“My wife and I enjoyed a drink and a meal before a Thursday evening concert at the nearby Bluegate Theater. The Bang Bang Shrimp salad was fantastic and my wife enjoyed her Fish/Fries basket. Unless you are a huge eater, the lunch sized shrimp salad was quite large and more than enough to satisfy my appetite. The place was packed and loud. Our drinks took a bit to arrive but that was due to the busyness. I had a double Eagle Rare bourbon and my wife had a Tito's and Tonic, both reasonably priced ($15 and $7). I can never get Eagle Rare any longer so I was pleased to see it here. We will definitely stop here again when we are in the area.”

“We met George at our first visit here last month and he was the absolutely biggest gentleman and kindest soul! The food was absolutely amazing. I went with three friends and we all tried something different on the menu and everything was 10/10!! I would recommend anyone stopping here for a bite to eat! The wait for our food was not long and it was a perfect day to sit on the picnic benches and enjoy lunch!”

“This Amish-owned spot out in the country southeast of Shipshewana is a nice stop on a hot day when you want to escape the tourist crowd! Good ice cream, nice menu, friendly service. I like the pretzel bits if I'm in the mood for something salty. Portion sizes are very generous!”

“Its a rare occasion we are able to go out for a nice dinner and enjoy ourselves having 3 teenagers but when we do we like to try places we have never been! Tonight we chose the Backroads Tavern and let me tell you... we were NOT disappointed. A relaxing, scenic 45 min drive from angola resulted in the best meal we have had out in a long while. The cheese sticks were pretty darn close to "world famous" as our amazing waiter Chris stated. Followed up by the most tender waygu steak with crispy brussel sprouts and loaded fries! Not a single thing I could have done better had I made it myself at home! Drinks were nice and strong, atmosphere was pleasing. However... what made us want to rant and rave about this dining experience was the service we received. From the moment we walked thru the door we were greeted with a smile. Chris was attentive, personable, knowledgeable. He cared enough about his customers and the service he provided to the point we felt he had to be the owner! THAT folks is what makes me WANT to come back to an establishment! Job WELL DONE Backroads Tavern and Chris! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening!”

“This place is a refreshing change from high-volume low quality mushy Asian like the "buffet down the street". If you actually want to sit with friends and have a meal, you will enjoy it! The prices are too low for what you get.”

“This is a great little lake pub! Not much to look at on the inside but it's a bar so... The outside patio is awesome! Feed the fish and turtles, have a beer and really solid menu items. Their Bluegill is very good, their sandwiched are very good, and their fried fish is really good too! Fuel up, dock the boat and walk on in! You won't be disappointed!”

Between the cinnamon rolls, the breakfast sandwiches, and the omletes to the pancakes, everything about this hidden gem is worth going for.Parking: There are spots up front and spots behind the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: These ladies are excellent with children and make you feel warm and welcomed. “Happiness Is Ice Cream has undoubtedly the best soft service ice cream in the world! A once-a-week trip is not enough! I love the vanilla, but my wife enjoys other flavors, as well. The ice cream is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. The shop also serves hand-dipped ice cream with many different flavors. The shop closes early, so don't wait too long in the evening to visit.”

“Sadly the new Clover brewed ice coffee lacks flavor and depth. In order to get it to old standards I've had to add two shots of espresso. Now my iced coffee is about $7.50. I'll be finishing my sbux card balance and changing where I get my iced coffee. Way too expensive and for less quality.”

Love that the activity booklet they get with crayons has their menu on the back and our 6 year olds checked off what they wanted as their main, side and drink.
