It was a complete awesome experience to eat on a water boat. Your bread was the best. The waiter was friendly, made my kids laugh by making her neck go one side
it's has very nice atmosphere, great, friendly service and the food was delicious.
What a wonderful experience! My sister and I decided to dine here because two locals - at different times - recommended it. We are so happy we did. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience. We chose to sit outside (no wait for two people). Our server was busy but efficient and kind. My sister ordered a pasta which she thoroughly enjoyed. The portion size was large. She packed half of her meal. I ordered the twin Maine lobsters. The meal was very filling. I’d only ordered lobster tails in the past so I wasn’t sure how to eat the whole lobsters. Our server told an employee “Chris” and he actually came to our table and gave me an amazing tutorial. We didn’t have room for dessert, but it looked delicious on our neighbors’ table. Definitely worth a visit if you like beautiful scenery, great service and delicious food!
When we arrived, we were told there would be a one hour wait. The wait did not disappoint. The lobster roll with aioli was delicious. We left wishing we had chosen this place for dinner instead of lunch. We will be back!
My wife and I visited DiMillos for dinner last evening: a return engagement for me but a first for her. She's very happy she listened to my recommendation! We started with the mussels. My wife was extremely hesitant due to the presence of the Raye's sweet and spicy mustard in the broth. I assured her she would enjoy them, and she acquiesced. Reluctantly. And then she wondered why she hesitated at all, cuz the mussels were outstanding. For dinner, my wife had the pecan encrusted haddock and I had the lobster mac and cheese. Again, she hesitated because the recipe for the haddock included a maple cream sauce (in truth, we both thought it a little odd). My wife asked the waitress, who said it was a very popular dish and gave it a strong recommendation. And once again my wife was rewarded for heeding someone else's opinion, because the dish was VERY tasty - just the right amount of sweet maple! My lobster mac'n'cheese was excellent, with more lobster than I expected. We were both quite full when we finished our entrees, so we passed on dessert. Admittedly, DiMillo's is a bit pricy, but it's not just the food you're paying for - it's the food and the overall ambience. I find the experience and the view to be worth a little extra!! My only constructive criticism: serve some toast or garlic bread with the mussels... and provide a large spoon or soup spoon... cuz folks wanna stop up that broth!!
The food here was good and the outdoor seating was nice but the seating protocol needs overhauled. We were told we had to wait for first available seating and the wait was 45 minutes. They would text when our table was ready. So we walked around and got a text 9 minutes later. So we walk back and they tried to seat us at a table inside, right by the door, so lots of people walking by as you’re trying to eat. We declined that table and said we would wait for an outside table to open up. There were several tables open outside at that time and they weren’t seated for a while. So we went back outside to wait- we weren’t allowed to get a drink and wait at the bar. As we waited, we heard several other parties have the same problems with seating. Once we were seated outside, we watched as several tables remained open for a while. Overall, they could have better customer service by turning tables over quickly and allowing people to choose if they want to wait for a table inside, outside or first available. Our server was great!
Wonderful food. Nice staff. Clean bathroom. All around great place.
The food was good but expensive for what we got. The wait to place our order after waiting 45 minutes to be seated, and then get our food was over an hour. The server was detached, not attentive and not apologetic about the wait. The restaurant was not that busy at 2pm on a wed. I would not return there in the future and would tell others the same. The quality of the food dose not justify the amount of time wasted while waiting and the treatment by the server. Paying top dollar for lunch demands top service by the staff.
The restaurant is on a former boat located in the harbor. Had a little wait but was definitely worth it! We had the Lazy Lobster and the Lobster Roll. Food and atmosphere were great. Highly recommend!
It's located on a large boat in the harbor. The restaurant is huge with indoor and outdoor dining. It was packed for lunch mid-week. We sat at the bar otherwise we would have had to wait a long time. If you really want visit, make a reservation. The food was good, local seafood done in typical New England style, chowder, steamed clams, lobster, etc. The portions are huge. Oh and you exit through the gift shop like any attraction.
How I this Texas man ended up here on the docks of Portland Maine? One of my Bucket list item to sit on the docks of Maine and have real Maine lobster so I jumped into my Texas truck and drive up the East Coast to my first stop New Hampshire then over to Maine. Got a referral from back home in Houston to visit DiMillo’s for the best experience. Didn’t disappoint! You have to request the outside seating. Worth the wait! Chill atmosphere listening to the seagulls sipping an nice cold drink. Told my server my purpose and she suggested going with the double Maine lobsters to get the best of both…including one stuffed! Man!!!! It was all that! Ate like a king ? mission accomplished! On to my next adventure fat full and forever happy!
Lobster Mac and Cheese! ? Sat outside on the upper deck to the gorgeous view of the bay. Atmosphere is friendly, with a cool history as you explore the ferry turned restaurant and best of all food is fresh. We tried the lobster roll but the star of the show was the lobster Mac and cheese.
Great atmosphere, comfortable for any age group, fantastic views, very good food and very friendly staff! Have never had a bad meal ?
We were fortunate enough to eat here on a bus trip. Looked a little rough on the outside as it used to be a car ferry but once you step inside, beautiful! We were treated to a three course meal. It started off with the best clam chowder I have ever had! I had the Haddock as my entree and it was delicious. Followed by bread pudding for dessert. Couldn’t have been a better meal. The staff was super friendly and took excellent care of us. Very hard working! I could not recommend this restaurant enough!
The food was fantastic. The service (Bobby) was impeccable. The only complaint is the wait on a Monday night was over an hour. But needless to say, worth the wait.
