“The food was good and nicely presented. It is cute and quaint. Orders are olaced at the counter, you seat yourself and they find you. I did find it odd I had to ask for syrup. Once I did, a condiment organizer was brought to my table complete with salt and pepper. The dogs with the man sitting at the next table were brought water and then some treats, without saying a word. The patrins were pleasant and conversational, the staff at the cafe were "matter of fact".”

“We had dinner at the bar since we didn't realize reservations a couple weeks ahead are critical to a table at this restaurant. It was very nice to have the option of waiting for a seat at the bar, and it was actually quite lovely since our server was always right in front of us and the piano player was close by in the room as well. The food was superb...I had the delicious fish almandine and my husband enjoyed the chicken with roasted potatoes. They were both served very hot, which I appreciate. We thought the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. And our server/bartender was friendly and efficient. If I lived in NOLA, I'd eat at Irene's twice a month for sure!”

“My brother and I attended Chris' Cocktail Class last Friday. Both of us are big fans, and to have 3 hours of time with a man we consider to be one of the greatest living bartenders in the U.S. (if not the world), it was a privilege, educational, and a great time. Chris' breadth of knowledge is exceptional, and he and his wife Laura are fantastic people. I highly recommend taking one of his classes, and if you haven't been to Revel, you're missing out. I will be back -- for drinks, food and classes!”

We stopped by for some to-go bloody Mary's. We were greeted by an extremely friendly hostess and taken care of by an equally great bartender. The bloody Mary's were delicious and strong. “If I could rate more than 5 stars I would. I came here with my mom in September for her birthday dinner and we could not have been happier with the experience. Of the 10+ restaurants we visited during our time here, this was easily the most unique and memorable. The ambience was lovely, a carefully crafted balance of elegant southern hospitality and refined contemporary touches transporting you into an intimate dining experience. The service was impeccable, each member of the staff was welcoming and enthusiastic. They all made us feel like we were locals returning for the umpteenth time and went out of their way to make the dinner exceptional. Each course was beautifully plated and full of flavor. The fish was perfect and fresher than any we had elsewhere on our stay, and the desert was outstanding. No matter whether you’re a local or a guest of the city, do yourself a favor and dine here.”

The spice is pleasant and flavorful.Vegetarian options: There is a entire page of vegetarian dishes.Kid-friendliness: They have paper covering their tables, so don’t worry about the mess.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp to the door and the building is spacious.”

Our hosts, Liz and Mensur are second to none. We were treated BETTER than family every time we came. If ever you visit New Orleans, or are a true native, you must come by and meet them, and have a meal or two, or three...My favorite dinner is the Pork chops with gumbo soup and house fries ( which are the best tasting potato wedges I have ever eaten!). “This was the best meal I have ever had hands down. Every detail possible was thoughtfully executed. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived (we were early) and we were greeted with beverage service while we waited. The restaurant itself is beautiful and cozy, with the volume being a perfect level. The drinks were so perfect, very much gave New Orleans style cocktails an elevated touch. We ordered basically everything on the menu, and were continuously blown away course by course. The highlights for our group were the braised celery hearts swimming in a rich tomato broth, the stuffed quail with chow-chow and “risotto”, and the fish/beef dishes. Our server was fantastic and paced everything so well. We finished off with some complementary house-made Lemon-cello that was the perfect ending to the best culinary-hospiltaity experience I have ever endured. Thanks, MaMou; We will be back!”

The corn bread they put on the table had a little spicy zip which was a great amuse bouche. Their gumbo was different but still good. (They put potato salad in it which was admittedly strange but still good). I ordered a potato crusted fish which was crunchy and light in an amazing sauce. Friends got the redfish and alligator cheesecake. I'd trust anyone to order anything and have faith that they'll be happy with what they get at Jacques I Amos The only complaint was we all ordered the special cocktail which was a watermelon mojito and it did t really work with the straw. “This place is busy. Very busy. Worth the wait? Let's go. This place is conveniently located near freret street, and to the hospital I've been working at lately. Convenience is key. Walked up on a Friday at 11 and it was slammed. 35-45 minute wait for 2+ people. For me a solo dude, 10-15. Was put on the list and just sat outside and enjoyed the weather. Glad it was a pretty day because Nola can get hot. Was sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. These guys and gals work very hard. Very hard. Orders coming in left and right and they had it all under control. For the bearcat breakfast with a pancake. This comes with two eggs your way, bacon/bison sausage, and crispy potatoes. Now at most places crispy potatoes are meh. Forgettable. These crispy potatoes are heavenly. And I'm not embellishing. Truly the best fried taters I've had. They're red new potatoes that I think are boiled, smashed, then left to cook in the deep fryer for gawd forever it looked like. They're dusted with Cajun seasoning and. Yeah. Chefs kiss. Their butter or their syrup is also amazing. There's something in there that makes it extra flavorful. Couldn't put my finger on it but it was very good. Pancake was awesome. Like everything else. Great meal, good vibes, Hailey was an amazing waitress. Super sweet. Attentive. If I can afford to wait, I will eat here again.”

