our food was so bad. i chose this place for my birthday dinner. i was surprised that i was so unlucky to get the worst steak they had. then after we left, someone commented to me that they had better steak at applebees, saying their steak was all gristle. i had the exact same thought eating mine (but kept it to myself) so it was weird that someone else said it out loud. it was genuinely the worst steak i ever had. it was like eating an old boot, rubbery and flavorless. the place is decorated beautifully though, and it would have had a great atmosphere if not for the bar. the bar was very busy with very drunk older people. they were shouting, cussing, and slamming things around loudly (not sure what that was about). at one point, a drunk woman wondered over to our table and interrupted our dinner to speak to me about my appearance. she was very kind but clearly very drunk. the service was okay, pretty standard. they were polite. there was a piano player, which i really enjoyed, but so did the drunk people, as the people at the bar were shouting that that’s why they come to drink at vera mae’s. this place used to have a wonderful reputation, and used to be one of the best restaurants in muncie. I’m not sure what changed. it could have just been a bad night. but we are not going back and it’s now the place we joke about going to when we talk about where to go for dinner.

One of our new favorite restaurants. My husband ran across a “Top 5 Romantic Restaurants” ad on social media, and Vera Mae’s was on there. We decided to try it out for Valentine’s Day. The service and food were SPECTACULAR. They time the food out perfectly so you never run out or get overwhelmed with a thousand plates on your table. Everyone is here very attentive and pleasant. Looking forward to our next visit!

Let me just say this. Vera Mae's Bistro was wonderful. My two girlfriends and I wanted to have a nice relaxing time without the men and we did just that. The service and food was spot on! Live music was played and all three of us said we would be back! We started with 3 apps. Spinach wontons, Escargot, and calamari. We each had our main dishes which consisted of the salmon, chicken hollandaise, and the French onion soup. We will most definitely be back! I'm sorry I don't have pics

Great food and nice place. Only small issue is that it's very loud. Otherwise wonderful!

This is a must have in Muncie. Chef nick is always up for the challenge and you haven't had a drink until you have Carlos make it!

Sorry, I was there as a performer, not a guest, so I can't rate the service or the food. From my perspective, the atmosphere was great!

Overrated honestly.Charcutterie board was alright. Could have been way better for price. Bread pudding was good. My husband steak was way overcooked and the "glaze" was more of a sauce that was just drenching the steaks. Very salty also. I couldn't eat it. I took it home to the dogs. My brussel sprouts were wayyyy too salty. The only thing we ate of our mains were our mashed sweet potatoes which were smooth and creamy and very delicious. French onion soup was good but nothing to write home about. Overpriced for food I could easily make at home and it actually taste good.Atmosphere was strange. I feel they were trying to be different but it was just weird - which I wouldn't have cared if the food was worth it.They did correct my husband's steak. But again with the sauce smothering it, it wasn't enjoyable. We had high hopes and like to support local businesses. We won't be back at least for awhile. Easy on the salt and let a steak be a steak. :)

I had such a great experience dining in. It was my wife and I's 5th anniversary. We sat at a table in the corner looking out at the street, which we quite liked. It was a more intimate area. The lighting was dim but not too dim, it really set the mood for the night. Our server was attentive, but not too much so that it became overbearing. He was very knowledgeable on the menu items and gave us some great insight on what to order. We ordered the Cromini Crustini as the appetizer, and it was very decadent. Very creamy with the perfect amount of Balsamic glaze on top. After the appetizer, my wife got the onion soup, while I got the Curried Potato soup. The curry was good, but after tasting that onion soup, I wished I had gotten it. We both agreed that it was the best onion soup we've ever tasted. My wife settled on the 14 oz. Strip Steak, and I on the Chicken Marcona. The Chicken Marcona was a perfect mix of salty/sweet. The sides were very normal, just green beans and mashed potatoes, nothing special. My wife's steak was very good, nice and tender. It paired very well with the pickled onions on the side. For dessert, I got the pecan crusted cheesecake, while my wife ordered the creme brulee. Both were exceptional in our book.Overall we loved the ambiance, food, and staff of Vera Mae's, and we will definitely be back!

The "new" Vera Mae's is slowly coming into it's own. We enjoy the lovely live jazz on Friday nights, and the food is always good. The Sweet Potato Thai Curry was a bit spicier than advertised, but still delicious.

What a wonderful find. Our grandson is attending BSU and this was first visit. Everything about this place is wonderful: cuisine, service and ambiance. We were a party of six and I will leave you with 3 recommendations: Jagerschnitzel, Jagerschnitzel, Jagerschnitzel…
