Interesting setting. The only qualm I have is when I ordered the fried okra, they seasoned it spicy ? which I didn't asked ?

Stopped in on our way to Chicago. The wife had a pulled pork sandwich with green beans. I had a smoked turkey sandwich with fried okra. I guess I should not have ordered turkey at a place called The Humble Hog. The turkey was dry, very dry. So dry that I don't think it should have been served. I used lots of barbecue sauce to moisten it. The tomato-based barbecue sauce was tasty, but much sweeter than I prefer. My fried okra was perfectly cooked. DW loved the pork and the green beans were adequate. We both liked the buns used for the sandwiches. I would eat here again, but I would try the pork next time. Tip: on a cold day, don't eat in the first dining room. Go through the side door to the other dining room which was much warmer.

Not the place it used to beA bbq joint with no ribs on menu?Brisket only on Friday or Saturday?Out of pulled pork by 6pm?Everything on menu is alacarte? No 2 or 3 meat combo plates with a side?Interesting business model for a bbq restaurant

The pulled pork sandwich is probably the best I've ever had. The pork and sauce were absolutely amazing... thrown on the bun it's served on... everything together just melts in your mouth. Pretty big sandwich with a good size box of shoestring fries.... 100% worth the cost and the long empty drive to get there (depending on which route you take lol).

First tine going to Paxton for dinner (we always go to Gibson City, Mahomet, or Champaign when we're in IL) and of the places on Trip Advisor, we decided to give Humble Hog a try. My companion is originally from TX and is always disappointed that no oe in the Midwest does fried okra as a side. Seeing okra on the menu made her do a happy dance. We had "Paxton Punch" for drinks -- that stuff could be dangerous if you have a few. The brisket was really well done and didn't need any sauce. We will be back.

I really liked the atmosphere of this restaurant. It had a beautiful and artfully decorated dining room. The music, however, was REALLY loud; 1940s bluegrass, if I had to guess. The food was very good and the lady who took my order told me that everything on my tray, from the fork to the lid on my bowl was all made from corn and biodegradable. That was a real plus and it made me a little less annoyed with the somewhat high prices.

It had been some time since I had eaten there. So I was surprised at the changes. Now you order at the counter and pay for your meal. I should have asked for a menu but I could not see any. The barbecue beef brisket was wonderful. Next time I will ask for the sweet potato fries not to be so burnt. With my drink it came to $28 and change. The cups, plates, plastic tableware and cardboard box for the sweet potato fries were all throw away. That helps in not having to hire a dishwasher. Will I go back again? Yes! Only this timeI want to see a menu or prices posted.

Delicious BBQ. Driving on Hwy 57 north, we wanted a non-fast food place. I'm very glad we stopped in this quiet little town for lunch.

Great hidden gem. When in Paxton you must stop in. I had the pulled pork BBQ Nachos. A side of coleslaw. It was a vinegar style slaw. Pork had no fat so there was nothing to get rid of. Great flavor.

Excellent dining experience, staff was very welcoming and helpful making recommendations on the menu. Our party loves BBQ and we have eaten it all over the country- including Kansas City and Nashville. Humble Hog in quaint Paxton IL can stand with some of the best- I also have Celiac and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful in making my meal gluten free :)
