“Wow - an absolutely perfect bar experience. If you like Bar Goto in NYC, this is like turning that experience up a couple of notches. Flawlessly executed cocktails, bar food executed with great precision, and an ambience that would easily have me believe this was transported straight from Japan.“
“Sushi San is my favorite Sushi restaurant in the Chicago area. (I literally go AT LEAST once a week) It is pricey, but I never regret it. The spicy Tuna Aburi is amazing. The rice bowls are to die for. Drinks are fantastic. Service is top notch. The low lighting makes it perfect for a date night, or a night out with friends before going wild in River North.I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this place.Make reservations as it can get pretty busy.I love you Sushi San ?“
“2023 update: our first experience with the sushi here was impressive, but we have since ordered a few more times and I have to say that the food has been inconsistent. It's not bad and it's still a good value (esp. the party trays) , but it also hasn't lived up to that first tray the last few times we tried it. YMMV.Original review:Super friendly and helpful staff, fast delivery, and amazing sushi. Great value, too. My wife and I have lived in South Loop for years and have tried probably a dozen sushi restaurants in the area. This one is a little far from us so we didn't try it until today, but we were blown away by how tasty it was, especially given the affordable pricing and laid-back vibe.We got the Roll Out platter for ourselves and some friends. It's an incredible value for the amount of sushi included, and every roll was delicious. Fish portions were large and very fresh. A substantial part of the platter is "spicy" rolls which I was a little worried about - many sushi places grind up the meat into a mushy paste mixed with who-knows-what, but not here. These were easily the best spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail rolls I've ever had - they're good-sized bits of quality meat mixed with a delicious spicy mayo sauce. No meat paste. They were delightful.Anyway, we may have found a new favorite sushi spot. I just wish we had tried it sooner!“
“I was running slightly behind so I reached out to the text only line. They were able to allow an extra 5 mins grace. When we came in, it was so welcoming! My party and others were seated in front of our chef where they hand made several sushi pieces. It was so yummy and such a fun experience. Super delicious and we had a nice drink package as well! This was my first omakase experience and I loved it. At the end, we were able to ask the chef to make some of our fav pieces from the experience a la carte. I want to bring my family; definitely recommend!“
“Food was mostly good, but very overpriced. Did not feel like the quality was top notch for being one of the best outposts for fresh sushi from Japan. The hand rolls were all somewhat soggy, the nori was not that crisp sheet you expect from a hand roll. Probably would not come back unless begged to.“
“Q Sushi absolutely lives up to the reviews. The atmosphere is cute, not stuffy or pretentious, and very welcoming. The service was phenomenal. Really personable, friendly staff. We did the omakase menu and everything was fantastic and we were SO full by the end. 5 stars all around.“
“Delicious food and extraordinary service. We arrived an hour earlier than expected and they were able to squeeze us in. The waitress also provided amazing recommendations that we normally would not have tried! Especially the edamame spread. Will definitely come back for future occasions.“
“Awesome veggie maki rolls. I’m usually very hesitant to try new places because I love my regular spot but I’m so glad I did. The lunch special prices are amazing. Cant recommend enough.Update: if I could eat here every day, I would. One of my new favorite restaurants in the entire city.“
“The restaurant's elegant decor impresses, complemented by attentive service. The artful presentation and the fresh, delightful sushi stand out, marrying traditional and innovative flavors beautifully. Moreover, the pricing is fair, making for an excellent dining experience that promises both quality and value. Highly recommended.“
“Yuzu Sushi and Robata is located on the cutest street in West Town of Chicago. It’s a sushi art spot that blends Japanese traditional dishes with a little artistry. Check out our sushi roll. This spot was founded in 2011 by Yut Vong, who transitioned from a career in political journalism to the food service industry! We got the spicy edamame, tater tots, hamachi and jalapeño small roll and the River Walk Roll! Look at the art work it comes with. Wow! All were excellent.I loved the buzz in this restaurant. It wasn’t loud but everyone was conversing. Not a lot of people are on their phones. A nice change!“
