“After being unable to give a phone order for takeout at a snooty vegan place nearby that, snootily, doesn’t accept them, we were welcomed at Billy’s, even though they were surely busy when we called. When we arrived, we asked if they might have a bathroom we could use even though there was absolutely no apparent public restroom. Thing is, my friend is mostly blind and likes to drink coffee, meaning I always need to look for a place for her to go. Several employees went out of their way to accommodate us in their very tiny prep and kitchen spaces as we moved through to use their private restroom in the back. ?It was so very kind and thoughtful and if I could give them 10 stars I would! ?Simple consideration, like answering the phone to take an order and letting someone use the restroom even if it inconveniences their operations for a moment, demonstrates LOVE is still alive in the world and it can be found at Billys! OMG, and then there was the food!!! The omelettes were amazing, the home fries were delicious and when we wished we had gotten ketchup with our takeout, there it was in the bag, along with the extra napkins for my friend. And don’t get me started on the blueberry pancakes… Amazing!!!?The value was unbeatable and even as we were walking out the door, the love continued as I was carefully handed two coffees in a carrier and our paper bag of food as they could see I was leading my friend. Thoughtful from beginning to end. We will DEFINITELY be going back!?Thank you so much, Billy Bunch!!!“

“This is an old school sub shop with the matriarch (I’m assuming) of the family front and center on the 1’s & 2’s. I walked in around noon on a Saturday, and there were about 6 firemen waiting on food, as well as a long line of waiting customers that was at the entry door. That to me is a SURE sign the food is fire. I got a steak and cheese bomb, bread toasted. It was stacked with steak, end to end. Omggg it looked as if I’d ordered xtra meat(which normally I do cuz it’s more bread than anything). It was so damn GOOD! I’m embarrassed that I haven’t come here sooner, they’ve been around since the 1970’s maybe?!? It’s a real old school family feel place. “SHIRLEY has been a bright light in my life since it opened a few doors down from me. Kat is a one woman show and cares deeply about where food comes from & her customers!! Her menu is based on fruits and veg that are in season, and rotates frequently. Whenever I come in to pick up an order, she always takes the time to point out new vegan items on the menu, tell me about her plans, and even chat for a few minutes, all while she's prepping orders. The bread is famous for a reason. It's versatile and so comforting! SHIRLEY is adventurous and delicious and is a great place to go for veg folks bringing along non - veg friends. happycow only allows 5 stars for full vegan/veg restaurants, so don't let the 4 stars fool you. And don't forget the pickles and your fun drink! Vegan Faves: - Tofu Banh Mi (my favorite sandwich) - Sweet potato black bean torta - Eggplant sesame sandwich - PICKLES!!! my fave pickles - in the spring there was this asparagus sandwich… yum - Chocolate chip cookies!!! - Tomato soup - Almost all (if not all) drinks are made w oat milk - Chocolate hazelnut spread Updated from previous review on 2024-02-15“

“No soup/sandwich shop compares in terms of price per quality, portion size, and different options in the area. I only started ordering from here about 2 weeks ago and I’ve now had 7 different kinds of soups and 4 different kinds of sandwiches - after the first order I started ordering two soups and a sandwich aka a soup to save for later because they’re just that good, every one of them. Price is so very reasonable and depending on which combo you get you can make out with a full sized sandwich and large sized homemade soup for ~$14.While it’s hard to recommend one thing over another in this circumstance since it’s all been great in their own ways, the Chicken Chowder is something I plan on getting a quart of next time it’s available. The Chicken Barley and Chicken Lemon Rice are ones I plan on getting quarts of in the future as well, and that’s not to discount the Chicken Noodle, Beef and Veg Noodle Stew, French Onion, and the current seasonal Chilled Gazpacha (which I probably wouldn’t have even tried it wasn’t from these guys). It’s all top quality. The Chicken Tarragon sandwich is my favorite in terms of sandwiches although it can’t combo with a soup as of now (please let us!). The best cheap soup combo sandwich is a tossup between the Cilantro Tuna and Ciabatta Sandwich, which are both incredible in their own ways. The only few drawbacks to this place are they don’t have every soup they make every day, are only open until 4PM, and aren’t open on the weekends. That said it’s worth it to plan accordingly for this. I never review anything but this place is worth it - it’s the best if you’re a soup and sandwich person like I am.“

Everything has been excellent - fresh, quality ingredients, scratch cooking, perfect ingredient proportions, and an eclectic mixture of culinary influences, including Indian and Italian. The prices are very reasonable for the excellent quality and generous quantity of the dishes. The service is great, as well - the owner, Sam, is very warm and friendly. As other reviewers have mentioned, ordering online is definitely recommended - the establishment is small, and there isn't much room to wait. My online orders have always been ready in 10-15 minutes.I really can't recommend TruFoods Kitchen highly enough. “There was a version of the Lake that had a much different flavor 30 years ago. It was an Italian enclave, with a history that is very much different than the rest of Newton. Nonantum, or "The Lake," was the village with the oldest synagogue. It was right down the street from a Catholic church that, in my opinion, has an interior that has made me cry over the sheer artistic splendor of it.Tradition still plays a large part in this changing neighborhood, and it is finely displayed in this small sub shop on Watertown St. Like the old days, food prices were lower and food portions were a bit larger, and Guiseppe's does not try and overwhelm the customer with grandiose decor or expensive decorations, they are here to make you a sandwich or a salad. My honest recommendation is to go to Guiseppe's, and learn a little about the duality of this wonderful neighborhood. Sample the simpler part of the Lake and remember to leave a nice cash tip, because you're getting a lot of value out of the hard work of the owners!“

