If you haven't been for the Saturday Filet special, you're missing out. Fast service, with kindness and genuine interest. Love going to eat here!
Great service. Delicious caesar salad and a grilled cheese that adults would love. I need to return and try more of their menu. The croutons looked and tasted homemade and the chicken was great!
Fantastic experience, will try again.
Fast service, Excellent service great food, reasonable prices.
Our food was amazing and the staff was great!
What a little surprise! Cute little diner that has solid food. Anything on the menu is delicious and fairly priced but the secret is the dessert! Their pies make me miss my Grandma in a serious way! Best strawberry rhubarb pie I've had in 30 years. Not fine dining but what they're doing is fantastic! Just trust me and save room for pie!
One of my faves, especially their Tuesday menu, and you can't top Flo's pies (so good you even want to eat the crust!), iced cookies, and cupcakes. But go other days and save the country fried steak on Tuesdays for me!
If it's lunchtime and I'm close....I'm there!! Everything is delicious and the pies are as good as my grandma's.
Great food! And our server was so nice!
Great food, super cute place. Homemade pies and cookies!!! It's yummy, it's fun and I love coming here! Well worth the money in my opinion.
Foods always awesome. I’m just wondering if it would kill the older short haired blonde waitress to smile every now & then?? Would really make me feel more comfortable
Thank you to the entire staff of Coney Mckanes for the phenomenal services you provided us with yesterday, for my wedding day. Everything from the simple, relaxed atmosphere, to the outstanding food, fantastic service, and GORGEOUS wedding cake you gifted us with made our day so special, and beautiful. You truly went above and beyond for us, & we are fans for life. Everyone raved about the food, and how cozy and classy your restaurant is. Thank you to Bunny for officiating our ceremony. It was such a pleasure to meet you, and have you unite us in marriage. I am a simple, down to earth gal, and getting married at your restaurant felt unique, stress free, and comfortable. We are so glad we chose the staff of Coneys to share in our special day with us.
This place is excellent. Food was very good. The building is very old, kind of like a museum. Better to make reservations. Very crowded, but the wait wasn't bad. Food prices are very good. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that gets a chance to be in Decatur, Ill.
We were in town for a small event( first trip to Decatur) and tried to get in at 2 other places but due to short staff we had to go elsewhere. Ended up here. I wish we would have just found McDonalds. The Hot Roast Beef sandwich was full of globs of fat and congealed gravy. The meatloaf was tasteless and the green beans were canned. We did not mind the slow service since every restaurant is short on staff. But the food was very disappointing. I had to stop and buy some Rolaids on the way back to the hotel.
I'm told that Grandma Flo, the matriarch of the family that owns and operates Coney McKanes American Eatery in Decatur, Illinois, is 86 years old and still runs the kitchen. I can't confirm that report but whoever is running the kitchen is a first-class culinary magician. Located at 104 East Prairie Avenue, at Main Street, near the AgriSphere, Coney McKanes opened in 1997 and is open from 11 to 7:30 Monday through Thursday and 8 to 8 on Friday and Saturday. It is known for its American comfort food, including eggs, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches and made-from-scratch desserts with Flo's secret pie crust. My wife and I stopped by for lunch and started with bowls of baked potato soup and beef vegetable soup, Southwest egg rolls and four chicken tenders. The sandwich list was very tempting and varied. But which one? My wife settled for a Reuben with corned beef, provolone, sauerkraut and 1,000 Island dressing. She was very satisfied. I doubled up with a Coney's dog, a kosher hot dog with relish, mustard, onion, shredded cheddar cheese, tomato, sauerkraut and chili (how's that for a different take on a Chicago-style hot dog?) and a patty melt with sauteed onions, melted provolone cheese and 1,000 Island dressing on marble rye bread. For its size, Decatur has a lot of quality restaurants.