“Such a unique and intimate experience! The chefs and service all friendly, and lovely to take a shot with. The sushi absolutely outstanding and makes my week every time I go! If you haven’t had sushi omakase before, come here and it will literally be a life changing experience. You won’t see sushi the same.“
“Sayuri sushi is the best restaurant sushi spot around!! The friendliness of the folks who work there is unmatched. The food is amazing (highly recommend the sweet potato maki, Philly roll, veggie egg roll) and the prices are so good. We go there at least once a week. But most importantly, I can’t stress enough how kind the people who work there are!“
“The sea food was the freshest possible and the 2 rolls I had, with soft shell crab and eel were of exquisite taste. Appetizers were delicious, especially the rich green salad with ginger dressing. The dry cold sake, recommended by the waiter, was very good, their list being impressive.“
“I did takeout and this is some of THE BEST veggie ramen I have had! The broth is amazing! My only note is that they do not put your ramen together in a large takeout bowl. So make sure you have your own larger bowl at home available! Also the beef bao is very tasty!Dietary restrictions: GF noodle option for ramen.“
“Ora has downright the best oysters I have ever had. On a cold winter night in the heart of a blizzard, I tasted this dish and it changed me. It made me a happy diner when I had been a cold, miserable, gritty Chicagoan!! Then I had the sushi, which was also amazing, and the staff was truly kind and skilled. I’m so excited to go back.“
“Needed a quick bite in the UIC area and came across this newer restaurant. Experience from ordering to going back to my desk to eat it was phenomenal! Look at their craftsmanship in take out! Amazing!Kid-friendliness: It looked like they had options for children on the menu and table covers for kids.“
“TenGoku Abuirya offers a great selection of Japanese food in an intimate and woodsy setting. I particularly enjoyed the maze soba and the variety of skewers available, with the Shio Pork Belly being a standout. The nigiris also tasted super fresh with high-quality fish cuts. The one skewer we did not enjoy is the Chadol enoki which fell short in flavor and had a watery texture in the middle. While the meal leaned toward the pricier side (above $50 per person), the majority of dishes were delicious, and I would gladly return for the quality of the nigiri alone.“
“We really liked Sushi Hall. The crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizer was great as were the rolls we got. The only disappointment was the dessert we ordered. The mochi donuts with ice cream was a real letdown. The donuts were hard and had no real taste.“
“The food was great as well as the atmosphere/decor of the restaurant. The noodles were flavorful and well prepared. The only issue that dampened our experience was the attitude of the waitress. She seemed almost bothered that we were there. When asked where the restroom was she just waved off into the distance and wouldn’t actually speak to us. She made us feel very uncomfortable. The male server on staff switched with her and he was wonderful but at that point we just got our food to go and left.“
“Sushi sushi sushi, endless sushisushi on a boat, sushi in my coatSushi with the eel, sushi I would stealSushi that I ate, sushi was so greatSushi in a roll, sushi in a bowlSushi was all gone, sushi was the donSushi here and there, sushi sushi everywhere“
“The food was incredible we loved everything we ordered.I got Emerald Gyoza, the garden veggie Maki, and garlic edamame. My friends got the burger, corn fritters with shrimp and chicken skewers. I don’t eat meat, so I can’t comment on their dishes, but I can say that they were raving about them and we all love the vegetarian items.Vegetarian options: They had an entirely separate vegetarian vegan menu, which was very helpful“
“We visited on President's Day, and it was a very cool experience. The whole staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and fresh, we had the veggie gyoza and the Yasai bowl, and it was incredible. The vibe was also great, they were playing bossanova covers of popular songs. Highly recommend??“
