Restaurantji's Indianapolis guide: Where to find the best Mexican flavors. Taste the finest Chips and Salsa, Tacos Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and more in the city.
“Everything was amazing! We had fast and great service, and the food was some of the best Mexican food we've had in the area! The drinks are on the high-end price wise but were very strong and we ended up saving money on drinks because of that. Slightly pricier food than some of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but the quality of food was worth the difference.“
“Listen. I don't write reviews, but the food was too good not to!Very much just a hole in the wall, traditional Mexican restaurant. Found it cause we were on the west side and it had almost perfect 5 ? with a couple hundred reviews.Parking is minimal at best, but literally my only gripe.Upon entering, we were immediately noticed and allowed to sit wherever. Before even getting a word in, we were given waters, chips, salsa, queso, and 3 housemade sauces ??The menu is fairly extensive, along with an entire drink selection as well, so I'm sure there's something for everyone. Maybe 7 minutes until we received all out actual food. Between my partner and I, we got 2 chicken tacos, 2 steak tacos, 1 chicken quesadilla, and arroz con Pollo o asada. Everything was absolutely delicious! Flavor-filled, hot, juicy, and savory as hell! Something about the quesadilla stood out as easily one of the most flavorful basic quesadillas I've ever had. When I asked our waitress what they did to it, she admitted it's a house-secret butter blend for frying the tortillas ?Overall, if you're craving Mexican food, do not miss on this place! It's easily gonna be our go-to Mexican place on the west side from now on!For pricing, we spent 42$ before tax and tip with the above. The tacos for reference were $3.50 a piece (I feel like based on a staple item's price, you can always kinda gauge how much other stuff will be; worth it though)“
“The smell outside was enchanting. It smelled like street tacos in LA where I grew up and immediately knew I should up my expectations.I had a Brazilian drink flight (name?), which was good, but a little light on alcohol. We both picked the Picahna dish and it was amazing so it experience want too swayed. The pictures don't do it justice and we can't wait to go back to try the carne asada.“
“The BEST and MOST authentic Mexican spot in Indy (yes Speedway technically). No cutting corners, everything is made from scratch. Service is top notch and ambience is lively. Pictured is the Huarache Dany Especial. Loaded with meat and nopales as well as onion and fresh Oaxaca cheese. Tortilla filled with beans. And their agua de limón con pepino y menta (lemonade, cucumber and mint). A bit pricey but for the quality it cannot be matched. Please come here if you can.“
“I started coming 2 weeks ago and I’m in for my third time already. Every one is really nice and make you feel welcome, the food is perfect and if you ask me the chief needs a raise just of the fact they care enough to make every plate with the drive up here, I’d come her every night if the wife would let me, and the drinks are on a different level“
“Great latin style food. Don't let the nest of the items on the menu fool you. Order something you know and have eaten many times before, and you are in for a surprise. Whatever it is, it will be greatly enhanced and much better than what you might be expecting. I've been there several times now and had a variety of food there. Loved it all! The menu changes seasonally and for the better. The place is clean and upscale casual. The wait staff is quick, friendly, and helpful. It's really a great place.“
“So many gluten free options. This is one of our favorite spots in the city. The staff is always so friendly. Food is excellent.Try the papusas and tiny brisket empanadas. The chips & queso are so good, too.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options“
“I've been wanting to try this restaurant and very glad I finally did. Really good food. Tons of clearly labeled vegan options and flavors I've never tasted. Such a different menu than other Mexican restaurants. Tried the hibiscus vegan taco and calabacita soup which were both delicious. My fiance tried the turkey tamales and loved them. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back. Wish I lived closer but worth the drive.Vegetarian options: Lots of clearly labeled vegan options“
“The wait staff was incredible fast, and I got a shrimp quesadilla— it is literally the best one I’ve ever had and I don’t mean that lightly. I’m definitely going to come back to get more in the future since it’s so affordable, and the portions are so filling. 20/10 ??Dietary restrictions: I’m a pescatarian, and they had some really delicious options for me to eat today! I got the shrimp quesadilla, after being recommended that and their fish tacos as well.“
“One of my coworkers tried this spot for lunch one day and now my whole team goes a few times a month! We get different things and it's all been delicious! My go tos are the chicken tacos or chicken burrito. The owner is also so nice and remembers us when we come in! If you're looking for a delicious local Mexican place, this is it!!“
