Pupuseria Maria 2 906 Chillum Rd, Chillum Honduran
906 Chillum Rd, Chillum

“This is where we need to go! Small business owners who make genuine food from the heart. I had the opportunity to meet the wonderful owner Ruby. She was a gem. And she has a gem that she serves to the community. I appreciated that she gave me a moment to speak while it was slow to share the history of where she came and where her and her team are going. This is a fairly new business, has not been open for more than a year. To everyone in the community far and wide. Whether you're black, Latino, native, blue, orange, or however you identify, it doesn't matter! Come and enjoy this soulful food. She was so welcoming and the warm welcome and how she explained the dishes to me, delivered an experience that I will never forget. I wish her and her team much success ??.Now, into the food -Pupusas (chicken and cheese) -10/10Coleslaw- 9/10 (It's new for me. But I like it. Need to try more.Plantains - 8/10 (Everyone likes plantains different. So I'm sure they'd be a 10/10 if I'd communicated that I like them fried hard.Yuka w/meat and coleslaw- 10/10! Wow! I have never had this dish before but the flavors. The seasoning to perfection.Overall - Maria's is more than pupusas. There's some history, there are always stories, and there is plethora of food. On the weekends, this spot is said to have over 400-600 patrons that come out to enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the service. This business also does catering.(I was not paid for this review. I walked in curiously after being served old food from the sub China shop across the street and had to throw the food away. And Maria's stood out like a bright light into a new dimension. And what wonderful things I got to see. And a beautiful person I got to meet.)”

“I wish they were outside on Uber eats DoorDash something because I live out here in Gaithersburg so I got to go all the way up to them but I’d rather go on a non-holiday then on a holiday because on a holiday it’s $40 more but the services is quick the shrimp needed more cooking time but the service is quick they are friendly the corn is $2 & sweet. Don’t expect the barrel because the craft come in a box with plastic and they are seasoned to perfection. The meal crabs usually run like $80. On a non-holiday day so. far I have been there twice. Forget the competition. They are the place to go. They season Krabs so well that your lips become numb to the sensation of the seasoning that’s probably just me, but OK! The shrimp isn’t seasoned but they gave me a brown bag of seasoning.”

“I found this restaurant during the COVID shutdown here in DC in 2020. I was leaving a grocery store when I saw it in the same shopping center. I've since started placing a to-go orders before I do my shopping on Saturday, and they have it ready when I'm done. We mainly eat sashimi, nigiri, and rolls and we have not yet been disappointed. I was a little worried the first time because prices were a little less than what I expected (weird right?), but the quality is equal to a much higher-priced sushi place.”

“I stumbled upon Tail Up Goat while wandering the streets, and what a delightful discovery it turned out to be. Walking in for dinner at the bar, I was immediately impressed by the flawless service. The staff struck a perfect balance between professional hospitality and genuine human connection, making my dining experience truly enjoyable.Unlike some other restaurants where servers bombard you with uppity culinary jargon and $2 words they learned in a staff meeting, Tail Up Goat provided a refreshingly authentic experience. The food overall was excellent, with only one minor hiccup. The pork tenderloin, while flavorful, was a tad dry, possibly sliced too soon. However, even my "least favorite" dish was still enjoyable.Unfortunately, my experience was slightly marred by a small issue. I was offered a glass of bubbles, which I assumed was complimentary but was later charged for. It left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, figuratively speaking, but thankfully didn't completely sour my overall experience. It's entirely possible it was just a misunderstanding on my part that I should have clarified.Despite this minor blip, I would still highly recommend Tail Up Goat for its warm atmosphere, impeccable service, and delicious food. It's definitely worth a visit.”

“Very friendly staff. Early happy hour which is a big plus. I got the fried chicken sandwich with fries and it was quite good. The chicken was tender and fried perfectly. The hot cherry pepper sauce and slaw went great on top. The fries were seasoned with a dusting of old bay, I assume. I got the Hawaiian Punch which is essentially a mocktail and it was SO good. Not too sweet. Finished it off with the apple pie which is, as you may guess, unconventional as it kind of looked like a cinnamon bun and was caramelized very well. I would recommend eating here. It is a laid back atmosphere. Jeans and a t-shirt are appropriate as well as business attire.”

He was attentive, descriptive and helped create a good experience. Dan, our bartender, was magnificent. He created delectable cocktails and we also chatted along the way (we had bar seats which I highly recommend). This was very reasonably priced, we left very filled and happy. My son has a love for Indian food ever since his trip to India. I have never tried Indian food ever. So this was my very first experience. From the moment we walked in the door our amazing experience began. The atmosphere is beautiful and so is the staff. Our server, April was super helpful and very knowledgeable. She has an amazing spirit and is wonderful with her job! The food... was very fresh, aromatic and DELICIOUS!! My son said the food was the closest to the food in India that he has had here in the states. For my first time... OMG!!! I am HOOKED! The only bad part is that I have to go back to Florida and wait impatiently for my next visit.”