“Fantastic spot for a delicious and enjoyable Japanese meal ?!!!Ekiben was a wonderful dining experience! From the moment I walked in.... the atmosphere was cosy and inviting. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering recommendations on the menu.I had the salmon teriyaki don. It tasted so fresh and flavorful. The ingredients were perfectly cooked and delightful ?.While the food was delicious, I'm also very optimistic that they will continue to innovate and introduce exciting new dishes in the future. ? For example, chef's choice section on the menu where they can showcase their culinary creativity, or loyalty program to reward frequent customers would be excellent (hopefully I don't ask them too much?)I truly enjoyed my experience at Ekiben, and I will definitely revisit and try another dish ?.“
“Every time I visit Chicago, I only come here to eat. The hospitality, the team, the food is top notch! They treat you like family and have incorporated great recipes that leaves you wanting more. you can really taste the passion and care that team puts into their food. If you’re ever in town, you will not be disappointed by this family owned business that puts tremendous love and care into their dishes.“
“First time trying this place. It did not disappoint! The staff member was very nice. The matcha flavor puff was excellent and the cumulus cloud drink was very good as well! I got my drink 50% sweet and it was plenty sweet. The only thing I didn’t love was their choice of music. Otherwise, I would highly recommend checking this place out!“
“Loved my experience at Gorilla Sushi with my two girlfriends. We ordered the spicy miso soup, edamame, and several of the rolls. Our server was T, and she was so kind and helpful. Our favorites were the Mexican, the spicy tuna, the Godzilla roll, and the volcano roll. Thank you T and staff for providing us 6 plates of ginger also!“
“A quaint little omakase experience tucked in a corner of a hotel. I had the bougie experience and it was well worth the price. The cocktails were amazing and the sake pairings were on point. If I had to make any complaint it would be that the event space didn't have any foot rests on the baseboards of the bar. Overall a very enjoyable experience, me and my wife will definitely be coming back.“
“Went to try this place for my 1st time. When I went in I wasn't sure if I was in the right place. They have construction going on inside and there wasn't a name on the building or inside. Felt confused if I was in some type of office warehouse or something not sure. But I have to admit their food was amazing ?. They have so many choices to pick from. I definitely will be going back to try different plates. The price for the bowls is fair not over priced.“
“Best BYOB sushi in west town, located close to liquor store. They have endless selection of rolls from simple maki to signature rolls. The variety will blow your mind - no kidding! The staff is very friendly and food comes out quickly from the kitchen. We like to dine in here or order pick “
“Nuki Sushi serves some of the best sushi in Chicago. It's totally fresh, offers an amazingly large and original selection of sushi, sashimi, maki and other dishes. If that weren't enough, the service is superb, prices are incredibly reasonable, and it's BYOB. It is a real gem.“
“Was quite pleasantly surprised by my delicious visit to Poke Poké. Started with a delicious, and larger than expected, miso soup before chowing down on a spectacular unagi bowl. The condiments served in the bowl paired perfectly with the dish.“
“The variety and healthy choices keep me coming back to Poke Okie. Whether I'm really hungry or just want a drink, this place is great. I love the Blue Avocado smoothie and I like the options in building my own sushi bowl. The place is modern and the staff are very friendly.“
“I went in because I was craving affordable sushi and wanted to try a new place. To my surprise no sushi offered at this time :( Oh well. I was suggested the lunch special. It was a good deal and was fresh. General Tso's Chicken- The chicken was juicy with a nice crisp breading. The sauce was tangy, sweet and spicy! Yum :) The rice had a really good onion flavor with the right wok char. Not greasy and will leave you feeling good and satisfied. As for the location I found free street parking across the street. The place was quiet and clean.“
“Fun, lively, and cozy atmosphere.Food is delicious and quick.Service on the slower side even with reservations still waited for table 15minWould recommendWaygu roll has gold flakes how funRolls and sashimi are fresh and deliciousSake selection is excellent“