We were seated promptly and offered water and beverages by Amour, who told us that it was his first day on the floor. I was amazed by how much he knew about the menu and the variety of different dishes available. Our server for the meal was Lotus who was very attentive and descriptive each course in detail as it arrived. We chose to try the Chef’s Choice four course meal and were very pleased with everything. We were served the patatas bravas and the roasted brassica salad for starters. I don’t think I’ve ever had potatoes as a starter but they were amazing and the salad complimented them nicely. The next course was the wild mushrooms, the Louisiana crawfish croquettes and the grilled lamb skewer. The croquettes were a huge hit, the lamb was tender and very nicely seasoned but a tad salty for my wife. The main plate was the crispy coq au vin. It was perfectly prepared though the collard greens served with it were not to our taste. Neither of us grew up eating collard greens and haven’t developed a taste for them.Dessert was the Spanish almond cake with honey ice cream and marcona almonds which perfectly rounded out the courses. The cake was very light and the ice cream was amazing. My wife would buy the ice cream by the gallon if she could!Altogether it was a very pleasant evening. “Impeccably distinct for its food and service, Zasu is a NOLA gem. The imaginative flavors and impressive presentation make this small locale a must-try for locals and visitors such as myself. The service was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. I particular like the lush green decor that elevated the ambience and sense of spaciousness. My only concern was the noise level once the house was full. It's my own issue and less Zasu's. I would absolutely return more often if I lived in New Orleans. Until then, it will remain on the top of my list for future reservations. Kudos to the chef, staff and bartender.”

“Just go on ahead and eat here. Go right ahead because i'm sure you'll be pleased. The service was decent. We did not have to long await between being sat, ordering and receiving our meals. They also provide complimentary rolls (I love bread so i was delighted). Now the food was SOOO good. The fried alligator bites were very tasty, along with the mac and cheese. Unfortunately the roux for our Gumbo was burnt so we did not enjoy it as much. Now the Louisiana Cochon was the star! It wasn't even my plate and after one bite I knew I ordered wrong (although my entree of the smoke beef short rib was also tasty). If you eat pork please order the Louisiana Cochon because you will not be disappointed! I'm sure they have to have someone's grandma back there cooking because it was perfect!”

We started with the fried oysters appetizer and the pork belly appetizer and both were amazing. The pork belly appetizer could have been a little spicier, but it was delicious. We then shared a serving of the gumbo. We split a 22 oz. ribeye for the entree. It was one of the most delicious steaks i have eaten in my life. Cafe Abyssinia 3511 Magazine St, New Orleans Ethiopian • $$
3511 Magazine St, New Orleans

“Overall Thoughts: Hidden towards the back of other restaurants/shops without a clear sign, this spot was empty when we went for lunch at 12pm but gradually got a bit busier later on. The interior is comfortable, homey, and modestly decorated; I loved the designs of their bowls and cups. Granted I don’t have Ethiopian food often, but this is the best I’ve had so far— the food is delicious, bursting with bold, robust spices and flavors, and extremely filling. We paid ~$24 per person, which was very reasonable for how filling and excellent the food was. The service was also great and very friendly!Food I tried:- Sambusa with Collared Greens (4.1/5): This appetizer was just okay— it is very similar to Thai spring rolls, even with the same sweet and spicy sauce. The collared greens gave it a bit of a unique flair, and it had a very crispy exterior.- Ethiopian Coffee: Definitely more of an acquired taste that I don’t yet have— it’s extremely strong / concentrated and tasted herbal. They combined all the entrees into one family-style plate with a side of injera:- Split Red Lentil Stew (4.7/5): This was super good— the lentils had so much flavor and I loved its soft, mushy texture. The sides of women and cabbage were flavorful and delicious as well.- Fish Gulash (4.6/5): The fish pieces were crispy, flavorful, and well-sauteed.- Lamb Alicha (4.3/5): This was good, with a distinct lamb flavor balanced out by the other veggies and spices.- Kitfo (4.3/5): This was quite good too, with very pleasant flavors and spices.- Injera (4.6/5): The injera here is thicker than other places I’ve been, but with the same slightly sweet and sour flavor and light, spongey texture.—Price (relative to peers): 4.4/5Food: 4.5/5Ambience: 4.5/5Service: 4.9/5Overall Value: 4.6/5”