“The service was amazing! We ordered a large amount of pupusas for an event and the employee helped us bring our food to our car. He also would not let us tip him for such a large order! Amazing place with very helpful and friendly staff!! Will be going back and will be tipping :))“
“I visited Taqueria Rosales for the first time and I'm very glad I did. The food and the service were both excellent.I had three tacos - chorizo, ground beef, and carnitas. All were delicious. I normally prefer flour tortillas, but their corn tortillas were excellent.“
“Checked out this place for the first time! The interior was nice and clean. Service was fast and the food came out hot and delicious. We ordered three, tacos asada (a tad bit dry) and the chicken acapulco. The acapulco had plenty of cheese and was really satisfying. Also, the Mexican rice that came with it was actually tasty as well. We'll be back again to try the other items on the menu!PRO TIP: The first basket of chips and salsa are free. They will charge $1.50 for more. This wasn't a problem as the chips are really filling and we didn't even finish our initial chips!“
“Business was clean, staff was courteous, food was exceptional. I'll definitely go back I highly recommend this placeKid-friendliness: Is a family atmosphere so kids are definitely welcomeWheelchair accessibility: It is easy for a wheelchair to get into this establishment.“
“Rule #1 is that everything should be in perspective.Found this place close to my hotel and thought what the hell, I'll try it. Glad I did. This ma and pa place might be small but delivered very tasty meal that came out quick. I will be back here again before I leave Indy in two days. Loved the variety of sauces.“
“These are the best tacos in Indy. I usually take them out and they are still good when I get home. In inside seating are is very small, would only eat in on a lunch break. Employees are so friendly and remember repeat customers. Also a great price.“
“it's far from my place but ALWAYS worth the drive. their birria is amazing, flavorful and mouthwatering. never had a poor time here and i've been coming here since 2020. they're always very friendly. keep up the great work! ?“
“Stopped in around 8:30 after shopping. The restaurant is very clean and spacious. We ordered 4 tacos and a torta. I highly recommend the Al Pastor meat on the tacos. My wife from Mexico said YUM, these taste just like Mexico. The other meat was carne asada, it was also very good. The service was wonderful. The waiting staff would was very nice and cordial and the line chefs were very quick and efficient with our order. The Al Pastor was so good we got another taco. Don't skip this place.“
“Tacos Toluca is super friendly, very clean inside, and absolutely delicious every single time. That's all you really need to know other than the fact that I can't go a week without grabbing an order of the tacos asada or campechano. I've had their burritos and tortas as well and they're just as delicious. The meat is always well-seasoned, tender, and I think I have yet to find any fat or gristle in anything. They don't skimp on the fillings either. If you're looking for top-notch tacos with amazing salsa (get the salsa aguacate or salsa verde) and some spicy pickled onions to go with, this is the place. I hope they're around for a long time because I can't see myself getting tired of their food.“
“Seriously so underrated. Burrito joint is right across the street, but this is where the GOOD stuff is at. Probably the best Mexican food I've ever had, the staff is humble and sweet, a little boy brought my kids leftover balloons from mother's day to take home. That was so thoughtful and precious. It's a small restaurant but it's very cozy and worth every penny spent!Kid-friendliness: Quite a few options for picky eaters so grownups can still enjoy themselves without worrying if their kiddos will eat it. They have burgers, hotdogs, nuggets and a few other things! They're delicious too, we snagged a couple bites.“
“Fresh food, generous portions, friendly staff, great service, great pricesWasn't the best service this evening but still a great place with great staff and atmosphereWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility at side entrance. Staff willing to move tables for accommodation if the tables have become an obstruction to prevent accessibility. More accessible for wheelchair than almost 90% of other restaurants that have tables less than 3ft space to walk between“
“If you're in or near the near-west-side, Tamales Etc. is a cool lil local taco/tamale spot. This place has a modest menu, hittin the basics and keepin the prices reasonable. They're on top of the on-trend menu items like birria tacos with consomme, Hot Cheeto burritos, asada fries, elote (street corn), churros, etc. The service at Tamales Etc. is excellent. The facility is modest, but if you've grown up with a good little taco shop in your neighborhood, you're going to feel right at home.“
“This place has a super chill vibe. We went for lunch, but I would love to see this place in the evening! The house music added to the ambience. You have the get the platanos, we are coming back to try the sweet kind next. The Salty are pictured here. Fast, friendly service. Beautiful presentation.“