“Had it for a work lunch, and was not disappointed. Tasty bread, tasty housemade chips, plenty of options. The fruit sando I got was somewhat lacking in fruit, however, which would be my one criticism.Great people work there, and they're all very friendly, I recommend checking it out.“
“I never really think much of the service and atmosphere ratings here on Google reviews but both at Kai Zan truly were top notch. As a birthday gift, my brother took me to try omakase for the first time, and it was a very cool food experience. Seeing the chefs and waiters and hosts do their thing was like watching a performance. I watched as the staff meticulously reset the table for the next people - everything perfectly placed down to the centimeter. The way they’re able to time everything is incredible too.My favorite of the courses was the very first and the shooters - very unique. The others were good but I appreciated the creativity of those. Very beautiful dishes and we were seated at the bar so we had a front row seat to watching the chefs cook (highly recommend). We also ordered the yuzu cheesecake and ube pound cake (unlisted) for dessert. At the end I wasn’t stuffed but I was content. A really great first omakase experience!“
“As visitors to Chicago from California this was a huge surprise. Lively and the food was delicious. We couldn't stop ordering. Hand rolls ginormous. Lychee Martini's I can never find but Umai has them! Didn't hurt we could walk from our hotel.“
“The sushi was surprising, innovative and delicious! Sake flight was a highlight. Seating was comfy and our waitress was super nice. It could have been a tad darker in there in terms of lighting.Would recommend trying a classic maki as well as one of the four-piece sashimi options. (I was skeptical of fish wrapped around fruit, but after one bite I was a believer ? I was also a fan of the pickled onion and scallion in the maki) Our favorite signature was the red dragon.“
“Not bad! Food and service were both good, nothing to complain about but not amazing. We got beef skewers and scallop skewers and they were a little tough and chewy. We enjoyed the sushi more, the fish was fresh, although the rice tasted slightly cold/refrigerated, which I don’t love. We had the tuna on chip appetiser which was probably our favorite since the tuna was so fresh.“
“Wow! Chef Park is a Michelin Star chef for a reason. The Omakase was out of this world. Best sushi I've ever eaten and the service was top-notch from the moment we entered until the time we left. Other reviewers have said they felt rushed -- I thought the timing and pacing was perfect. Chef Park is a very humble chef and his skills are worthy of the Michelin Star. We will definitely be back again and again and again.“
“We went for happy hour while in Chicago. The happy hour prices were great and the food was excellent. Actual menu prices were quite high, but I guess that's the price you pay for a nice sushi place in river north. Would definitely come back for happy hour!“
“We had reservations for this spot with a friend. First off, totally love the ambiance and decor of Momotaro. Really good upscale vibes. The service was amazing. Waters always filled and the waitress helped us with the menu. She even gave her recommendations. We ended up ordered a Chef's Seasonal Nigiri. The server who brought the food explained what ever single piece of nigiri was which was a nice touch. My only complaint was just how expensive this place is. I guess it's expected since it is an upscale restaurant but $75 for 9 pieces of sushi seems excessive. I mean much cheaper than another famous sushi spot near by.Overall I recommend this spot for like a nice date night.“
“The food was fantastic and so was the service and it was only our first time here! I already signed up for the rewards system I’m sure we are gonna be regulars here from now on!Vegetarian options: They have spicy tofu teriyaki and lots of vegetablesDietary restrictions: They have gluten free on everything! It’s so convenientParking: Never had a problem finding a spaceKid-friendliness: Open seating for anyoneWheelchair accessibility: There’s a sidewalk with a ramp“
“Had a craving for good sushi and hubby found a nice cozy spot in the neighborhood. The service was great! We were the only ones in there. The owners were so sweet and friendly! The sushi was oh so yummy!! We definitely will be back! The price was reasonable and the portion was perfect!“