“It's a hole in the wall very small restaurant but amazing ??. I had the colonial it was perfect tasty amazing, my husband had bird on fire & a ham & Swiss cheese croissant he said it was so packed with ham had to take some out. Said that's how you make a sandwich. The triple stuffed chocolate chip cookie ? ? was to die for so gooey and delicious. The piglet was great as well. The staff was/are amazing I highly recommend them I wish I would of started coming in sooner that's how great they are. I also got a Strawberry lemonade which was pretty good as well. It was filling tasted fresh. The Jalapeno chips had a kick but if you took a bite of your sandwich it wasn't as hot anymore. The carrot cake was huge can easily feed 2 we shared it 3 ways we were all happy. The lemon square was a little tangy definitely a adult treat. The yogurt parfait I'll write an update later will have it for breakfast tomorrow. But in a nutshell I highly recommend them ?????????? I really enjoyed lunch & the sandwiches are huge well if I'm being honest everything was big portions. ?Kid-friendliness: Omg never have I ever been to a restaurant that was so nice to my daughter. I had placed my ordered before I went to pick her up I came back with her my order still wasn't ready she asked for a cookie of course I bought it for her, I told her to wait till we get home so she can wash her hands first. The lady over heard and let her wash her hands they washed there hands together actually. It really made my day parents understand when I say places aren't always friendly to our kids, but Blunch was amazing went above and beyond to accommodate us.“

“Kind of a long review, but it’s for 3-4 visits. So, a friend posted a photo of her Italian sub on Instagram, and it looked incredible! I had to try it. Picked up my first Italian sub on 2/10 after ordering online. The young guy at the counter was very nice and handed me my sub. Later, I realized that he had probably made it as well. Drove home and then ate the best Italian sub of my life. I don’t know if they make their own roasted peppers, but they are *chef’s kiss.* Anyway, I got the sub with lettuce, hots, olives, and roasted peppers—they were super generous with the goodies, and at the end I was dipping the last of the bread in the briny, vinegary goodness left on my plate. I couldn’t wait to go back. The second time, 2/22, I went on a random weekday day off. I typically work M-F, but I took a Thursday off. I had a bunch of errands to do that needed to be done during work hours, and I went to the UPS location in Saugus so I could swing by Sons of Sicily and get another sub. Their online ordering was not allowing me to add anything extra to the sub, so I decided to just go in and order it there. (As of yesterday, you still can’t order online and get the option menu of all of the items you can add on) Someone different was on the counter. She seemed to be busy, but she was very nice. I ordered the same exact sub I got last time, and I waited at a table near the back. (I think the “mama” they mention on Instagram was there, as the sweetest lady stopped at my table to make sure I didn’t need anything) The woman at the counter called me over to ask if I wanted any other condiments like vinegar or oil. I think I said oil would be fine since I was planning on putting some oil on it when I got home. She wrapped up the sub, and I drove home to Malden. When I got home, I unwrapped the sub and realized it might not be as good as the first one. It seemed to have much less of the add ons that made the other sub so perfect. I took a bite. It definitely had less, and actually none of the hots that I had ordered. I live far enough away that I really didn’t want to drive back to get my sub fixed, so I ate half of it because I was really hungry, but I had a moment of sadness every time I took a bite. I ended up going to the grocery store to get a jar of hots, roasted peppers, and I found some mixed olives with seasoning on the antipasto bar. The hots I bought was great, but the olives and roasted peppers were subpar to the ones Sons of Sicily puts on their sandwiches.I called Sons of Sicily to let them know about the omission, and to see if I could get a small discount on the next sub I got there. I spoke to the owner who was very nice and said he would take care of my next sub, which was more than I was hoping for, and I was impressed by the customer service. My third sub, 2/24, was through UberEats for two reasons: I could order online through the Uber app with all of the available options, and I really didn’t want to drive to Saugus. I almost never order delivery because of how much more it costs, but that day it seemed worth it. The sub was not as good as the first one, but it was better than the second one by far.Okay, I’m onto my latest visit, 3/2, I called and ordered my sub (same one, same add ons throughout all of this), and I drove over to pick it up. I went in and super awkwardly told the guy at the counter (different one than my first visit) that the owner had said to come talk to him the next time I was in. The owner seemed to be enjoying eating lunch with friends or family, and I felt terrible about disturbing him. He made good on his promise of a free sub, and I tipped the guy at the counter and ran out the door. I got home, and it was finally equally as good as the first sub. I’m writing this and wishing they were open on Sundays because I would seriously drive over and get another one.I highly recommend this place, and I can’t wait to try some of their other items!“

