On Friday at 8:30 March 29, 2024 I walked into Fornax and noticed the dark lighting, dark tables, lack of color and brightness that I had always experienced. Not only that but after I returned home with the 4 scones I bought for a luncheon I was hosting only to discover 4 stale, tasteless items. I was embarrassed and noticed my guests did not finish the scones, nor did my husband or I. We threw them out!!! A big disappointment. Good-bye Fornax!!!!

Awesome bakery with very reasonable prices. Ordered a cake and have been buying sourdough bread for a few weeks. They have a great selection of pastries, bread, and sandwiches as well.Highly recommended

The cashier was friendly. The 3 sandwiches I bought didn't taste good at all. I and 2 family members were surprised by the tastelessness in the normal breakfast selection of egg sausage and cheese. The French bread was okay. I won't be back! I was also surprised at the separation of the spinach and cheese in their spinach and cheese pastry, which still seemed off. I hadn't had one in years but I definitely remember the cheese and spinach being combined. It was my first visit and it will also be my last.

Really nice bread place in Roslindale. Has a variety of type of breads. The challah is top notch, nicely braided, with a good chewy texture. The ham and cheese croissant was decent, though some of the layers of croissant were more dense than I had anticipated. The baguette was rather unique - a bit denser than usual but enjoying the outer crust.

The new Fornax is very sad and makes me sad. Smaller sized items at a higher price and not quite as good. Could anyone make a smaller Hostess cupcake? I for one liked the previous unique style of the food and the slightly funky look of the place. Now it's just another blando place. And the Breakfast sandwich is not the same -terrible. It tasted like old grease.

Rough. Was so excited. Just needed bread to make garlic bread with pasta…At the cash register I decided to treat myself to a chocolate chip cookie. It was terrible. Dry. Hard. Cashier said - oh, those were baked on Sunday - it was now Wednesday. I asked for a different cookie. I thought I’d try an oatmeal raisin. Cashier said - oh, people don’t like those. Ugh. I ended up with a giant Oreo. It was meh.Got a batard for garlic bread… I’d give it a 7 out of 10? It was a day old too, as per my cashier…So, not fresh. Not good.

The new owners stripped out everything that made this place so eclectic, fun, and special. Now it's generic and boring. Such a shame.

I have been a frequent customer at Fornax for well over a decade. I have always been a fan of the delicious sandwiches, salads and homemade soups (butternut squash soup my favorite) When COVID hit I stopped being in the area. Well in December my foster daughter started play therapy at The Home for Little Wanderers on American Legion. Stopped by Fornax a few times to get a chicken salad. Chicken was very dry and they forgot to add dressing ??‍♀️ . 2nd time same dry chicken and forgot some ingredients that I was able to correct before I headed home in the South End. 3rd salad I was pretty mad and called the bakery. I know The owner Kim and asked to speak to her. Welp...found out Fornax was sold and under new ownership ??. No more Kim??. Not sure what is going on with the new owners but I'm not feeling it. That chicken on the mixed green salad is like chicken chips. Please fix this. Also my delicious bread got moldy after 2 days? . Maybe they are working out the kinks??‍♀️. Soup was good, sandwich was good Lil Skippy on the salami. Staff was nice and helpful. I had plans to ask Kim for the butter nut Squash recipe??. Can't believe your gone Kim. I feel like this, if your not going to stick to good quality like Kim always did change the name. Fix the chicken. It's dry AF. Best wishes to Kim and her future endeavors❤️

FOOD: Subpar. The ingredients are listed in such a way that you would anticipate an artisan sandwich, but really all you're getting is average toppings and a blob of melted cheese over pretty good bread. PRICE: Uncomfortably overpriced. The menu cites an $11.00 full sandwich, but somehow I ended up paying $40.00 for two. I wasn't offered a receipt and I was so aggravated by my experience at that point that I just left the counter, but I have no idea how or for what I was charged. I made one addition to one sandwich and somehow that doubled the price of my entire order. What a joke. SERVICE: Really odd vibes. The staff was not friendly, nor were they attentive or helpful. I stood in line while one cashier looked at me strangely but didn't say anything to me. She then looked past me at another customer I assume she'd been helping before I came in. OK, no problem. A little weird that she decided not to communicate that but I stepped aside so she could assist the other customer. Then, the other staff member walked past me to the person in line after me and took her order. I just stood there waiting patiently. I have no idea why that person did not want to serve me. She just left the counter after taking that order and the first cashier was finally ready to take mine. The was ready soon enough, maybe 10 minutes. So that's a plus? If you're sitting outside, you just have to check in inside periodically. AMBIANCE: Well, needless to say the vibe was off given the horribly dismissive service. Sitting inside wasn't an option for us: we did not want to be in that place. There are a few tables outside where you can share your meal with flies and wasps that will harass you the entire time you're there. I can say with confidence I won't be going back there, not even to get a refund for the money they stole from me.

I had a confusing experience. The menu says that sides are included, so I was looking forward to a bigger meal. My friend and I separately ordered the same thing. She received her sides, I didn't . When I asked, I was told that sides are extra and it was an accident that they added it to my friend's order for free. By then the cafe was too busy and they still had to bring out my beverage (my friend had received the exact same beverage before her order arrived), that I didn't even want to do business with them further.

The food is good, but everything is incredibly slow. Plan on waiting at the very least 20 minutes for your order to come out if you go during typical mealtime hours.
