the 21st century while keeping it fully engulfed in a high-end historical design! They seem to have considered every single detail down to the modern key locks and historical room number designs, the classic lights paired with modern functionality. There was so much to see and enjoy in this room and hotel!!!!The room had every amenity you would need for a short or long stay. Kuereg coffee maker, fridge, safe, and LOADS of space for storage. Not to mention the customer service was TOP NOTCH!!!! Definitely will mark this as my go to hotel for Des Moines!!!
I ate at Hobnob and enjoyed the beautiful architecture of the lobby.
Fantastic staff & gorgeous boutique hotel. Can't wait to stay again.
