Food is excellent. Ask for Melinda as your server. She was hilarious

This place is amazing!! Great food, great pricing and excellent customer service. Check out their family deals for under $30!! Pollo Penne is our favorite!

In years past this was a good place to eat. I will not eat there again after getting the seafood extravaganza that was extremely expensive and only had a couple of chunks of imitation crab. The owner is rude and doesn't deserve my business.

Baratta's Restaurant is one of the best choices in the Des Moines area for excellent service, food and hospitality! My family has been dining at this hidden gem for MANY years and we plan to for MANY more. The Chicken Carbonara is delicious, as is the pepper cheese soup, cavatelli, fried chicken and pizza! There is literally something for everyone at this family friendly restaurant. During these times of Covid-19, it is obvious that this restaurant is doing its very best for all. The staff is following CDC guidelines in every area...facemasks, social distancing, offering of curbside carryout. This will always be one of my favorite restaurants anywhere! Give it a try! You will want to come back again and again!

Back 10-20 years ago, this was a fine and very delicious place to eat. Since then I have ate there approximately 5 or 6 times. Each one of those times, the food faste and flavor is pretty basic. Today, the meatloaf was just fair.....Grilled chicken salad was large but the chicken was not grilled...it was basically cold strips of chicken breast.. The tenderloin was a basic processed meat tenderloin not something original with good flavor...Services was very good and friendly. I would recommend looking for something much better. This place is living off of it's legacy now.

This is a hidden gem with the most amazing choices for dinner. We had a hard time choosing what to eat but the recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed pesto dishes, fettuccine, veal, salad. Extremely worthwhile to go.

A little off the beaten path one of Des Moines classic neighborhood Italian restaurants. It has an interesting history the restaurant actually was a home of the Barrata family and they turned it into a restaurant in Italian grocery store. They got all the business maybe 25 years ago and sold it to 3 Lincoln high graduates who are still operating the restaurant. it's on Union avenue very close to indianola avenue close to the old Italian Part of Des Moines. If you've never been you might want to try for lunch it's got great lunch and specials, great Italian specials and wonderful sandwiches. The house salads are wonderful spring lettuce with a variety of dressing choices. They make excellent cocktails and since I'm retired I had a bloody Mary with my lunch and it was great. My friends are regulars there and can't say enough about it. I had the chicken Amaggio which was the lunch special it was wonderful. Marinated chicken breast with light bread crumbs broiled, served over linguine and mushrooms with in Amaggio sauce. A friend had the Italian beef and it was outstanding and another friend had a meatball sandwich which was also outstanding. They have pizza if you should want it but I would go with the Italian sandwiches and they have wonderful salads too! Did not even get into dinner which is a whole other experience and I will cover some time with an additional review well worth the trip. if you're young person check it out if you're a person of a certain age and you've never been check it out. You won't be disappointed!

First time eating here and was able to locate the restaurant, even though it is off the beaten path. The Lasagna was excellent and the menu was full of good entrees and I'm sure everything tastes wonderful. The restaurant is built along a busy street amongst homes in the neighborhood. I would suggest trying this place as you will not regret it. Will be back!!

For a city that is void of good places to eat, Baratta's is the exception. Nestled in a middle class neighborhood off of South 9th street (about 2 miles south of downtown) this place is very good! We were a party of 4 and appetizers were toasted Raviolis and the antipasto. The raviolis were ok (my town has some of the best that can't be beat) the antipasto was fantastic. Menu said enough for 2, we had more than enough and the selection on the plate was excellent! Dinner I had the Amaggio (house favorite) which is a nice chicken breast, dipped in egg batter, rolled in bread crumbs and grilled. Served over a bed of linguini in a garlic white wine sauce with garlic. Also included were tomatoes and mushrooms. Good hot dish and packed full of flavor. Others in my group had lasagna, manicotti and chicken parm...all delicious. I also had a house pinot nour that was an abundant pour and good. When visiting Des Moines, this is a must eat place.

Baratta’s is one of our favorite eateries; I usually take my wife there for either our anniversary or her birthday. The food is great and always has been, and the staff are nice people offering nice service.

We went to Baratta’s for a family birthday dinner as my son wanted good Italian food. We did have reservations and were seated immediately. We ordered the onion rings and scallops for appetizers. The onion rings were crispy and light on the breading and just right. Scallops were ok and pricey. Not worth it. Salads were cold and crisp with the best house dressing - creamy garlic! Union Bakery bread and butter, perfect. Lasagna a bit spicy with lots of gooey cheese and generous portion. Chicken Ammagio was cooked perfect and generous portion as well. Portobello mushroom with pasta was good but have had better. My son was treated to a complimentary dessert and he had the orange layer cake - very sweet and creamy frosting. Wait staff was attentive. Atmosphere was quiet as the room was not crowded which made it nice for conversation. Baratta’s always has great food and great service. Definitely worth the trip - don’t get lost!

Very nice menu selection. All the favorite dishes plus sandwiches, salads and pizza. Domestic and imported beers are available. Really don't have a favorite dish since they are all good. Friendly staff and good service. Check out their website before you go.