“This is an absolute hidden gem; the quesabirria tacos are as authentic as they can be. the drinks are very generous and the choriqueso is exceptional. I wasn't a big fan of the salsa; but that's a minor issue. the service is supreme and they really make an effort to provide a great culinary experience.“
“There are 3 Mexican restaurants in Clermont, IN all within a half mile of each other. This is the only one that seems authentic. My girlfriend is Hispanic and she told me this is the first place she's been in Indy where the food reminds her of her Abuelas cooking; brought over from Mexico. Delicious food, awesome owner and staff! UPDATE: I accidentally left my wallet in the store. The staff kept it safe for me for 2 days. Great experience as always!“
“These are one of the best tacos I’ve ever had in my Entire Life and I’ve had tacos from Mexico!! Magnificent /Great Respectful Staff Every Single Time !Vegetarian options: You can Order A Burrito With No meat Just Pure veggies and beans and rice“
“Best Mexican food in Indy. They are always nice! If you are doing takeout they are always ready at the estimated time. It’s very reasonably priced especially given the portions and quality.Vegetarian options: We are vegetarian and the selection is pretty solid. Lots of veggie optionsDietary restrictions: They have many options for most dietary restrictions. They have always been helpful with suggestions and substitutionsKid-friendliness: There are always kids!Wheelchair accessibility: There are no steps so accessible getting into the building. Will be difficult navigating inside due to tables being so close and most being booths. Outside seating when warmer is much easier!“
“The place is super cute. The margaritas were fantastic. The service was good. The food was good not great, but it all came out room temp. Everyone was a little disappointed in the temperature. My enchiladas hardly had any sauce. My husband had the same problem. The parking lot was super small so you may have to find street parking but that shouldn't keep you from giving it a try.“
“I drive about 45 minutes just for thier tamales and carnitas! Not only do they have good customers service but they also have very good food that has alot of flavor. The tamales do sell out fast you can call ahead of time an place an order and will let you pick them up the next day.“
“So glad I went with my gut, passed this place a couple months back and it gave off very good vibes and potential and man did it deliver in an amazing way. Authentic, traditional and classic flavors that you can only get with freshly preparing and cooking food to order. This is definitely my easy favorite in the area and absolutely in the running for best taqueria in town in my opinion. I will definitely be visiting regularly.“
“Best tacos in Indianapolis, they could be pricey but worth it ! I’m from Mexico and they are the only ones closer to the real taste. The salsas taste like homemade not like from a can and the tortillas aren’t sweet like the tacos from other places.“
“Loved it! Went in for lunch on Saturday at 3pm. Their salsa is great, and has a little kick to it. I had the jalapeño margarita on the rocks and it was such a great experience. Again, had a kick to it. It was a good combination of sweet, sour and spicy. We had chorizo tacos, which were also delicious and came with heaping portion of meat garnished with red onions and cilantro.Clean place, friendly staff. Can't say there was anything I was unsatisfied with.“
“I actually dropped my wallet while there having lunch and didn't realize it! Later that evening my waitress brought it to my house! All of my credit cards and $250 in cash were all still there! What an honest and wonderful person! Thank you so much! Great food, so if you haven't tried it give it a try! As mentioned about truly great and friendly people!“
“JUST GO! I get it it's off the side of the rode but it's good. Late night food is a go. The workers are friendly and will always cook to order which is worth the wait. I'm vegetarian so veggie tacos is my go to with Verde sauce. I love the sauce it's always flavorful and leave you wanting more.“
“I love coming to this establishment I saw them a while ago and decided to give them a try. I’m very picky when it comes to my food so I was very shocked and surprised that I even took the courage to come and try them out. My family and I love Mexican food, due to our Spanish background as Puerto Ricans. Man,when I tell you I love this place so much I probably come here for lunch two times a week if I get the chance. It seems like a family establishment which I have loved and will always support. Thank you guys for always being so generous and kind every time I come in.“
“Customer service is top notch. There’s a sign that says the drive thru doesn’t work and to pull around, you get immediate service! Less than 10 minutes for fresh pollo supremo, and they made sure to give me extra birria soup with my tacos as I asked!“
“I didn’t know what to expect at first but after giving chino Mex a shot it was worth every dime. The serving sizes are great, the food was freshly made and you can taste the quality of the ingredients used. I would recommend this to any one looking for something fresh when it comes to Chinese food.“
