We stopped by on a walking tour of Boston , we went back later and tried several pastries, which all were delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful with different suggestions. Would recommend the Limoncello, tiramisu, red velvet cupcake, amaretto custard, cannoli or Crème brûlée.

A cashier grabbed my cannoli with a bare hand and came out of kitchen as wiping her hand on her pants. They only take cash so I assume they touch cash and food items…?without washing their hand…?I hope it was just one unfortunate mistake but I’m not sure if I could come back soon.Cannoli’s super good tho.

Everything is great here! Employees are fantastic. I just scooped up some Pizzelles on my last visit. Cannolis are the best. Mikes is the tourist spot but all locals know Modern is best!

You would not believe the service we received on January 5th, 2024 around 8pm. The waitress was extremely disrespectful and rude to our party as we were trying to just get drinks. She was FOR SOME REASON so irritated with us that she brought the check out TOGETHER with our drinks, slamming it on the table. Unless you want to be harassed, do not go there.

Tuesday evening was our first time here - and would highly recommend. Somehow when I lived in the area, I had no idea this place existed. While small/cozy in the basement of modern pastry, there are multiple tables/chairs, and a number of bar stools around the bar. When we arrived, it was pretty busy, but we happened to catch a couple of people moving to a table/snagged their seats. The bartender was great, the menu is a bit limited, but there are many delicious options. I had an espresso martini that was delicious, and while not on the menu, you can order cannolis as well. I may officially be converted from Mikes to modern - their cannolis are perfectly crunchy, and the filling is more creamy. We will absolutely be back next time we are in the area!

Good dessert martinis here. I have tried both the espresso martini and the pistachio martini and both were simple but strong and tasty. This bar is simple with no fancy decor and sports playing on the TVs for people wanting to watch a game. However, the best part about this place is the ability to cut the modern pastry line. I have been multiple times where the line is wrapped around the door and I am able to just go downstairs (where you can also order cannolis-- just not as customizable). At modern underground they also have a plenty of other bar-type food offerings. Lastly, they accept credit cards downstairs which is also a bonus since the bakery only accepts cash.

I went here with a group of 6 friends last winter and enjoyed very good espresso martinis. It was packed and we had to be patient for a table to open up for us. We would have been fine with standing if there was some place to set aside our winter jackets. Regardless, we ended up having a great time once we were able to sit.

Awesome bakery... She had the key lime tart and I had the rum boba (think that's what it is called). Plus the coffee. I was apprehensive that coffee was going to be good but the coffee was very good. Cuz now the two bakery items was fantastic. The key lime will put a smile on my girl's face.
Good breakfast and espresso martini! Really loved the ambiance and the service was great. It was less crowded than I expected on a Saturday.

We stopped in for a couple of drinks and to watch some NFL Sunday before heading to TD Garden for a Bruins preseason game. It is a small area underneath the bakery and was pretty steady with people coming and going and the bar area remained full. Good atmosphere for watching sports and has several TVs. It seemed like many locals were meeting each other for drinks and lunch. We only had drinks but the food did look good. We sat at a table but service was slow. The bartender was also acting as the server so was difficult for her to keep up and step away from the bar. Maybe an off day - would give it another try though.