“Omakase is the way to go. Husband and I did the Decadent Omakase, and we both loved it! Some items were on the menu, and some were just created by the chef. This was such a fun experience! The service was great, both the waitress and the man that changed out the plates were excellent! The decor is a modern vibe, and there's an open kitchen with a charcoal fire. First course was Prime Beef Tataki, Toro Tartare, and Tempura Oysters. The first two are on the menu, and the third is a new creation. My favorite was definitely the toro, but the other two were great too. Everything was devoured happily. Second course was nigiri and sashimi. It was a mix of tuna, toro, and king salmon. Everything was fresh and delicious. Third course was sea bass with cherries, charcoal grilled broccoli rabe, and tempura lobster. This surprised us, but the broccoli rabe was spectacular. If you did this to every vegetable, no child would ever say they hated vegetables. I love lobster, especially tempura is my weakness, but that broccoli rabe was the star of this course. It's not on the menu, and it definitely should be. Tempura lobster was delicious, and the sea bass was good too. Fourth course was Mishima American Wagyu Sirloin (6oz), Bone Marrow, Truffle Aioli, Japanese Mushroom Rice Hot Pot with Black Truffle. The sirloin had the wonderful charcoal flavor, and that was scrumptious. The bone marrow toppings made it so good, but I have no idea what crack they put on it. The truffle aioli was a nice complement to it. The rice pot looks small, but it's all a trick. It's like the Harry Potter trick where you reach into a bag and can pull out a house. There's an abundance of mushroom rice, and this put us over the top. The rice was nice and very filling. Fifth and final course was a dessert platter. Molten Chocolate Cake with Nuts, Creme Puff with Matcha Cream, Sorbets, and Assorted Fruit. I absolutely loved the chocolate cake, because it was perfectly balanced. It's not too sweet, but wonderful chocolate flavor, and the nuts hidden on the bottom added the perfect texture. (I'm definitely stealing that idea when I make molten cake at home.) Cream puff was interesting, and I liked the matcha filling. The pastry could have been a tad bit softer, but I'm just being picky. The sorbets were both fantastic, especially as a palate cleanser. My favorite fruit was the dragon fruit. Very wonderful way to end the meal. This place is amazing. You should definitely do the omakase. Highly, highly recommend.“
“Absolutely amazing food and experience all around. Don't sleep on this one. The tataki kyuri is the best I've ever had, and that's including three trips to Japan. The hand rolls have perfect fish to rice ratios. Very high quality ingredients. Refreshing and boozy cocktails. Very friendly and engaging staff. Not a single thing I would change for this restaurant.Vegetarian options: I had a couple items that would be considered vegetarian, and those were some of the best items on the menu. I wouldn't say that there is a huge selection of veggie options, but the items that are, are incredible.Wheelchair accessibility: It was right off the street and they have a bar that didn't look too high. I could be wrong though.“
“I enjoyed a little quiet time alone at the bar. The "yellow mellow" sushi roll I ordered was bigger than I anticipated, which delighted me for the $15 price. I also tried spinach Ohitashi (daring choice for me) and enjoyed it.The photo was after I had begun eating, so the roll appears a little shorter.“
“Overall great experience. We went for an early dinner omakase experience and it did not disappoint. The chef mostly stuck to the menu except he gave us a fresh oyster at the beginning instead of Uni shooter. The whole meal was such a great experience, the fish were fresh and it was fun watching him prepare the food right in front of us. Their sake offerings were quite impressive. Highly recommend the omakase experience! It took us about 130-140 minutes to complete all 16 plates.Parking: Could easily find street parking within the block“
“Gigi is the absolute best. Customer service here is a 12/10 and the food matches. This is becoming one of my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago. Unexpected but honestly some of the best fish I've ever eaten. The value is definitely here in terms of quality and service.“
“My girlfriends and I thought this was a wonderful sharing experience! We made a trio girls day out of it, and got to share the double garlic app (all three of us absolutely are obsessed with roasted garlic and HAD to try), pork belly yakisoba, and two different types of pancakes. We also all got the lychee ? martinis, they are small but mighty. My favorite part about the desert that we got at the end, was the homemade ice cream that was inside of it! Their salted caramel ice cream and matcha ice cream is amazing! ?“