“I got 2 chicken tacos, & the nachos come with steak or chicken I chose steak, beans, tomatoes, lettuce, shredded cheese, & queso. What I didn’t like about the nachos is they should use real beans instead of refried beans & I didn’t like the queso I think you should ask for it on the side and put the queso on yourself. I also got the 2 chicken tacos I feel like the chicken was dry in my opinion. My wife she got 2 elote (street corn), quesadilla, she loved it, she gave the food a 4.7 out 5. They do offer a salsa bar where you serve yourself all different kinds of salsa. It wasn’t a bad experience at all for our first time just thought my food could’ve been a little better in what I detailed in my review. Thank you.“
“This place is small but it manages to have seating inside and out along with food and fresh baked pastries and bread. I was excited to try the quesa birria and it did not disappoint. I did not get the dip but they were delicious. The meat was flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. I also got some Asada and chorizo tacos. Both were good but the chorizo one was amazing. I haven't tried them yet but I couldn't say no to the tamale's. They look like the traditional Mexican style. I will definitely be back.“
“Came in for a late night Sunday dinner with my husband. We were greeted quickly and told to sit anywhere we'd like. We started the meal with chips and queso. I thought the chips tasted fresh and were warm. The queso has more flavor than your typical restaurant queso. For my meal, I had the arroz con pollo. This was very good and I thought all the chicken in it was quality pieces. The waiter was attentive and friendly. They also have a salsa bar that is complimentary. I didn't walk up there to visit it, but my husband said it includes limes, pickled onions, salsas, etc. Overall, I will return here. This is a solid spot to satisfy a craving!“
“This place has the best Sunday brunch in town. To be fair I can't really judge it on anything other than it's brunch because that's the only time I've been. All you can eat for $25 and it's all delicious. The food is unique Mexican American fusion, and includes savory and sweet treats. The portions are small so you get to try a lot of things and share with friends. Will be going back soon!“
“The food and drinks were very good; however, the guacamole appetizer serving size was very tiny. The guac was good but the serving size had much too small. Nice decor, very clean, great margaritas and the food was great. We will definitely go back.“
“I had a so-so gordita, but everyone else's food looked fabulous and everything else was great. Especially the fresh fruit drinks. I had orange/pineapple and I would stop in again if only for that. I'll try something else next time. The fajitas looked hot, sizzling and came with lots of toppings.“
“The tacos are amazing, especially the steak taco & Chicken and steak fajitas. The seasoning is great, the meat is juicy and the corn Tortillas tasty wit a little crisp of delight. I'm not sure if there tortilla are hand made, cause they are good“
“My co-worker told me he found this restaurant, so it was another 1st timer. This a very nice place on the inside, it's very environment friendly. As soon as we walked in, we were seated. They have plenty of seating on the inside, as well as the outside. The staff is very friendly, and the service was excellent. The food was top notch, and the pricing is reasonable, it's definitely worth going back too again.“
“Stumbled upon this place on accident, but we will be back for sure. I had the pork nachos and my wife had the arroz con carne. 5/5 was not enough stars to give the nachos!Salsa and Chips were delicious & they had Coke products!Added bonus, our waiter (Ervin) was very attentive and made the whole experience even better. We found our new spot!!“
“If you want to know what the red lobster version of a Mexican restaurant is, look no further...the food is good, you'll leave satisfied, but you know this ain't no authentic gritty, street taco truck type of joint that'll keep you alive during you're late night adventures. You have to make reservations to get the late night munchies if you wanna experience this atmosphere“
“I just stopped in here for lunch. Solid vegetarian options. The owner and the wait staff were both super friendly. My food was delicious. I'll definitely come back here in the future.Vegetarian options: Their beans are made fresh and cooked without any animal lard. They have vegetarian tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, burritos, omelettes, and more“
“Pancho’s is just as good as I remembered it 15 years ago. Still the same gentleman at the counter. Still the same salsa bar. Still the same XXXHabanera salsa, my favorite. Maybe the prices have gone up a dollar or two but other than that, nothing has changed.“
“We was in Castleton looking for something different. Bryan R was our server, he very friendly and helpful. The manager was also very friendly and the atmosphere was warming and welcoming.Dietary restrictions: I don’t eat beef or pork. So when I asked if the birria tacos could be made with chicken, they was able to accommodate me. I loved everything about Bugambilias and would recommend them to everyone.“
