Drinks were pretty good. $18 for three not so spectacular tacos is a robbery. Ambiance doesn’t Eden make up for it either which is sad. Waitress messed up my tacos order and after bringing us the correct order (I told ger I tv was fine but she insisted on fixing it) she was cold t he test of the service, didn’t even look us in the eye when dropping off the check. Thought that was strange. Overall think it is way overpriced for what it is.

4.2 We have been coming here since the beginning, mostly Friday afternoons into evenings at the bar drinking and a Nosh. The reboot, was a flop, the amount of really good staff that have been lost is shocking and still, I love it. Most recently yesterday and with the lovely Katie as a bartender it was another great experience. I hope it lasts forever but it sure looks like it could use a boost. Good job!

Happy hour is our favorite here and we love sitting at the bar. Fast and efficient service. The last few times we have came Amanda has taken GREAT care of us. Great recommendations and delicious drinks. Highly recommend the chorizo and cheese empanadas and nachos on happy hour!

It has been a while since we came into MALO, but we had a fantastic time tonight. Food came out timely, everything we ordered was wonderful. Staff friendly and attentive, and our server Ally made our night. We will be back again soon.

Incredible experience! Our first time coming to Malo was for a birthday party of one of our friends - it was lovely getting to try their queso & salsa mixes & sharing with the table. 100% would recommend for an appetizer, as it's very share size friendly! I also selected the taco mix & match & was pleasantly surprised with all the different types & flavors one could select from!! Their alcoholic beverages were amazing & the service was very friendly for such a large party handled it well!

Our absolute favorite restaurant in Des Moines! As a vegetarian I love that they have numerous vegan options on the menu. I am obsessed with the crispy onion and avocado tacos and the vegan burrito!

Bartenders were very slow, several people left while waiting to get served...had two bartenders and they were not in a hurry to serve.

Came all the way from Hammond Indiana to pick up a friend and ran into this Gem! The Mgr straight out the door Jen was amazing and like, genuine/real. Educated us on the history of the building (firehouse) which was cool. I came in with two non English speaking indigenous friends and they loved the pork belly tacos & shrimp a la crema. The service was good. When we all walked in & felt a bit underdressed and out of place but the staff & food took our mind off of that, we felt very welcomed. Great experience and great representation of downtown De Moines or Iowans for that matter. Thanks Ms. Jen Ps: Dessert - Churro w ice cream & the fruit w cream were Bomb AF! ‍ The chocolate cake was too sweet but I'm not that into chocolate so maybe a chocolate lover would like it.,.. ALSO: we're Mexican. We approve of this restaurant

I'm sitting here, freezing cold for some reason (seriously, is the heat out?). Eating 7 shrimp I paid $27 for, an amount that's even harder to swallow when I realized that there's no complimentary chips and salsa (what sort of place charges for chips and salsa?). Sure there's some rice and beans on the plate too, but not nearly in enough quantity to justify the cost. Why is this review not lower than 3 stars? Because those 7 shrimp are so unbelievably good. 10/10 shrimp in a 10/10 sauce.(One last kick in the teeth on the way out: a 2.75% credit card surcharge that's not listed anywhere on the menu)

A small group of us came in Saturday night. I have to say that I was very impressed with the service, the food, and the manager who stopped by twice to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!!

Good food, big portions, long wait!! Staff was not attentive and slow! Didn't clear appetizers dishes, didn't refill waters and didn't ask if we wanted more drinks. Tables were not stable and moved if you leaned on them.
