Food was 5 stars, fantastic. Service is lacking. Never received two of the dishes we ordered, didn’t see our waitress all night. Disappointing service when the food is outstanding.

One of my favorite sushi places in boston! Truly delicious. The Torched Salmon is the best and I always look forward to going.

Ordered some takeout on my break from work. Nothing crazy, just 2 orders of maki rolls. I waited like a dope for 20 minutes after they told me it would be ready (50 minutes from when I ordered) as the grubhub people came & went. I’d understand if it was super busy, but 2/3 of the tables were empty. Finally got the rolls and they were probably the worst I’ve had anywhere. Just a little bit of fish, rice, and paper. Nothing else. Total ripoff for $24. I won’t be going back.

Not worth your time. We went to have dinner there and expected for fine dine in experience but everything wasn’t any close to what we expected. The server(the big guy) left the dirty plate with left over food right next to us at the bar. Such a worse experience.

Fantastic food and really nice friendly service. The room is really well done with a good atmosphere, busy but not loud on the night I was there. My only suggestion is that the drink menu could be improved.

Not good, but edible. The spicy tuna was mostly tempura, the little bit of tuna was fishy. The spicy basil lo mein was flavorless, tasted like oil and chili flakes.

We went here twice . The service was good both times. It's a beautiful low lit interior. We ordered the Purple Shell Boat, Salmon Dumpling, Claypot, 9 Pc Omakase, Sea Spoons Fire Salmon, Torched Toro Maki, Perfect Dose Maki, Bone Marrow, Salt n Pepper Lobster, $1.50 oysters and Lamb. Everything was delicious. You can definitely taste the quality in the food. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. It's pricey but worth it. Would go again

So happy that this place reopened. The sushi definitely is a splurge, but it is worth it for the quality and taste. The presentation is also nice. I enjoyed everything that I ordered, but the seared nigiri and sashimi balls were my favorite. The cocktails are not bad either. The inside is very spacious. I did not need a reservation when I went for an early dinner. My server was friendly.

This is a truly hidden gem in a very nice residential area in South Boston. I’ve traveled from Japan to Australia to Vancouver to St. Mateo, San Diego, and NYC looking for best sushi and sushi fish variety. I think for Boston, Purple Shell Boston deserves the gold medal. Compared to the rest of the US, you can’t beat the variety of fresh fish and Omakase flavors and presentations. Their appetizers are omakase grade but more creative and tasty. I fell in love with love bites and salmon dumplings. The omakase sashimi and sushi were both amazing at 9 each but different types of fish, presentation, and just the right amount of seasoning/garnish. For fatty fish or waygu additional soy sauce to taste. If omakase was served piece by piece directly from the chef, expect at least double the price but at Purple Shell they’re served as a set.