Fair prices, great energy in the place, etc. We've been here many times, and would recommend this place to others who are looking to have a small gathering. My biggest complaint is that the table nearest the door (where we sat) was drafty when the door opened, and we had people waiting to be seated on either side of us because there was no standing room near the door. But the food and experience was otherwise so wonderful that we didn't feel that having people standing within 3 ft of us was all that terrible.“

Making my food exactly the way I like it, I've had other Subways that have left me wanting more. The only thing this Subway has left me wanting is one like this near my home! Excellent work to everyone who made this location as great as it is!!!“

“Stayed at an Airbnb around the corner for a week and found ourselves going here every day. Great coffee, fresh OJ and sandwiches that are out of this world. When I heard melted cheese on bacon my brain said that’s too much but I just kept going back! Also reasonable price and right sized portion for breakfast - would have been easy to overdo on both front.“

“Al's......THANK YOU!!!!!! I walked over today from my work, and I was hoping and praying the chicken salad recipe had not changed in the last 15 years. Al's chicken salad was my absolute favorite sub of all time, and I would always get it when I was working as a deckhand for Boston Harbor Cruises. I am SO thrilled to say, it is as delicious as I remembered!!! I love that they don't put celery/raw onions into the mix. It is perfect as it comes, and I had lettuce and tomato onto my roll. The bread is fresh, and the regular/small size is huge! Thank you to all of you for your consistency in flavor, ability to manage a crowd (although I fortunately got right in today, arriving on the earlier side), and your team's welcoming attitudes. Al's still is and always with be the GOAT!!“

Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap

“Teeny tiny shop with barely enough room for ten people standing. Counter only, no tables. We were immediately greeted upon entry and our order was taken in a couple minutes while he was finishing up five or so orders. Our order was taken and ready in about five minutes. Great selection of beverages and chips. We had the Chicken Caesar and Chicken Acapulco. Caesar was great- nice and tart dressing with fresh lettuce. The Acapulco was decent. It is a heated sandwich. The flavor was elusive. The menu is large with lots of options and ability to customize. We will return to try more. Highly recommend trying it.Vegetarian options: Many of their sandwiches allow for a choice of meat (or none). Good veggie options on the menu.Kid-friendliness: Very family friendly. Plenty of kid friendly options and ability to customize for picky eaters or allergies.Parking: Many businesses packed in a small busy area across from Boston College. Parking will be a challenge.Wheelchair accessibility: Challenging tight store front.“

“The Serranito sandwich is the best deli sandwich I’ve ever had. We were in Boston for 3 days with a full food itinerary, stopped in here on day one and had to come back a second time before we left. The sandwiches are big, easy to split between two people. Freshly sliced ham, incredible cheese, crispy toasted bread, garlic aioli…this is our favorite place we ate in Boston. A must eat!!!“

“Best steak & cheese in Boston period. They also have the best breakfast I love their there family owned and operated fasted friendly service. Excellent good you will have leftovers. I like that they have options for picky eaters (kids) well worth the money you spend an please tip them especially during the pandemic ? everything is always amazingly delicious ? only had a issue one time when they forgot to put my cheesy grits in the bag and gave me bean pie instead of bread pudding I called and they immediately made it right. I still wish they delivered because I would definitely eat there more often.Kid-friendliness: In my opinion yes. They don't put up with the rift raft that goes on in the area & I usually just ask them to make whatever my child wants if they have it they'll do it.Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs easy access“

When I picked up the food it was ready early and the customer service was standout. They even had an employee carry it all to my car for me. The food was fantastic! “Went to the Beyond King Tut Experience in Boston's South End. When we finished it was lunch-time and we planned to walk the 2 miles to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace for lunch. But it was over 90 degrees and my husband had a serious case of the "hangry's". Not being familiar with this area I looked up cheap eats and found The Bostonian Market And Cafe was only a 3-min walk from the venue. You'd miss it for sure walking by, it's on the corner of Harrison and Fay and looks like it might be a small convenience store. Went in, it's very small, not fancy, a few tables to sit at. Serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with an amazingly wide range of sandwiches, salads, burgers, dinner specials. The prices were amazing for Boston. We had a fabulous, fresh Greek salad with chicken, the French Quarter sandwich, fries and 2 drinks. Everything was fantastic, large portions and the total cost was $25.50 - thought they made a mistake and that was for one meal. But no, the total bill. The 2 gentlemen who did everything could not have been more welcoming or accommodating - and fast. And it was clearly the favorite of the neighborhood. Next time we are in Boston we will plan to eat here! We did do the 5-mile round trip walk to Faneuil Hall Marketplace for ice cream and back through the Boston Public Gardens so don't miss these. But if you are in South Boston or the the South End, this is the place to get a fantastic meal and not break the pocketbook.“

“SO HAPPY to find a place with amazing options for both vegans AND non-vegans! Both my boyfriend and I ordered “chicken” sandwiches. His was real chicken, and mine was plant-based, but BOTH were delicious! He ordered the poblano chicken sandwich and I got the kimchi chicken sandwich. The kimchi was amazing. The fries were also amazing! Perfect crispiness. (we would not recommend the chipotle vegan sauce … weird texture).“
